What business does a magician have with criminals though? Unless you're in a bank or something in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don't think criminals would rob a magician.

She should be a criminal, so floatch can be all of the cops.
She could be the handler (the one on the headsets) for the criminals when they do their jobs. Like the one who warns them when people dial 911 or when cops are in the area. Tapping into police wires, stuff like that.
The reason I advise that is because I don't think the police will let a 17 year old be a cop.
