Okay lets face it, I think we all have a good idea on what I mean by "That Guy". Basically I am talking about that one person who have encountered that ruined your fun with the role play by basically being a obnoxious idiot, godmodding, one word actions, the infamous *kills* action, etc.,etc. Anyways I want to hear from you all about your stories of "That Guy". Don't matter what site or wherever you was role playing.
He is my story of the one person that has truly earned the title of "That Guy". So maybe a little over a year ago if I remember right I was role playing in this Post Apocalyptic role play as a merchant with a store front. Although I don't remember the details of what lead up to this eventually someone deicided to try and kill my character by shooting him at his storefront. So naturally as a lot of us don't really enjoy having our precious characters killed off, I decided to try to dodge and avoid getting killed. As it turns out some player called out godmodding because I was apparently to close to attempt dodging( I didn't realize it at the time but we all make mistakes) I don't remember if it was the guy that shot me or what but this guy started well to keep it PG, well lets just say he god rather nasty real quick for literally no reason started being obnoxious and toxic for the reminder of the time until he left and he rather enjoying to call me a failed abortion, not sure how that became a appropriate insult at the time.
With that said what about you guys, do you have any experiences with "That Guy" and mind sharing the tale? I think this be interesting to hear about each other's "That Guy".
~Cheers!

What a delightful sounding human being. I can't say I've ever encountered anyone quite so...colorful with their complaints, but I've met people who get irate when the story doesn't pan out exactly as they planned.
I think a lot of people forget that you can't "win" a roleplay. You tell a story, collaboratively.

I met one in a group rp because the other player said something innocorrect, then there's me in the corner just wanting them to stop whining and continue the wonderful thing but...they just stopped without asking. Great job at being mature guys..great job.
Ng. "That Guy," plus his girlfriend and younger brother. They (led by "That Guy") took over the game, completely derailed it via godmodding, some of the worst "romance" I've ever seen, random apocalyptic... mess, blatantly ignoring anything other players established to keep throwing in more and more chaotic nonsense for the sake of mindless action... Oh, and ignored that a couple of other players were falling behind all the rapid-posting.
It was a game that I had started, and I attempted to get things under control, but ultimately abandoned it and asked the player of the character that mine had developed a relationship with to go ahead and kill mine off (so I didn't have to bother participating any more). "That Guy" promptly decided he'd do it instead, with more crappy romance and immensely overused (and just plain nonsensical under the circumstances) dramatic imagery.
Seriously, this was my early days that I'm embarrassed of, and even then I recognized it all for the complete tripe it was.
*shudders*
I'd be interested to know if anyone has any sound methods of dealing with "That Guy" short of just abandoning whatever s/he shows up in.

A good many years ago I had a guy take a liking to a character of mine... They decided that they were going to sedate her with some sort of strange potion and, well... For the sake of forum rating and such, I won't elaborate. I'm sure most of you could determine the rest of that. They actually broke character when I tried posting my character avoiding such things, and got yelled at for not letting it happen. People find the strangest things okay to do all because of online anonymity, it truly baffles me...
Honestly, most people I've RP'd with over the years will call out a god moding post as they see it- warn the person to revise their post or ban them flat out- zero tolerance style. Otherwise the person is usually ignored as though they never posted if they continue, or literally put on ignore. Me personally? I would call it out, be it in group RP or otherwise. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt in most situations, but if they're being blatantly rude and disrespectful I'm quick to shut it down. Best way to do it imo is to simply explain to them that it's wrong and unacceptable. If they don't like it, well. They'll just have to be on their way.

Oh boy...
So this story didn't happen not so long ago, and not in an RP. This was in real life. But, I do remember this one story.
So, one average day during my time in a summer camp, a group of friends and I were just hanging around and goofing off making silly games. Now, I remember that there this kid, 14-years-old, and really liked certain fandoms. And by liked, I mean that he shoves his fandoms in your face 24/7. Anyways, he walks up to us and says that he role-plays as his OC. He plays as a half-werewolf, half-vampire, and half-shark; in that exact wording.
But that was nothing compared to what he does/did.
This character...
At this point, I died inside and ignored literally every other detailed. He probably mentioned something about Undertale, but I really didn't care.
It was that bad.

This character...
- Dated Hermione and Luna from the Harry Potter series and they're his exes.
- Can only be killed by a silver cross.
- Befriended BOTH the Avengers and the Justice League. All of them.
- Befriended ALL the animatronics from all the FNAF games.
- Has a Lugia as his spirit Pokemon.
- Defeated and banished BILL CIPHER from his mind.
At this point, I died inside and ignored literally every other detailed. He probably mentioned something about Undertale, but I really didn't care.

So it was one of THOSE GUYS. Good lord bro, those kinda people a worse then "That Guy". But I think you met one of the worst kinds. I never heard of character with a bio THAT bad. Granted I did once come across someone with math skill like his...( This guy was in these exact words, Half demon, half GOD, and I think half human....what?) but the guyi came across didn't have such a stupid bio, he just sucked at rping. I hope that child recives some role play guidance before he gets called out. Jeeze bro, that was just painful to read
Ah, "that guy." I had the unfortunate luck to run into one of those and befriend them for a few years. Needless to say, I'm not friends with them anymore because their roleplay style and overall attitude never changed.
I remember one time where I was roleplaying with them in a voice chat. I controlled not only my own character, but ALL of the NPCs that were needed for the RP. They just controlled one character and didn't bother to offer to split the huge load of characters I had going on... unless they felt like taking over one of mine to make sure they say something they wanted to hear.
The roleplay was always focused on them, they found a way to disrupt any sort of story that was about to form by having their character come in and cause strife by "kicking everyone's butt while being amazing," and someone (usually two or more) always had to have a thing for them or they'd ditch the RP because they felt ignored and we'd have to start a new one. They also kept blending OOC into IC way too much because their characters 'were part of their personality.' (Needless to say, this was one of the many causes of drama llama syndrome they always brought with them.)
And let's not get into their main character: one who is apparently a former demon who lost their memories and turned back into a human who then became a dark elf (who apparently was ruler of a whole demon world at one point) that was teleported to a strange world by their "cunning" brother to hide from people who wanted to kill them. Did I mention they had the "gift" of attracting all of the men they desire, even those who may have no interest in them otherwise?
I kinda learned to keep my own characters balanced and develop my own form of roleplaying from dealing with them as a sort of "what not to do."

Hah, well, I'm not sure if this counts but
Let's just say I've met maaaany of these on the duration of my life, but one was completely out of the bunch
Basically all they did was post stupid obnoxious posts, complaining and being pissed off at us others having fun
At first they were like:
"HELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
And after that:
"WHY WONT ANYONE NOTICE ME!!!????!!?!??!?"
Then a
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
out of nowhere
And then they kept on writing with the huge letters, telling us that we were all ******* stupid and that he'd get us banned
Worst thing? They Did get most of us either banned or to the point where we suffered warnings, all because we were having fun and RPing
Oh yeah, then there were those guys that had their entry posts be "Blows up the whole forest"
Yeah, needles to say we ignored them, and if they posted more than just that one time they were busy being pissed at us ignoring their godmodding and us telling them to tone it down

I haven't met anyone in an RP that's bugged me in a while, but I do often find people in OOC groups that are currently That kind of Guy. People who are extremely abrasive to others or judgmental about minor things in a roleplay are the ones that get to me most. RP is my hobby, and a therapeutic one, at that. If someone is rude and judgmental OOC, it makes me worry how they will treat IC behavior.
It gets really upsetting when they're the head of a group, too. I've seen a lot of great RP ideas wasted on unwelcoming mods.
And then there are the players that that get obsessed with bad ending everything. I was close friends with a fellow RPer who would flat out refuse to let an RP take a good turn, because it wasn't 'dramatic' enough. She also liked smut, a lot, and that was fine, if it weren't for the fact that it was mostly dubcon. And she even blamed it on me, in the end, and said I forced her to RP that way.
(Don't RP with emotional abusers, is what I'm saying.)

I've never met "that guy" before in my RP lifetime. Well, yet, because I still have a long ways to go.
I honestly can't believe people like that exist. I could almost compare them to children on CoD but even they are built on some sort of intellectual structure. They're like that to troll but "that guy" seems to genuinely believe that what they're doing is right and socially acceptable.
I am honestly baffled. Like, has RP really devolved into that? Cause last I checked, you were supposed to have fun while doing it. And "that guy" removes that option from the equation entirely.

But alas, the kid's character is still not great, because he said, and I quote, "that you guys [friends + me] don't have imagination."

Yep.
I've got a bad one. A rotten pick from the bunch of "that guy"s.
Long story short, it was in Plaza's golden age. Everyone was having fun. And then "that guy" decided to show up. "That Guy" was the person that ended Plaza's golden age.
He would jump into RP's without asking the host if he could do so, and then interrupt whatever story or moment that was going on by fighting and "killing" the person(s) characters. And he thought that by killing their characters, that their characters were litterally dead, and couldn't be used anymore. And the wosrt part is...
The idiots listened to him instead of doing something about it.
Not only that, but he worded his character's actions to the point that they were basically unreadable and couldn't be understood by the common person. And if you didn't word your actions the way he would, or you didn't put "realism" into your posts, he would count it as invalid, even though half the peoples characters in there were fantasy based, and normal logic and realism wouldn't apply to them anyways.
You couldn't reason with him either. He would even not care, or count your attempts for him to stop as cowardice or a form of invalidity.
"That Guy" drove 60% of all the friends I had made on there away, due to his godmodish actions and other such things. That's also the reason why I found this site.
And the worst part is, the same person who did that is actually on this very site as well.
Not giving any names, but just so you know. He seems rather inactive anyways.

And the worst part is, the same person who did that is actually on this very site as well.
Not giving any names, but just so you know. He seems rather inactive anyways.
Hey folks!
Interesting thread going on here. I just want to pop in with a super quick reminder. First off, no one has done anything wrong, I'm not here to make modfaces at people.
I just want to caution folks not to point fingers too directly at other players, as we like to maintain a friendly and inclusive community here. I would love to see some suggestions about ways people have, or could, peacefully resolve situations in which a "that guy" interrupts RP. As a mod of many different communities, I know that sometimes, you just gotta bring down that hammer of justice because people won't play ball. But a great many "that guy"s have responded well to a more educational approach in the past.

To what Ben says, there's really only one approach I've found that has ever worked (for me, personally, anyway.)
Cut them out.
Don't RP with them. Sure, tell the mods, if possible, (especially if they are breaking rules) but don't feel obligated to stay in a group if there's a person that makes you seriously uncomfortable. I know it's tempting to be the 'right' one in a situation, but it doesn't usually work out as well as just moving on. Usually, pushing the point will just make things worse.
Besides, in the specific case of Guys in RPR (Although out of all the sites I've been on, RPR seems pretty low on them. At least, as far as I can see), the site has blocking tools that work quite well, in my experience.

Noted, I agree with keeping the names hush hush on this thread. I don't want this thread to be the reason for any drama. Anyways since we had a moderator respond, Ben have you ever met "That Guy" before during a roleplay? Or have any of you other moderators have some stories worth sharing? Honestly these are some impressive stories. And I thought my story was bad...
