As always, Unicode depends on the viewer instead of the platform. Someone who isn't using Windows 64 (who do exist, smaller as that population may be getting) cannot see Unicode.
i suppose the better question would be:
what unicode inputs, if any, will come out as expected on here? it doesn't always work on different platforms even on machines that are perfectly capable of rendering the unicode.

Nicolette's answer actually did cover that. Just like with fonts, there is no Unicode that will always come out as expected on the site (or any site for that matter). Your best bet is to try and avoid Unicode as much as possible. Mobile users are one of those groups who will often have issues with it and it can't be used reliably. Fonts have the advantage that they revert to a 'onboard standard backup' if none of the previously listed fonts are found. Unicode doesn't have this and just goes "Oh dear, let's just throw in a weird empty square and show nothing at all".
I see people use it all the time, so it must. I've made no effort to filter or hijack Unicode display on our side.
