Sinde (played by Banshee)

Surrounded by rich forests and mountains, a still, small mass of water was located right next to a cliff. It had probably been a lake at one point, but with the low tide it had recently shrunk until only the deeper parts, right at the rock wall, remained. The river connecting the lake to the sea had also dried out. The water was clear, but no fish was in sight, for they had all been eaten.

Really, the pond that remained was too small for a water-dwelling creature like Sinde. He could hide under the water, but he would still be visible, so what was the point of even trying? With his back pressed to the stone wall, hidden by the shadow of the cliff, he popped his head up, so that only his eyes and slick brown hair could be seen. He had seen fishermen come and go in these parts, as would weary travelers looking for a place to rest, so someone was bound to eventually show up.

Having been perfectly still for a couple of minutes he eventually disappeared under the surface again. He'd see if there was any fish left, some oysters or crab, anything to eat. He probably wouldn't starve to death, but he was certainly hungry, and utterly bored. There was nothing to hunt or explore anymore in this little puddle.

After making some hefty coin from a nearby village, the white haired purple eyed adventurer Voncolonel, whistle happy as he traveled through the forest. For him everything was going well, no bandits attacking his cargo and making a lot of coin on his trading run. Today definitely was a good day that only comes around once in a blue moon.

As he exits the forest he walks upon the beauty of a small lake. "Wow, what a nice place" he states as he stops whistling and looks at the marvel of lake. "I think I'll rest up her for the night" he says to himself even though he could have stayed back at the village, but he didn't exactly feel like spending money for a room at the tavern. So he went ahead and walks the waterline of the lake, finding a spot to rest. After a couple of minutes he soon find his spot, a small clearing surrounded by a mix of tall sawgrass and cattails. The grass was lush green and soft, the tall cattails and sawgrass gave some kind of privacy from lurking eyes from individuals from the land, but the secluded location gave out an excellent view of the small lake.

With or without privacy, it didn't really matter and so as Von was whistling his tone he slowly stripped off his armor until he was wearing just his white undies as he shakes his hips as he continue to whistle and dance around his pile of clothes. Soon after doing his little jig he sat down next his attire and stared towards the lake and gave a large sigh in relief as he took in the beauty and quietness of the lake, which was soon interrupted by his stomach growling. He put his hand on his stomach and said "Damn I wish I brought a fishing rod...I have all sorts of things but not a fishing rod" as he raised his knee and put his head on it, as he made a depressing look knowing he's going to have to get up and go look for food like berries or some other things.

Leisurely lounging about in the water for a while he caught a smaller fish, but it was the biggest that remained after his sporadic hunts during the past twentyfour hours. He was about to bite the head off before eating it, but that's when he saw something above in the corner of his eye. The water heavily distorted the image, but he could tell it was a human. His heart skipped a beat, and if he didn't have a fish in his mouth he would have smiled.

He slowly popped his head back up over the surface again, a curious look in his eyes. The fish, still in his mouth head first, wriggled about in a desperate attempt to escape Sinde's sharp teeth. The human appeared to have brought a lot of things with him, and Sinde having a thing for trinkets and things from land it certainly caught his interest. He understood the basic concept of money, but knowing he didn't have any he was going to propose some trading instead.

He let the little fish go, a small splash could be heard as th water swallowed the panicked animal. Sinde then approached slowly, his eyes fixed on both his appearance and the strange dance the human was doing. He hauled himself up onto a protruding rock. He wrapped a few of his red tentacles around it so he wouldn't slip off, and continued to watch for a short while. It was still beyond his comprehension how humans could walk on those skinny legs they had, it was truly fascinating.

"Sir?" he called out hesitantly. He would rather keep his distance until he knew if the human was hostile or not. He had gotten all kinds of reactions before when approaching humans. This was a bit of a gamble, because he really didn't have many places to flee if it came to that.

"Do you trade?" he asked reaching for his makeshift satchel. It was sown out of old burlap and leatherstraps, but looked sturdy. It appeared to be mostly empty, but he did have a few things in there that maybe could be of interest.

Von raised his head when he heard "Sir". He understood that the sawgrass and cattails gave out some privacy but if someone was walking around, they'll easily find him. But as Voncolonel stood up, he was surprised to hear that whoever was calling him was not on land but was coming from the water.

His eyes met with Sinde as they got wide in surprise. He didn't realize anyone was swimming in here, but as he squinted at him he see that there are a few tentacles around the rock. "He's not a merman but a squid man?" He thinks to himself as he approaches the water line as his feet start to get a bit muddy from the water.

His heart was raising, he didn't know who this individual is. His just a regular person or is he monster who lives here who wants him to come into the water and drown him? All these questions racing through his head almost overbearing.

He took a deep breath and decides to play along and see what this mysterious person is up to. Voncolonel gave a big smile and scratched the back of his head and "Yup I can do trading, I have all sorts of things, from an old pocket watch, a compass uh I also have" he says as he in his pile of clothes pulling out various pieces of junk from empty jars to herbs to bandages to very few jewelry. As he dig through everything he started shaking his hips as his butt was sticking straight up in the air, possibly accidently insulting the would be customer.

Sinde relaxed a little when it turned out the human had no hostile intent. And if he did he was certainly hiding it well. Either way Sinde chose to believe him for now, partly because he was in a pickle, but also because this man seemed to be in the trading business.

Sinde had something in his hand when he dropped down into the water again. He came closer, but stayed in the shallow water on the rocks since he felt really clumsy and awkward on land. He looked rather amused as he carefully watched the tradesman go through his belongings. He didn't take offense when he turned his back on him, but it looked kind of funny.

"This are good luck charms." Sinde said with broken English as he reached out his hand. He put it on a rock in front of him, then backed off a little, until the water reached his waist. There was a piece of string with three rather large, heavy pearls made of stone in varying colors, with little symbols engraved on them. They looked bland and weren't very eyecatching, but they gave off a faint heat which hinted at some kind of magic imbued. Whether they worked or not was up to each and everyone to discover though. Sinde could only give his word.

"I want that." he said gesturing with his hand at the compass, he had short, blunt claws instead of nails on his slender fingers. He had no idea what that thing was for or what it was called, but he liked it.

As Voncolonel went through his things, he turned around to see what mysterious person gave him. Even through the white haired adventurer wasn't one to know the value of jewelry very well, but the pearls were perhaps the biggest and beautiful pearls he's had ever seen.

Seeing his claw as he pointed towards the compass, it became clearer that this person is not human even through the top half of his body is human to some degree. Either way it also became clear that this person didn't seem to have any evil intentions. As picks up the compass he asks him as he starts to get into the "I guess you want the compass?" As the water was at his ankles he thought about the trade and said "Sure you can have the compass and I'll take the pearls" as he approaches the pearls on the rock by this time the water was up to his thighs.

He took the pearls and in its place he put down the compass as it remained pointing north. With pearls in hand he backed off a little bit, but not out of the water as he carefully examine the pearls and feel the last magical power come from them even though being very faint to feel. "These are beautiful, thank you" he says as he gives him another big smile at him.

He took the compass and turned it several times only to see the arrow spin around and around. He was so easily amused and always keen to learn. He turned it to look at the back, knocked it against the rock and even tried to pry it open with his claws for a moment, but then decided against it. He didn't want to break it.

"Thank you." he said putting his new trinket in his bag. Then he looked up at the other, a faint smile on his face as he curled his tentacles around the rocks. This human was nice. Not all of them were, he knew that from experience. "What is your name, two-legs?" With this question he pulled his clawed fingers through his hair. He'd love it if the human stayed until the high tides came back, or if he helped him over to the sea. The dried out river was longer than that, but straight over it had to be less than two hundred feet. It was no distance at all, but if you didn't have legs to walk on it would be quite the far hike.

Von looks at him as he fiddles around with the compass, which made him giggle a little seeing it may have been his first time seeing a compass. "Those things are sturdy" he says as he looks at him with smile.

"My name? Well my is Voncolonel, I'm more of an adventurer than a trader" he says as he scratches his back. "I'm guessing you have a name as well, hmm? Can you tell me please?" He asks as he puts the pearls on his wrist as he waits for squid man's reply. The thing that was going through his mind was where did this guy come from and why he's at a small lake? Von knew the squid man may disclosed that info when the time is right maybe.

"Sinde." he answered when the question was returned. His kind didn't really use names, but Sinde having a thing for humans he had taken one for himself anyway. He wanted to be like them, to a certain degree at least. He was actually jealous of a lot of human privileges. Legs, for one.

"I'm... I'm stuck with the low tide." he admitted reluctantly, as if though not really wanting to ask for help. Surely Von had hos own problems, and Sinde didn't want to be a bother. But not so much anymore, now that they had introduced themselves, and even done some trading. "Can you help?"

Von went ahead and sat on the rock where the trade was made and crossed his legs and arms. "Sinde? What a nice name" he says glade that Sinde didn't make fun of his own name, but of course Sinde is a squid man so one would guess that a name Voncolonel was quiet normal to him. Soon Von made a bit of a frown hearing that he was stuck in the lake with no way to get out. Von tilted his head down in thought.

Soon he poped his head up with a big childish grin on his face and said "Of course I can help you! I'm guessing you are from the ocean and its a little bit away, hmmm" he soon got up and returned to shore and looked at Sinde and said "I'll be right back and we can go ahead and take you home" and dashes out of the sawgrasses and cattails still in his white undies leaving behind his clothes on the ground as he went to look for his cart he hid nearby for trading.
