I am new here, and still relatively new to RP as a whole. Any advice offered in sincerity will be taken to heart and I will try my utmost to become a fluent and reputable RPer. This is making me nervous so I will cease here.

Thank you.

Welcome MechKasu! How exciting to have you with us. :D

We have a really neat guide for beginning roleplayers, which you can find here: New to Roleplay. There are a bunch of other articles it links to at the bottom which are useful as well. You're welcome to peek through our Help Database if you have any questions, but we'll just as happily help you out by answering them as well. :)

What made you decide to give roleplaying a whirl?

I am a writer of sorts, and I tried RPing once but ended up resigning due to too many people "god moding". I read the rules and determined that this site would be an agreeable field in which to expand my experience. However, morosely, I do not possess any estimate of where to begin. Any assistance you could provide me with would be most generously accepted.

Well, the best way to get started is by creating a character first that you can play in a setting of your preference. Then you can check out the Looking for RP forum, or use the RP Finder, to find a concept that matches with what you're looking for. If you're unsuccessful here, you can always create your own. :)

I have scrolled over the articles pertaining to character creation, yet I am still at a loss. How would one go about composing a character, exactly?

To answer your question, you do require a certain amount of creativity to create your character. Often times I find an rp that interests me and then base a character off the other characters that have been created and try to create someone that could moderately fit in with them. The character creation itself is easy, it's figuring out how they came to where they are today that makes it a little more tricky. If I have a profession in mind, I'll just make the character and choose random characteristics.
You don't necessarily have to join a forum or group rp, I would actually recommend 1-on-1 rp when you're first starting out. This allows you to correspond more freely with your partner and recieve feedback and have a faster adventure than waiting for a large group of people to respond. When looking for a PM RP as it is often refered to, you may have an idea for an rp, or your partner may have one that they would like to explore. If none of them have ideas, you can discuss different genres that you two may like, and from there create your storyline. You both like medieval fantasy rp? Make a knight in shining armor that is haunted by the demons from his past which makes him turn into a blood thirsty beast in the middle of the night. What about Scifi? Why not try a robot girl that escaped her oppressive master. The limit is only your imagination. :)
A tip I can offer you is to try not to play a villain or a jerk character, at least not when you're first starting out, as it can easily lead having to defend youself in unpleasant ways that may include godmodding or being over powered (OP) just to protect your life.

I'm not sure if all that helped or hindred you, making you more confused, but I would love to rp with you some time and help you get comfortable. Don't be afraid to pm me if you have morequestions, or want to run a character or idea by me. :)
Welcome to the site~
And no worries, if you want to learn you'll learn. Take your time and have fun~

Hey, welcome aboard.

As for advice, the primary thing I can give you is to just go with the flow. Don't worry too much about being creative, and you'll be creative. It's just how it works.
Heya! Welcome to RPR, I hope you have a really good time here and get lot's of RP requests.
