Flavio holds up his paws at Bender, although his grin only grows as the big man yells at him. A retort comes to his lips, but he swallows it in time, those of Bender and his own ilk could turn violent in a moment's notice.
With a sigh the hyena walks over the deck, peering down the large holes. His eyes then travel to any other ships he could see from where he was standing. "Or you could 'acquire' a new one." The hyena mused, a certain slyness to his voice all of a sudden. In truth Flavio was wondering why Bender hadn't done this before, perhaps he needed a few hands to take her out though.

Bender grumbled. He did not like being the subject to a joke. Even less when his ship got involved. He realised that these two gentlemen had never seen his ship in full glory though. His angry grumble changing into a hearty laugh."Lad, I had you goin', didn't I?" His obnoxious laughter remained as he walked up the plank."I won't blame ya. Ya haven't seen this beast in its full glory yet."
As he walked on he sighed in reply to Arien."It's what I intend to do, lad. I've got me gold for repairs. I can even hire a team to repair it for me." He took a seat on a nearby bench near the edge of the ship and leaned against its railing. Flavio's 'helpful tip' made Bender smirk and pretty much forget about the hyena's former insult."Laddie, every captain needs a safe haven. And this one's one o' mine. Besides, me n' The Moneymaker have alot o' history. I wouldn't just give 'er away becuase of some scratches."
Bender eyed the two."Well, ya wanted a sword fight, I suggest we start by doin' just that." He said as he kept sitting back."Go on, lad. it's you versus the mutt. I won't have any killin' on me ship, alright?"

Seeing that the argument had more or less dissipated, Arien relaxed. He perked up at the mention of having a sword fight though.
"You're kidding, right? Killing might not be intentional from a blade." He looked pointedly at the holes in the ship. Not that he was worried about himself. He'd probably survive. He had the luck that followed fools. But he eyed Flavio and already had a hand to his hilt.
(ooc: If they're gonna fight on the ship...should we roll dice to see if they fall down a hole or something?)

Flavio also seemed less than happy about the prospect on fighting on the ship, even to fighting all together. The hyena had come here to look around and show how his gun worked, not to start sparring the man. "How exciting eh? I'm a good swordfighter." The musketeer swung his cape to the side to reveal the hilt of his rapier, then quickly pulled it out of the sheathe.
The hyena's grin grew and he stepped eagerly to the side, holding the thin blade pointed at Arien. His pose betrayed the true extend of his skill though. His steps were not as light as they were supposed to be, and he was gripping the silvery hilt a tad too tightly. Still Flavio showed some skill, by at least waiting a moment to see if Arien would make the first move.
(Rolls are fine with me, could be fun)

Bender Of Iron Will could care less wether the two wanted a duel. It was his ship, and on his ship he rules. Or that's how he sees it at least. The old captain just wanted a good show."Ya know. I'm used to seein' monkeys fight eachother, but this is just as good." He mused as he sat back.
Bender was mindful of the holes. He knew the wood had endured alot, and the aging of his ship did not help with the sturdyness. One as heavy as Bender could easilly make a new hole if he drops hard to the floor.
(I'm good with rolls as well. I was thinking about adding those sooner or later anyway. I'm just not sure how it would work. 1d20, roll below 5, you fall in? Something like that?)

(sounds good to me--behold my epic fail with dice now)
"I've never seen a monkey with a sword...but now I can say I've seen a hyena with one." Arien grinned and unsheathed his sword as well. He tested it for balance, adjusted his grip, and then giving the ground a fair glance to avoid tripping unnecessarily down any holes, he rushed at Flavio, aiming a swing for the hyena's chest.

rolled 1d20 and got 6
<5 = falling/tripping down a hole.
Flavio kept himself focused on his opponent, choosing to only give a chuckle at Bender’s words. He’d seen it coming when Arien finally attacked and the sound of steel meeting steel sang as the musketeer swept the blade aside. The hyena took a few steps back and then with a loud series of cracks disappeared with a startled scream.
rolled 1d20 and got 3
<5 = fall
Bender Of Iron Will grinned at Arien's comment, but that grin soon changed into a laughter that didn't seem to end. He himself nearly fell over the railing as supported himself onto it.
The hyena had made an existing hole much larger now, but was lucky that he fell only a short distance onto a stack of crates. Once the hyena recovered from his fall, he could notice this area being stacked with crates and weaponry. He might even notice a few gold coins on the floor. The crates he landed on were all labled 'Spicey stuff' or 'Do not open, lest you walk the plank'. The place was dim lighted and a short distance int front of Flavio there were stairs that lead back to the deck. Behind Flavio was a door that lead to the sailor's bunkbeds.

Arien halted his attack at once, looking down the giant hole worried. He hadn't heard a splash, but rather a splintering of something wooden. "Are you okay?" he called down to Flavio.
He hesitated and then sheathed his sword to drop down the hole. He promptly unsheathed it again, but kept the point lowered at the ground. Dimly-lit or not, his nose detected the scent of something spicy.
"Bender--what's in these boxes?"

"Bender--what's in these boxes?"
"Aye, aye." The hyena said, for the first time not laughing but cursing as he tapped debri off his shoulders. He tested both his arms to see if he weren't telling lies, but he felt nothing but passing aches.
As the hyena looked around the room his eyes narrowed, then his cursing stopped to produce a new smile, a knowing smile this time. "I wonder what kind of spice that is. Ehehehe."

Bender Of Iron Will managed to get his laughter under control as he walked downstairs. He was certain no boxes would have been badly damaged. Flavio's fall wasn't that deep. Perhaps the lids of some boxes that weren't allowed to be opened would have had a few cracks in them though. The smell from them was horrid for those who had sensitive noses.
The captain opened a 'Spicey stuff' labeled crate and revealed the dark red dust that was inside it. he dabbed his finger into it and licked it up." Red pepper powder, lad. It ain't as strong as yer goo, but it does the trick just fine for us people without burned insides." He chuckled. His eyes did narrow a bit as he looked at the crates that were not allowed to be opened."These crates are what're goin' to pay for the repairs of me boat, lad." He closed the crate again and offered to help Flavio back up." I'd prefer you keep them other chests closed. The stench from 'em is horrible, 'n I don't want it seepin' in me ship. If ya like ya can take a scoop o' red pepper powder though."

Not one to turn down spice or an open offer, Arien pulled out a vial from nowhere and filled it with the powder. "Red pepper, huh? I'll have to look into getting more, I think." Actually, he was looking forward to trying it on his next meal.
Another glance around the crates daring death to anyone who opened them, was too much for Arien. "Worse-smelling than red pepper? Unless there are corpses in them, I don't think I could come up with anything else." The sudden thought that maybe Bender wasn't exactly a law-abiding citizen struck, but Arien had no proof. And even if he did, he wouldn't rat him out--there was no reason to.
"Well, shouldn't you get these into port then?" Arien commented. "They're probably not doing you too much good in the bottom of the boat they're supposed to help rebuild."

Flavio raises his brows and steps back a bit, eyes travelling back and forth between the boxes and Bender. "You certainly are very informative about these crates. For something that has to remain a secret." The hyena's nostrils flared like mad at the strong scent, and he was unwittingly moving to the stairs, he just couldn't stand this place.
Bender Of Iron Will chuckled."If I could manage to these sacks o' meat to help me I'd probably have me ship fixed and ready to go. But they don't want to help. They say they've got more urgent business to attend to. Heh, these guys just don't like Isanians." He leaned against a nearby wooden beam and crossed his arms."No lads. I have to go to the big city 'n get me my help 'n materials there. Tricky work though. Gotta hire me a cart, 'n there's bandits 'round. So I'll need ta find protection as well."
As he explained that he snapped his fingers, as if he had an idea, but he started grinning as soon as Flavio commented him on how careless he was being right now."Lad, d'ya really think I'd invite yer sorry hides on me ship if I was carrying questionable goods? I'm not liein'. The stuff in those crates smells horrid. Corpses smell better loads better." He grinned.
Bender did actually lie. None of this stuff was gathered legit. Flavio probably would have gathered this emmidiatly."I just thought o' somethin'. I don't s'pose yer here to enjoy the weather, are ya? If yer headed towards Kurin's Pride, perhaps we could travel togheter. It's safer than bein' alone, am I right?" He grinned widely, liking his idea.

The prospect of adventure was always welcome to Arien, and he perked up. "Kirin's Pride? I don't think I've been there before, but I'm game." He hesitated and then sheathed his sword, deciding that the fight was over for now.
"So, what smells worse than dead bodies and red pepper?" he had to ask. Already he was considering taking a peek--just to see what was in the crates. It wouldn't take long. The tip of his sword beneath the lid of the barrel, a little bit of pressure, and pop! the lid would come right off. Or so he would expect. His fingers itched to try it, but he resisted. He was still a guest after all.
He looked over at Flavio. "So? Are you interested? I'm guessing we're sailing for a bit...is it far?"

"Ohohoho!" Flavio voices up, a smile returning to his face. "Kurin's Pride? Is that not the big city you mentioned earlier. If you want us for protection it's only proper you pay us aye?" The hyena seeks confirmation with the human as he sheathes his own rapier again.
The hyena didn't trust this man much, but then again the hyena trusted few. Just like Arien he was incredibly curious what was in the crates though, just imagining what it could all be made him even more curious.

Bender Of Iron Will grinned."I can think o' alot o' things, lad. Rotten fish inside an open gut. Certain herbs. Whale blubber. Ya name it." He got up from where he was leaning."This travel's done by land, lad. It's a day away from 'ere."
Flavio asking money for joining him did not come as a surprise. He probably would have asked the same, if only to see how much money he could get out of it."Lad. I never asked for any kind o' protection." He grinned as he answered."What I offered was travelin' togheter to Kurin's Pride. We share expences on the way. Bandits will be less likely t' attack us. Ev'ryone wins. If ya prefer to stay here in this port, that's alright by me."

Arien considered for a moment; by land wasn't such a big deal, and he wouldn't mind traveling with company. Not that he had trouble with bandits usually.
"Personally, I've had enough of this port," Arien murmured, recalling his earlier ejection from the tavern. "So I'm game. But, uh, if you have all this stuff, how are you planning on hauling it?"

Flavio slowly shakes his head and, a bit up the stairs so the winds that drifted down the stairs pushed away the smell of red pepper, raised a finger. "Oh. Don't think these big ears of mine are there for nothing. I heard you very clearly." The hyena cleared his troat, and then imitated Bender's voice the best he could. "'Gotta 'ire me a cart, an there's bandits around. So I'll need to find protection as well' I heard you very well."
Although the musketeer didn't seem about to give up just yet, or at least made one last attempt at getting something out of the old man. From the way he smiled he seemed as excited for an adventure as Arien was.

Bender Of Iron Will chuckled. He had hoped the two didn't listen to him within detail."That was the worst impression I've heard all my life, lad. Aye, I said it. And now I changed me mind. I'm lookin' for companions, not protection. Should these companions be able ta fight, all the better." He said as he walked up the stairs as well, wanting to leave the subject of his crates behind him.
On the deck he grinned yet again."Well, Arien. I'm glad ta see ya still have yer sense o' travelin'. As for me goods, I'll hire me a cart. It won't slow us down too much, I hope. 'T is only a day's ride after all." He took a few steps away from the group."But I ain't leavin' until the mornin'. If yer nice I'll let ya stay in a sailor's bunk bed." He chuckles, finding himself hilarious as usual.
