Chris couldn't believe it; they were pulling ahead of the competition. Only two racers in front of them were barely holding their lead, but even so, CD was rapidly catching up.
"Keep close to the inside if you can," Chris murmured, "I think you'll pass them." They were nearing the second turn at an incredible speed and Chris had the biggest grin on his face.

CD stayed in the inside the best she could. Only now she was at 200mph, roaring down the pavement at a speed few racers could manage without crashing. Her engine was still vrrm'ing loudly, the core working hard to keep up with the transmissions she was receiving.
One of the racers beside them tried to cut them off, his bumper coming within several inches of CD. Chris grit his teeth, hoping they wouldn't actually collide. At this speed there was little room for accidents.
But if they made it past--they would be almost home free. The only other obstacle being the pothole.

CD scowls, her core letting loose a static discharge that cackled silently over her frame. Not that she was able to control it. Her core had a mind of it's own and if anything attempted to hit her off course her core would be quick to protest. She soon was up to 245, only a few more miles left until she would be at her max speed. Her brown eyes casted a quick glance at the car close to her before she looked forward again.
They rounded the third corner with little problem--it was the up-coming fourth one that would be a problem. Along with the racer that was still trying to hem them into the inside lane.
"Uh, CD...pothole," Chris warned. "And this guy doesn't look like he's going to move over anytime soon."
Already he could make out the dark shadow that was the ominous pothole.

CD's core buckled, and she cringed, engine puttering as she soon was up to 250. The numbers on her sides lit up, electricity cackling within the hidden crystal lining. She saw the shadow, looked at the car trying to hem her in. Her tires sensors adjusted her tires to the holes data she conjured up, enough that she hoped she wouldn't crash. At max speed, this wouldn't be easy. Her core came back into order, pushing her speed to steady out and keep at 250.
''Hold on, this isn't going to be smooth!''
''Hold on, this isn't going to be smooth!''
Chris grabbed a handful of seat cushion as he braced himself for going over the pothole. The racer hemming them in, swerved just out of range of the hole at the last second, slowing only briefly--or so Chris thought--to watch them tackle the obstacle.
"Damn it," Chris muttered, speaking through his clenched jaw. "Don't turn your tires if you can help it."

With a loud CLUNK CD's fixed build hit the pothole, sending her cringing lightly as her insides ran amuck breifly. Her core was jolted, but stayed in place as she swerved to the left a bit before steadying out after hitting the hole. While it left her back right tire wobbly, she stayed intact, giggling lightly. Of course, her bumper was dented a bit, but she seemed pretty cheerful for managing to go over the hole.
''How's that? You ok in there?'' She asked, still going 250..Though her engine had silently got loose and the power was only coming from her core that was backing up the supply and running her build.

Chris winced and gulped at the noise of hitting the pothole, but frankly he was just glad to be on the road still.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. I don't think you are. But for what its worth. I think we won." They had zipped past the one remaining racer in the lead, as CD had kept her max speed.
Chris would wait until she actually slowed down before turning to jelly; his arms and legs shaking from the adrenaline spike.

CD crossed the line, but pouted as her speed dropped until she slowed to a halt. Her oil was leaking out from her jarred engine. No gas came out, seeing as she had ran out in the race. Her core shuddered violently afterwards, and shut her off, making her fall silent as her engine erupted into smoke from leaking oil.
"Uh, CD? CD!" Chris bailed out of the car as smoke poured from the engine. He didn't need to shout for help as the other mechanics came running with fire extinguishers--unloading them all over CD's hood.
"What the heck happened?" asked the old racer who had been in the garage. "Wasn't she just working earlier?"
"It was that other racer," grumbled Chris. "He forced us into the pothole. Can I borrow some tools?"
"Sure," the old racer replied. "She came in first on her first race here, over the pothole even. Take your pick of whatever you need."

Once the smoke was put out, CD stirred a bit. Her brown eyes opened weakly, core turning back on, just singed. ''Did I win....?'' She asked, dazed and vision blurred.
"Yes, yes you won. On your first lap, even. No one ever wins on their first time around; unless it's a set up," replied the old racer before Chris could respond. "And you win a custom fix at our little garage here on the track after pulling such an incredible stunt. I gotta say though; haven't seen such speed like that in a while. Nearly foolhardy."
Chris shook his head as suddenly Clutch pulled up next to them on the track. "CD! What happened? I heard that you went over the pothole. Did you survive?"
"She's fine, Clutch;" said Chris, "or will be as soon as we fix her up again. We really need to do something about the pothole though. It's a serious danger."

'Mrrfff..'' She replied, engine puttering lightly in reponse, eyes starting to shut again. ''I'm...Fine....Not the worst I've been.'' She replied, smiling lightly and looking at Clutch thoughtfully in a silent thanks for having been rescued from the clutches of the ocean on days ago. ''Why can't...You patch up the hole...?'' She asked the crew, starting to fade from conciousness as her core shut down from engine trouble.
"Well let's get her off the track," said the old racer. "Move on and clean up and get her back to her prime."
Chris nodded and they worked to roll CD into the shop. "Oil leak, looks like. I got this." He waited until they were in the shop before he scrambled underneath CD's bumper to fix the immediate problem at hand.
The other mechanics lent a hand too, muttering their surprise over a newbie racer beating a veteran.

CD was out cold, shut off and deathly silent to the world. Her engine was jarred loose, and dangerously close to the switch that allowed her to change forms. Any movement would easily trigger her human form.
"Hey Chris, you might wanna slide out from under there," the old racer said. "Her engine's barely in there."
Chris hastily rolled out from under CD at that, but not before he had finished with the oil. He gave it one last tighten before regaining his feet. "Okay, thanks. Do you have something to steady it?"
"Yep, right here." Randall, the old racer, wheeled over one such contraption that would keep the engine from dropping. "But you're gonna have to get under it to fasten the straps."
"Sure thing." A few moments later, Chris was securing the straps around the engine when he felt it give. "Uh, Randall? You got a hold of it right?" The last thing he wanted was to get squashed.

The movement of the engine tripped the wire and gears in CD started to whir to life as a white electric started to cackle over her frame and surrounds her body. The core glowed ghostly white, giving off an immense power unknown to the world as the gears whirred faster, the engine starting to rumble violently with the body shaking aswell...
"Chris!" Randall yelled, as he snatched his hand away from the sparking car.
Chris was startled too and he scrambled to escape from underneath CD, but he was a tad slow as she transformed back to her human form before he could wheel himself free.
"Ahh!" he yelled, envisioning himself squashed by an engine.

Instead a very lightweight form landed on him. It seemed CD's weight lightened immensely. Though she landed on his belly, still knocked out. Hard enough to hurt him a teeny bit. She stirred afterwards, wincing slightly, and opened an eye. Her engine was replaced by the metallic guard over her core, witch was barely hanging on to reveal the crystal inside.
''H.....H...Hunh....?'' CD asked opening her eyes again, staring at the ceiling.
