Kai's grin turned sour. "Yeah, I was a vampire hunter yesterday. Let's try to avoid any crucifixes and holy water--sound good to you?"

Emily looked at him " How was it? "

"How was what?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her. A stinging sensation traveled up his arm and he looked down to find a splinter of wood in his skin. He plucked it out and felt the sting subside.

Emily looked at him " Being a human for so long "

Kai sighed and looked down. He still hadn't truly come to grips with being a vampire yet. "I...I liked it. It was the only life I knew. Facing fear and death in one creature was an adrenaline rush unlike anything else..." he trailed off, his eyes alight with some inner strength. "It was like I had a purpose and I knew what it was, and I never felt any calling stronger than when I was slaying Day Walkers-"

"But I guess all that's over. All my friends in the Hunter Guild are no longer my friends. We're enemies now. And as much as I'd like to tell them, were we to meet again, that I wouldn't drink them dry--I'm not sure I have that much control over myself."

He looked at Emily and flushed. "Sorry. I don't usually talk so much."

Emily sighed standing up. " you are going to see your friends again " She turned into a cheetah and took off for the north

"Dammit, Emily, stop! You don't know what you're up against!" Kai raced after her and then stopped. He couldn't outrace a cheetah. He'd be lucky to keep up.

"Ralen isn't the type to back down--and he has a team of four. One on one you might stand a chance; four on one is no contest." Kai sighed. Two on four wasn't looking like much better odds either.

He trudged after her.

Emily hissed " I wouldn't get me pissed off right now! " She kept running and then she looked ta the village and stopped

"And that's really not gonna matter to the Hunters how mad you are. They're just gonna use that against you."

Kai let her go, lingering behind as he tried to identify the Hunters in the town. He already made out the Guild--that wasn't hard to find. "See that structure there that looks like a golden crucifex? That's the Hunter's guild. Don't go near there unless you want to die. Or you feel insanely lucky."

Emily looked at him and attacked like a cat. She walked next to him in a cat form " your friends? Where? "

(er, attacked like a cat? what?)

Kai scowled and drew his trenchcoat more firmly around him. "I don't see them and if we're lucky we won't. Trust me, they're trouble; always were, even when I was human."

Working their way north, Kai only grew ever tenser. He knew it was just a matter of time before they ran into them. And he dreaded their knowing what he had become.

Emily purred next to them. She had shape shifted into a cat to fit in with everybody.

A vampire hunter turned vampire with a cat. Yes, they were sure to blend in.

"Kai?" A voice from behind made him flinch and he glanced down at Emily. "Kai! You made it back--we were worried about you."

Kai hesitated and then turned to face...not Relan but a real friend. "Saiyan--I can't talk right now; I'm kind of in the middle of something."

Saiyan hesitated, looking at Kai. "Oh, well maybe I can help. What is it?"

"Just don't get in my way, please." Kai replied and in spite of his warning earlier, took off toward the Guild.

Emily purred and looked at the guy. Her eyes changed colors and she rubbed against Kai's leg

Kai nearly tripped over the cat. He picked her up, petting her head as he jogged for the Guild. "Alright so they think I'm a Hunter still. Now what, Emily?"

Emily looked around and she said " Bring me to the leader "

"The lea-? Are you nuts?" he hissed. "You might as well stake yourself! What do you plan to do?"

He glanced nervously around him, hoping no one had overheard.

Emily looked " talk to them i know how to act human "

"That's not the point!" Kai retorted. "They always check us for fang marks and toss us garlic, or holy water, or something that would reveal us to be vampires. It's not that easy--unless you don't mind me giving myself away..."

If looks could burn, Emily should have been blazing. But it was only a matter of time anyway before the Hunters found out... Finally, grudgingly, he added, "I'll do it if it's worth it to you."

Emily looked and hissed " all you have to do is tell me where they are and you can wait "
