I've tried setting it up with java and it isn't working

It really sounds like java isn't quite correctly installed for you.

I recommend completely removing Java through the control panel and then reinstalling fresh from the download in that case.

That has fixed many Java errors for me in the past

It might be my computer issues I'm having stopping it aswell.
