I have an admission to make. I was once That Guy.

I was bored. Hadn't had much response RP-wise in awhile. Gregor (my original pet bastard) was still a pretty new character, and the thing he'd been created for had died out before really taking off. This was all long before I came to RPR, back when I played on *cough*GaiaOnline*cough*.

There was one thread where I'd spent most of my time. There was pretty much always something going on, a near-constant stream of new posts that sometimes got too fast to read everything and sometimes fell quiet for several minutes (but rarely longer). It was full of old-guard players with hyper-powerful characters and lots of angst. Often, new and old players alike would eventually fall into one of the big "families" that, themselves, were pretty inter-connected. I had become a tolerated presence: no one special, but familiar enough and a generally pleasant chat OOC. The thread's OP was never around, and I'm not sure she ever even got on anymore. The thread got into trouble a couple times with the site staff/mods while I was there, and I think it almost got shut down once.

So one of those bored days, I took Gregor and decided to stir up some trouble. I intentionally didn't specify any of his gear, only listing it as it was "discovered" IC. This was partly because I didn't know what all to expect, and partly to try making a little bit of a puzzle out of it. Being what he is, he went in to blow the place up and kill as many "monsters" as possible in this "haven." Considering the usual chaos in the place, this didn't seem too out of place.

The reaction I got was mixed. Most ignored me entirely. A few yelled at me OOC. Even fewer responded IC, but they expressed their dislike of it OOC as well, especially when their awesome super powers didn't one-shot the measly human.

Mind you, I went in there with him two more times, always with the same goal. I can't remember if they finally killed him then (he was human, after all, just well prepared), or if I just decided to stop bothering.

I like to use a Steven Universe chatzy to rp in groups sometimes. Mines not as bad as some of the ones on here, But if anyone here Is familiar with Steven Universe OCs you'll regocngize this kinda guy INSTANTLY. First off, he was one of those "I'm the leader of the crystal gems now" guys. And that pissed me off. And then he starts using "pscoknasis" and I told him he SPELT it wrong and he just retorted to "look it up." So I shrugged it off. Then he used a main characters ability, Garnets future sight. And my god was friends and I triggered. So the premise of our RP was that my friend and I were going to buy an earth thing, but since blah blah plot and setting reasons we had a minimum grasp on earth bartering so we stole a wallet. THIRTY MINUTES LATER this guy barges into our RP because we stole a WALLET and he used his "future vision" to attempt find us and KILL our characters. Then he used ANOTHER characters ability, the controlling of water, when we weren't even close to a water source. Then he used the /choose option to poof both of us and said "shut up" every time we said he was too OP. (Poofing= a form of non permanent death. It's complicated to explain.) and then he threw a fit and we called him out on all the crap and he somehow twisted the blame onto me. So that was one of my most irritating experiences ever. And his excuse? " was bored and everyone was ignoring me for like an hour"

I don't know what Steven Universe is but that guy sounds like a pox.

it's a good show. But the fandom is... Not as good.

I normally dislike talking about these sorts of topic, but I can share some woes. Whilist they weren't on here. It was just from past experience.

I once met a person who wanted to roleplay. Cool? Anyway, it started out fine until the person got all weird and such. I ended up dropping the roleplay, because he didn't listen and would control my character. I asked him to stop and he'd throw a couple hissy fits. Then the stalking of me and some female Rpers happened. He'd creeply keep adding me as a friend and would talk about his sea food fetish. I ended up blocking him.

Back when I use to RP on Gaiaonline. I use to do some fun RPs. Until some girl and her boyfriend would hog the spot light of the RP. We had a posting order, but they'd god mod and ruin the RP. That or post one liners/words and flood the RP where it exceeded to twenty pages perday, not allowing anyone to catch up.

Tumblr wise?

I met a few weirdos and creeps. There was one that I witnessed treat his EX like shit and would god mod, auto and cry when called out. There was a point where someone called him out for god modding, he threatened to call the cops on the person. Mind you, this guy also pretends to be his father and best friend as well. HE accuses of people of god modding when he does it. He once called a few people illiterate when they weren't English.

Another one was back in 2014. A drama queen who claimed she Rped for an X amount of years and failed to listen to us when we gave her advise. Then used a disability as an excuse.

I feel so sorry for you lol. That stuff must have been traumatic . and that Seafood part made me chuckle.

The kid was weird. I thought he was trolling, but he just liked talking about seafood and Red Lobster.

That sounds eerily like someone I used to RP with back in 2012, then again sometime this year. They always had a chip on their shoulder about something and seemed to blame their bad RP etiquette on their family life, their "disabilities," and the people who were trying to set them straight, trying to make them out to be drama queens and evil people for a bit of sympathy.

Also, the seafood thing. What even is that. I am so sorry you had to go through that.

I remember this one so well because it started off as my first multi-player game online as the GM. It was like a cops 'n robbers game, and most of the characters couldn't stay outside for long. We were having fun, and everything was a-ok, until they came along. She was the first person who joined, and last to arrive on the scene. And immediately turned into a Dragon and destroyed the End-Game peeps.

So, that died, right?

Then she began virtually stalking me. On three different sites.

Two of which she shouldn't have known about, as I never mentioned them whatsoever, and couldn't even if I wanted to (The orig site didn't tolerate mention of sites not partnered with it).


So, that happened.

I've had a girl rp'ing with me once and her character was bi. I was cool with it, but mine was straight so obviously my character didn't respond to her flirting or advances. She tried to intimidate my character and when I didn't Rp being fearful, (my character was a she-devil, hers a vamp..) this girl brings an NPC into the Rp and basically rps a "romance" with the NPC while my character is just sitting there like "Uhhh...". So yeah. What was the point in even Rp'ing with me if she was gonna ignore my character when I didn't act like hers was the baddest, hottest thing around? X.x Needless to say I told her in OOC that I wasn't gonna continue the Rp since there was no story, just her romancing an NPC. *shrugs* Even sadder, she had an NPC before that telling my character that she should like the girl because of *insert random compliments*.

Oh! And I've had a TON of them just trying to be intimidating or acting like my character should worship the ground they walk on. It also kills me when they act like they can fight and then all you get are *hits u* posts. Lol OR they single handedly take out 50 NPCs controlled by them.

All these stories on this thread are pretty messed up but it gave me a good laugh cuz in the 14 ish years I've been Rp'ing I've seen/heard regarding "That Guy". xD

That reminded me of the one example I gave where the girl and her boyfriend would overrule a topic and then go on a killing spree.

On a later note. There was a person who had their own site, which fell flat on it's face afterwards. He was bossy and would go off on tangents if things never went his own way. He'd play favourite and allow people he liked five character slots and others just three. He'd censor swearing and force people to be on factions, even when they said no.

Other woefoe tales were just generic "Insert a person's name" personal gossip in RP chats, which pretty much is annoying in my opinion.

The closest examples I have to That Guy was a friend I knew IRL and someone on another site.

The friend was kind of obnoxious and once he found out me and some other friends came up with our own worlds and stories and such he started asking us to hsove his character into all of our stuff. But that's unrelated. I'd been n a few rp's with the guy, admittedly they weren't very serious. His character was a thief and an assassin and was surprised when people didn't trust him because of that. It also didn't help that he kept shoving that character into a romantic relationship with another of my characters that I didn't want my character in. One of my other friends who'd rp'd with him told me all kinds of crazy stories about the crap he had his character do. Apparently his character had tried to kill a child, the character tried o kill some of my friends other characters etc. Ultimately I cut off contact with the guy. To this day he's still contacting me via alt. accounts trying to get me to forgive him.

the other guy I thankfully didn't rp with, but from what I've seen the guy was a jerk and an egotist. Me and the same friend from the baove paragraph rp'd on that site alot and he came to both of us and told us to stop postign in our rp's so often cause he was tired of seeing our rp's on top of other rp's.

ut thankfully, outside of those two examples I haven't really encoutnered anything like some of the stff that's been told about in here.

Oh jeeze. Contacts you on various alts? I have met people like that. That or they go on alt accounts and say that they are a brother/sister/cousin/dog/pizza in order to make you forgive them or feel bad. Seen it happen on a blog type RP I was on back in 2012. Guy got banned for being disruptive and rude to all the members and staff and hitting on a 14 year old when he was 20. Then he came back and pretended to be his friend/brother and got in trouble as well.

It reminded me of that one person I mentioned about them stating they Rped for an X amount of years. They'd attack people who RPed canons and would tell them to RP OCs as in recolouring what character they were RPing as. Funny thing, they got their just desserts andwere exiled for harassing members.

Yeah those kind of guys are frustrating. I do think I manage to get him to piss off finally though.

But yeah I guess I'm kind of lucky though since I really haven't run into anyone worse.

I've come across a lot of RPers outside of the repository whose characters seem to share certain traits that point to being 'that guy,' including:

They're always some form of half occult creature -ie Half Demon, half Angel, half God, half Vampire, etc. Not to mention they always seem to have an unexplained and insatiable hatred of Humans. They're also nearly always hooded or are assassins. Not to mention their '-eyes glow red-' alot.

I won't go into certain characters being OP (Hell, pot meet kettle there), cuz OP characters can be pretty neat to play with if done properly, but some people buff their characters waaaaaay too much to the point that they may as well be able to throw planets at your face. It's not enough for them to be completely immortal, as in, they cannot die by any possible means, mundane or not but there's always some massive asspull; an 'ultra' attack that pretty much kills your character in one shot. ie, some celestial explosion or mega spirit bomb.

On top of that, it's even worse when RPing with more literate 'guys.' Those that go way beyond simply picking your character off with a measly little *kills.* No, these guys will write a descriptive sentence on how their coveted OC completely dominated your character with something you are unable to reply to.

Here's an example: 'Prometheus Hyperion Starcrusher grabbed Drek the Ogre by the throat before breaking his jaw and rendering him unconscious. He then plunged his enchanted longsword of darkness through Drek's heart, who begins to dribble blood from his mouth until dying a few seconds later.' Think that's a load of camel crap? Too bad. You'll be too busy bickering and calling eachother Godmodders until somebody decides to leave the RP, which will be most likely you. For the most part, I end up ragequiting before it gets to that point because I can't stand arguements

They must also always be the centre of attention, and completely refuse to share the proverbial spotlight with another character, mostly by picking them off with a good old fashioned -kills- or humiliating them by making them look weak. This is a pretty bad example but I was once told by an RPer I was playing with that "You cannot view my divine form." So I just thought 'sod it' and ignored him completely.

These points are simply what I find when I RP with a 'guy'. I've come across far too many to count, but mostly on group chats or IRC in which anyone can mess around on. I won't go into powerplaying or metagaming because that normally comes right off the bat when you're dealing with one of the 'guys.'

Like I said, these are traits I've seen off-site and tbh, I don't care if somebody's part demon, part angel and perhaps part marijuana plant, or if their character hates Humans. It's mostly just traits I've seen in RPers that try to act cool by playing these Godlike, edgy type characters who cannot be harmed in any way but are more than happy to put the characters of others players to the ground whilst kicking the dirt onto their faces.

It's even worse when they hold a grudge. Kind of like that lad I mentioned about being banned for misbehaviour. He still holds a salty chip on his shoulder from 2012. One would get over what happened four years ago.

Damn. Someone needs to grow up.

I use to be like that when I was way younger, but grew up and got over it. I learned from my own errors. I mean, I was 12 or 13 at my derp years, but someone holding a chip like that for four years at age 23 is kind of pointless. This was even him complaining that no one liked his OC/FC/Self Insert in roleplays.

I mean. I don't care if someone liked my characters. I just won't overreact and hunt them down with a mob.
