EDIT: I decided to veer the direction of this post in a more constructive way instead of just being excited What do you think is the best app you've used? Please try to keep it focused on life-improving apps and not games or something.

Okay, this is such a genius app that I just HAD to share it with you all, a gaming/writing community!
The app is called 'Epicwin', it works on Android (I don't know if it works on iPhone too). It's basically a to-do list that you can also set timers to, but it's DONE SO EPICLY.
Why?
Because you're a character. I'm currently a warrior priestess. And each task is assigned a certain amount of 'epic points'. Each time you complete a task, you get these epic points and get xp. On one side, the XP gets you close to leveling up. On the other side, it also helps your character travel more miles, and the map you travel on has 'loot' at certain stages that you can achieve!
You can also assign each task a 'genre'. Is the task strength? Spirit? Intellect? Stamina? You pick which one the 'quest' as they are called, focuses on!
I just got it tonight and I've already fallen in love. I have so many various things I mean to get done but then when I get home from work I just forget! But now I have 'quests' for editing a certain number of pages each day, doing my devotions (with a timer to remind me!), and even brushing my teeth!
Out of all the people I know, I knew that YOU, RPR community, would enjoy this the most.

Sounds cool, can't wait to try it.
Wow that sounds great Celestina! I've just bought it and it looks awesome. Thank you so much for recommending it!
I've had a similar app for about a year - it's only for iPhone and it's called Rare Candy, but its purpose is a little different. There's this thing about mastering any skill - basically, to become really really good, you need to put in 10.000 hours of practice. Which is a lot. Rare Candy is something you can use to keep track of that by starting as a peasant character, then gaining coins by practicing and buying different equipment and character classes. In essence, whenever you're practicing you use the built-in timer and time yourself. I think it's a great app to start you practicing something. You can also add daily goals and get coins for completing them on a daily basis.
And then there's Duolingo, which is an app for iPhone and Android as well as something anyone can use from their regular web browser. It lets you learn your selection of very many languages for free by giving you 5-minute lessons for which you gain experience points, and gems once you complete a skill. You can use the gems to buy stuff and the app is very cute and fun to work with. You also level up as you go through the lessons and as you practice what you've learned. A very fun way to learn a language!

Oooh! Thanks for sharing Celest! I'm going to give it a try.

The app is awesome! There's this exercise that I have to do at least once a day, but it's much better if I do it three times. I've been doing it only once for the past month or so, but with EpicWin I can give myself 100 XP for the first repetition, 200 XP for the second and 300 XP for the third, which sort of makes me really want to go all the way to the third
I adore ideas like this! I tried this particular app and quickly found it wasn't for me. One female avatar and it's got giant boobs and a waist smaller than her own neck? I didn't like looking at my own avatar when I was trying to level "me" up. I tried the tree berzerker for awhile, but it jitters so much I was too distracted to read my info. =/
Still, I liked the idea so much I looked for similar apps, and now I'm on Habitica! It's very much the same basic concept, though they also allow you to be injured by your own bad habits (like eating junk food) in addition to the pretend quests it puts you on. They also have a concept called "dailies," which are things that doing daily will power you up, but skipping might injure you (flossing daily is an example). The pixel art style is also more in line with my own personal preferences. So that's an alternative for anyone who likes the idea but wants other options.

Kim: I didn't like the female avatar to the point that I went with the tree as well
Thank you for the info about Habitica I tried it out but I get really stressed out and demotivated by apps where skipping a task sometimes is a big deal. For anyone with a similar problem, I thought I'd point out the to-do list that's the most laid-back I've ever seen. It helped me get very many things done. Which in my case is nearly a miracle It's only available for iOS: http://balancedapp.com
Basically you enter what things you'd like to be doing and how often you'd like to be doing them. Your to-do list then gets automatically rearranged. There are no fixed dates for anything! The most important tasks are always at the top. And you can skip things very easily to send them to the bottom of your list again. The only instance where the app penalizes you in any way is when you forget about a task and fail to mark is as either done or skipped in a timely manner - and even then it's very gentle. Great for people who want to know what they should be doing, but don't like the pressure of having to do it or else!

The female avatar didn't really bother me, mainly because I grew up with brothers playing Tomb Raider and the like, and it's done in such a cartoony way that I know it's not trying to be anywhere realistic. xD
So far, I'mm really enjoying the app. I love how it has a timer to go off if I need to do a task at a certain time and such. It's really helped me, and I'm so excited to get my loot!

I registered with Habitica a few months ago but I found it too... busy, I guess? Too much going on. I didn't really want to, or have time to, keep track of earning gold or doing quests or customizing my avatar. It wasn't working for me personally; mainly I wanted to keep track of things I needed to do. So a more simple way to build up a good habit I found is using the X effect, and using this app to track my progress, if anyone is interested in trying a more straightforward, though more self-motivated, approach to developing a new habit.
I really like where this thread is going, so I'm going to adjust the title a bit!
What do you all think is one of the best apps you've used?
Try to focus on life-improving apps and not just 'fun game' apps like CandyCrush or something
For me, like I said I really enjoy this EpicWin app. I'm really bad at keeping track of life and whatnot, so I also recently got the Mvelope app to help me with my spending. I'm still trying to figure it out (I accidentally skipped the tutorial) so I can't give any reviews on it yet.
What do you guys use to get your life on track?
