Kai Zarre crouched beside a tree, watching, waiting for his opportunity. A crossbow in one hand, loaded with a wooden bolt was his main weapon. A canteen filled with holy water was slung over one shoulder, and to complement his vampire-hunting ensemble he wore a cross necklace tucked into his hunter green shirt.

Movement stirred and he raised the crossbow. He would only have one chance before the vampire saw him coming, or heard him. He didn't bother with garlic because the vampire would smell him coming long before he actually got there. He sighted down the crossbow, ready to fire as soon as the vampire showed itself.

Emily walked slowly in the bushes. She had smelt the human and was trying to locate it. She could get an easy snack if he would appear better. She walked down and then turned into a snake. She slivered into the clearing and looked at the guy. She turned into a vampire and flew high in the tree. Her plan was to trick him and lure him into her trap and then bite.

Kai hadn't been expecting a snake and he nearly loosed his arrow anyway. Only a steady finger that came from practice and confidence prevented him from firing.

That is, until it turned into a vampire. He firedd on instinct, his arrow loosed with a "chak" as the vampire flew into the trees. He cursed as the bolt's path was cut short by branches.

"Stupid trees," he muttered, loading his crossbow before following after the vampire. He kept his crossbow pointed up, unsure if she planned to drop down on him from above.

Emily laughed and flew into another tree. Making tons of noises she made it sound like she was everywhere. She jumped from the tree and turned into a doe. She acted like a wild one and the trees still russled.

She then snorted making animals go wild as she looked at the guy with cross bow. It was her game and she almost always won. She stepped closer knowing they guy would think she was a wild doe

Kai swiveled to keep up with the rustling branches, before putting his back to a tree. One direction the vampire couldn't come from was directly behind him now. That left everything else open.

His crossbow still tilted up, he checked his surroundings. He didn't see the deer for all that he was looking for a human-shaped target. Never mind the fact that a deer not running from all the commotion should have tipped him off.

Emily looked at him and laughed " So a hunter " She said taking her human body and flying through the leaves making more noise. She was like a fast bird who was faster then an bullet. She smiled and flew right over his head. She touched her soft wing to his head and then flew into the trees

"I didn't come here to play," Kai shouted at the creature, ducking as it flew overhead. He would wait to fire the bolt when he was sure of a shot. A stray bolt now would mean death for him in seconds.

"You can run, but you'll never escape me."

Emily giggled and smiled " Will see " She swope down and pushed him to a tree before flying up. She flew back down and grabbed his crosebow and flew up. It burned in her hands and then she threw the remains.

He'd half expected a physical attack--but having his crossbow torn from his grasp reallyl put a damper on things.

"Shit!" he ducked and pulled a wooden stake from his boot. A dagger was hidden in his other boot, laced with poison. He sprinted for another tree, keeping one eye on the sky, ready to dive out of the way if she tried to swoop down on him again.

Emily laughed " You will be easy " She flew behind him throwing him to the ground on his stomach. She flew and pinned him down. Her claws went into his skin as she turned into a tiger and kept him down hard. She let her fangs come out

The stake flew from his hands, skittering a yard away. But that wasn't the worse part. Stuck on his stomach with claws and a weight he couldn't identfy pinning him to the ground, he knew the inevitable was coming.

"NO!" he screamed, fighting and scrambling for purchase on the ground. He didn't care about the pain or the blood that ran freely down his arms--he'd rather be dead than be turned into a vampire. "Don't turn me. Drain my blood, leave me a husk, but don't turn me. Don't turn me..."

Emily pushed harder on his arms and looked " sweety I won't fully kill you " she hesitated to lean down because something about this person was different. A couple vampire flew to watch her. She slowly bite his neck and drank some blood. It tasted sweet and she knew he was special. That he had something good about him. She made it look like he was completely bone dried dead and then the vanpires left. She looked at the guy and places a silver crystal near him " some day " she said before flying into the trees

Feeling the fangs sink into his flesh was the last thing he wanted and the last thing he felt before darkness closed in.

He was dead; he was sure of it. And then he woke up to extreme pain. The stake--the stake was still a few yards away. Salvation was still at hand. Slowly, stiffly, feeling dried blood on his neck, he reached for the stake.

"I will not be turned," he growled, pressing the stake to his chest. It would be easy, he thought, to simply fall forward on it. But self-preservation and another instinct rose up: an aversion to the stake in his hands. Fire lanced through his neck and with a howl he ripped the necklace free. A small scar of a loop around his neck would be visible along with the puncture marks of a vampire.

There was still the holy water. He uncapped it desperately and poured it on his hand intending to wipe the blood free. It dripped down his chest, leaving fiery tendrils behind. Scars that would last forever. Until someone staked him.

He wasn't dead. He couldn't be killed unless another hunter found him. He howled his anguish to the heavens above.

Emily watched him from the tree and tears arose from her eyes. She loved to play with humans but once she had gotten them to the ground she could not kill them. Especially this human. She flew down to him and pushed the weapons away. The holy water burned her a little but she did not care. She helped him sit up. She pressed her fingers to his lips " Quite. I have let you live and you must be careful for a little while " She said tilting her head to see the fang marks. A mist arose around his neck

Kai looked at her with eyes that burned; anger, loathing, disappointment. He couldn't face her and he turned away. "If you want to be merciful, kill me. Please. My livelihood is gone."

Where would he go? He wasn't feeling the urge to feed yet, but he knew it would come. A glint of silver caught his eye and he reached for the crystal. "What is this?"

Emily looked " A crystal. You can't let the other vampires see it. Its a queens crystal and i only give it to people who are worthy. " She said as she pointed to the crystal. " Keep it. It will help you see stuff "

"What kind of stuff?" Kai asked, looking at the crystal. "Who are you?" He held back the third question of why did you turn me.

Emily looked at the guy and said " I am Emily, queen shape shifter, vampire princess. It can let you see the future and other stuff. " She read his thought " i had to do it "

He looked up briefly confused before realizing what she meant. "You--you can read thoughts too?"

He ran his hand through his dark hair and sighed. Self-consciously he looked down at his hands and arms. He felt so...vulnerable in spite of the fact he'd already been turned. And he knew very little about vampire society. Did they even have a society or were they loners with a penchant for killing?

"Do all vampires have a queen or princess? Is there a king too?" If his question was resigned, it was only because he was trying to work out being a vampire.

Emily looked " Yes, they have kings, queens, princess, and princes. I am just a loner at the moment but i do belong to a kingdom. " She stroked some of his dark hair from his eyes. " but why would you care about princes, and princesses? " She liked him but was not sure if he liked her
