Imagine a class that consisted of being able to manipulate bread. Yeah, a bread mage. How awesome would that be? Just imagine pelting your enemies with loaves of bread or summoning a huge slice of bread to break your fall. Bread mages will rule the world someday; I can sense it.
I prefer the variant Pastamancer! 
That's an interesting concept! Not only is it useful as you described, you can also never stave as you'll always have bread to eat. Also, what if they carried around butter or jelly all the time, just in case the taste of regular bread got old?
