Hi there! My name is Rock! Well, it's actually Mr. Rock, but this site doesn't allow spaces and most people just call me Rock anyways. I've been rping for several years, but on sites whose focus was not directly on role play, so I am going to choose not to say I'm a great role player, nor am I going to say I'm a bad one because I don't know the standards for sites such as these. I was requested to join this site from a friend of mine whom I think is called Sayomina, so I guess kudos to them if you guys like it when others invite more people to join here. (( Also I said that so I can find you on here friend. Help! It's confusing here!))
Well now that introductions are out of the way I guess it's time for some exta notes.
First of all, I have an irrrstional fear of confrontation so don't take it personally if I don't respond to anyone, I'm just shy sometimes.
Secondly, I work, A LOT, so don't be surprised if I'm not quick to respond Thurs-Fri, my job starts at about five in tbe morning, and can last up to ten hours or longer. Although, I do find some times to respond. Like right now, I'm at work but still posting, so....
Alright, with that out of the way I would appreciate it immensely if someone were to either tell me or direct me to a place where I could learn the ins and outs of how one is to rp here.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry if I have any grammatical errors, have to post quickly while at work and I end up not spell checking.

Hi, and welcome! I too am new here, but under help there is "Getting Started". I would read the whole page, or at least skim it, as it will give you a good idea of what this website is about and how to RP here, plus there are links to other helpful pages.
I hope I was able to help, and have fun with your RP!

Rock!! Hi! Glad you decided to join. I can help you with most stuff. Though I am still learning a few things...
Anyways *hugs*!!

Right, I should have just assumed there was a page for all that. I'm just on my phone so it looks all weird to me on the mobile version.
Hi friend! Please do imbue me with your knowledge of this site!
How the heck do you make it to where it looks like I'm responding to a specific person on here like you would on GR? >.<

Hi Rock!
There's a "reply" button on the top of each forum post so that you can reply directly to a specific post rather than to the topic in general. It will auto-quote that particular post for you.
We also sometimes use the @ convention just to indicate who we're talking to, such as
@Sayomina - Thanks for inviting a friend!
Weird how? Is something broken?

Nothing is, it's just a lot to take in. Like really, compared to my usual rp spot it feels like I just jumped up to Ap stats from basic fith grade math. I have no idea what I'm doing.
I can understand that! I'm very happy to help, though. Do you have any specific thing you're trying to do right now and not finding, or are you just not sure what is even possible to do?
I'm good in the field of general site mechanics for now (I have to actually get off work before I worry about making a character and how to do that.) I might just have a few obvious questions that I'll probably pester somebody about later. Though, if you want to get that out of the way we can.

If you have questions you'd like answered, there's no need to hold 'em back. Though I totally understand if you have friends here you'd rather ask them of!
No, I rather ask you. I'll just end up hiding in some corner of this form if I don't at least attempt to talk to people I don't know. Just give me a moment to formulate my thoughts.
Of course.
Welcome Rock! I hope you have lots of fun on RPR!
Welcome Rock! I hope you'll find your way around the site quickly so you can enjoy everything it has to offer. The community is well known for being incredibly friendly and welcoming. Glad to see you already have friends here to kick things off! Best of luck.
Hello to you as well new people that have shown up!
Ok, now for all the question I could come up with while still at work.
1. Do you click some button to make a character, or do you do it in the topic, or in both and their is some order to do it in to get yourself approved?
2.Once approved and connected to your profile, I assume you click on the bar that currently says you on it, and change it to the character you want to use?
3. Is this one rp, or several different worlds like the one my friend linked me to is one rp, and I just use the same character on different rps? Also, if I am supposed to use only set number of characters is it my challenge as the creator of my characters to make them as versatile as possible for rp?
4. Is there a certain basic template that has all the information required on it? I've never been one to make some pretty template.
5. Is everything I need for bolding and italics on this already, or is there some coding involved? Is this why I can't see my spelling errors on it? There's no typing things like <s.> <./s> To have it show up?
6. What's the rule for using pictures for character appearances? Can I just find a picture online and use it, or is that not ok here?
I think that's all I have for now.

To create a character profile, go to Dashboard and click the reddish button that says "Create new character". You can then use the Character Wizard to fill out some basic info and have it auto-formatted for you, or you can choose to do everything by hand.
"Approved" is a tricky question. The RPR provides the tools for people to do RP in whatever world, style, or play system them wish, so whether a character needs approval at all, and if so, what kind and how, is entirely up to the person running the game you want to join. More on this later!

You get 10 free character slots to do with what you will.
The RPR is home to thousands of RPs, and one of the main goals of the site is trying to help you find RPs that you'll enjoy. Here's the basics on finding and joining RPs:
When it comes to starting RPs, most people start in the Looking For RP forum to find some other players. There's also a search tool that will help you find what you're looking for within that forum - click "Find RP" in the top menu, then "join game" then scroll to the bottom to adjust your preferences for game types. If you want more info on using that search tool, here's a handy help article.
If you end up joining someone else's RP, they'll let you know the details about how to join in, get approved, etc.
If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
- You can just create a RP topic on one of our 3 public RP forums: General Roleplay, Sci-Fi Roleplay and Fantasy RP. Keep in mind that because these areas are public, you'll have to make sure the RP stays in the PG-13ish range.
- You can choose to RP via private messages, and just create a new conversation thread with all your RP partners as recipients. Since this is private, the only rules that tend to apply are not to do OOC illegal things and be nice to your RP partners OOC.
- If you're going to have a whole lot of people in your RP, or the RP setting is going to be very strictly defined and you want to have a place to store world building information alongside it, you might consider starting your own group. This gives you access to profile building tools for the group, but also to creating your very own forums!
- In some cases, you and your RP partner might even decide to use some other messenger or game to RP on.
However, when it comes to styles and systems, I can't give you a single "this is how it is here!" answer.
Our goal is to provide the general tools so that people can do any kind of RP that they want. I think that's part of what sets us apart from most other RP sites, which are often built to work with a specific system (ex. D&D 3.5) or style (ex. paragraph freeform) or even setting (ex. Harry Potterverse).
We have the flexibility for much more than one type of RP, which is awesome, but also makes it a little harder for us to tell you exactly what will be expected from you in every RP that you join here! But most people will happily tell you their expectations or what they'll need from you if you express an interest in knowing more about a potential RP.

We have no specific "required" information. People are free to use their creativity, unless they are joining a specific RP that has clear guidelines set out for them. But you can use the Character Wizard when first creating a character to get you started. When it comes to making the RP look really pretty, you can choose a pre-made template to change the styles of the info you've entered to suit your character.

Spellcheck is normally provided by your browser. We don't offer any ourselves, as for the majority of people, it would be duplicating an existing feature. You can use the buttons are the top of your textarea to add bolding and italics and the like. If you want to get fancier, check out this article on BBcode.

6. What's the rule for using pictures for character appearances? Can I just find a picture online and use it, or is that not ok here?
The RPR asks that you only use pictures that you have the legal right to use. Most photos found online are copyrighted. Google has you covered, though, with just one extra step! https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2289302/how-to-find-free-images-with-googles-advanced-image-search
Hope this helps, please let me know if anything is still unclear.
So you're pretty much just tossing me into the pool and hoping I know how to swim huh? Alright, that's cool .
I think that's all I got for now, thanks!

I'm trying very hard to do the opposite of that!
Glad to be able to answer, though, let me know if you come up with anything else.
