Hey guys! I have some really rough news. Our 2yr old kitty is missing! We think he accidentally jumped off the deck, which he's done before.
We went out and called for him last night, and we heard a lot of meowing when we called for him, but a neighbors light went on and the meowing stopped. We still have the live trap that we used to get him back last time, but I wanted to ask the community for some help.
1; he's an indoor cat, but we have a deck suspended from the upper floor. Our cats get to enjoy sunshine from the deck. If he keeps having this problem of falling off though (we think he's trying to catch birds), what should we do to keep this from happening again?
2; right now we have a live-trap that we put out near some bushes in the back yard at night, with wet cat food in it and covering the cage with a blanket from our house. Any other tips on how we might get him home again?
Our kitty, Loki, is a crucial part of our family. He's the most loving little guy ever and we want him back soon safe and sound. Last time it took five days, I don't want it to take that long this time! Any tips, advice or prayers are appreciated!

Oof, that's rough. I hope he finds his way home to you soon!
Regarding keeping him from jumping/falling off the deck again - I'm not sure how your deck's railings are configured, but however he's getting through, you could always try to block it off with something like mesh or (the more expensive but less view-destroying option) plexiglass. This works best if he's getting out between slats or crawling underneath rails. If he's jumping on top and then getting down that way, that obviously won't do!
The other option I can think of (other than not letting him on the deck) is to keep him collared/harnessed and on a lead/leash when he's out on the deck. This would require making sure that whatever rope he's tied to has its furthest point back at least a foot from all the railings/edges, so he can't accidentally squirm through and get himself caught. Also, if you're in the habit of keeping the door open, you'd need to make sure the moment he comes outside, he goes on the lead. If the cats come and go as they please, that's harder to do, unfortunately.

You should go check any nearby shelters in case he got picked up.
WE GOT HIM!!!
Loki is back home safe and sound, we caught him in the live-trap tonight
We decided that we are not letting him out on the deck anymore, but we do have two other cats however. Do you guys have any advice on how to keep Loki inside while still letting the other cats out on the deck as they wish. They're older and they just like to lounge in the sun, but he chases the birds.

Omg congrats Celestina!
Ummm...do you have cages or large containers with air holes? You can put food, water, and litter in there so they can get sun and relax.

Woohoo!
If it happens again, and he gets out, put out his litter box. They can easily find their way back home when they can smell their litter box.
Are the older cats microchipped? I saw a pet door a long time ago that only opened for registered microchipped animals to use to go in/out as they please. I can't remember how much it was, or if it's still in production, but maybe look into it?
