Chris sighed and clicked a few times at the frozen screen and then unplugged the laptop entirely. Clutch honked his horn.

"Hey, I was almost done!"

"Yes, well, so was I before the entire system locked up." Chris scowled and unplugged the cords from his laptop. "I'm done and going to sleep. Maybe I'll dream up the solution."

''I'm guessing the core isn't going to give up it's secret easily. Did you learn anything Clutch?'' 54 asked.

Clutch scrolled through his diagnostics and beeped. "Well, it pretty much is a useless code in there now. FF Inc gave up because they couldn't do squat with it; and it's impossible to work with, personality wise. And that's about it.

Chris sighed and flopped down on Clutch's hood. "Look, guys...this is probably pointless. Why should I even bother with it? We're already down to two AI vehicles, 54, you still need a replacement body, and now I have this to work with on top of that... If only I could just fuse you all into one core, then maybe we could get somewhere."

''Your not putting me with CD! You saw what happened when you did.'' 54 growled.

The FF's core crackles again. ''Zrrrtttt....You...Give up too.....Easily..Zrrrrttt...Chris....'' It hissed, using a stray radio close by.

Chris turned to look at the radio and then at the RP core. "Wha-? I'm not giving up! I'm going to bed. It's after midnight and...huh." He frowned. "Guess my dad went to bed after all." Somehow Bill had slipped out and left Chris alone in the garage.

''Yes...You are giv..ing up....'' The radio crackled.

"What I'm doing is taking a break so that I can get some rest, that way I don't break you any more than you already are." Chris took a deep breath, exhaled, and then slid off Clutch's hood. "And with that, I bid you au dieu."

Chris headed for the stairs at a run as Clutch sighed. "Well, that went well."

''Well, at least with a failed AI we'll get to learn how a fighter acts?''

Clutch cackled softly. "A fighter isn't worth much if they can't even run basic programs. And with a sour attitude, it's not going to get many programs. I guess we have to wait until morning for Chris to get any more inspiration. Humans are so boring."

''Humans are boring when their not working on things.' 54 retorted.

"Depends what they're working on. Sleeping is boring. Working without talking is boring. Not working and not being in the garage is boring... Humans are boring 90% of the time. Unless they want something from you. Then they're entertaining."

''So far, though, we did learn that Bill used to work for a fancy company.''

Clutch brightened. "True. And if he still worked there we could have had a lot of fun. But..." he trailed off. "I'll bet the new AI knows a lot about the facility. Or knew rather. Stupid viruses wiping AI systems clean."

''It seemed to have some data left, like notes and codes. Not all was destroyed. Maybe it just needs to be talked to and questioned whenever it gets a body to use.''

"True. Now to find a body... except that the next one Chris finds will probably go to CD and not the new AI. But maybe we can convince him to pick up a lemon from the scrapyard. That would work well enough..." Hope and excitement crackled through the run down Buick's speakers.

''We'll just have to ask him in the morning.'' Her core shuts down to rest.

Clutch sighed in agreement and then turned off as well. His battery had been nearly depleted and it needed some serious time to recharge...

Morning soon came as CD stirred awake, and her alarm starts to blare loudly by accident from her damaged body.

Chris tumbled into the garage, bleary eyed enough that he tried to turn off Clutch before realizing the car was already off. "What's with the alarm?" he grouched.

''My alarms damaged. It turned on when I awoke...'' CD groaned, cringing. ''Sorry..''
