Hi there! Welcome to RPR!
I totally understand about being shy, haha. :'D Though, I can assure you that this place is super chill and the people here are all very friendly for the most part.
As for characters, I'm sure that people have already linked stuff or talked about it, however, I'm sure that you'll also find people that are more than happy to do character building with you if you find yourself interested. C: This is a place of creators and writers, after all~
Best of luck, and here's to many great RPs ahead of you. ^ o ^

Heya! Welcome to RPR!
It's nice to meet you!
It's nice to meet you!
Though this post was made quite some time ago, I feel it important to state that you are actually a perfect candidate for role playing with.
Anyone who doesn't see the potential in someone who makes bare-bones characters doesn't understand character development (in my opinion). I never make a character with a lot of development. I let them evolve through role play! And that, in my opinion, is the best way to make a character! Let the character figure out it's own motives, personality, and perspectives. You are not the character, just the extension through which it shows itself to the world. Let that character take charge, and you'll find that you have a lot of things to respond with!
