Hello, I'm new to this entire "RP" thing... I'm trying to learn how to do it for that special someone in my life... They love to RP, but I have little to no idea on how to do it and I feel like I just disappoint them when I try. I want to become exceptional at it so... I'm hoping to meet some people to help me learn and correct me when I make a mistake or to explain how to do something better.

Thanks for the time you took to read this and reply if you chose to.

Welcome to the site! :D If you tell your RP partners that you are open to feedback when you join, I'm SURE they will be happy to help you. It's very admirable to work harder at something you don't feel good at (yet).

When getting started with RP, I really recommend this primer on basic RP concepts as a starting place. It'll give you the most common basics that RPers everywhere tend to agree on. :)

We also had some community discussions awhile back about how to improve at RP.. I boiled them down into interesting articles for those who are interested. Here's a selection of my favorite ones:

Writing for RP
The responsibility of ALL RPers (getting this one right will generally make people sing your praises!)
And if you want to put a slightly more advanced technique in your back pocket for now and again: Using dice to enhance RP

Hope this helps you start your journey! :D
Hello and welcome to RPR! I hope you make lots of friends and enjoy your time here!
Hi! Welcome aboard! I'm pretty new too so I can safely say this place is CRAZY welcoming and friendly, I'm sure you'll make friends quick and you'll be learning in no time! The best part of your situation is RP is just about the most fun thing in the world (IMHO), so it won't be too much of a chore!
Hi, and welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll do fine, and the people here are really understanding so don't worry if you're 'bad' at it. Everyone starts somewhere! The important thing is that, while improvement is good, you have fun doing it. It'll be much easier and you'll improve much faster if it is something you truly enjoy doing!

Hey there and welcome to the RPR! We all welcome you to the most friendly roleplay community on the web! We're a very happy community and hope you find yourself to be fitting in. Feel free to ask any questions! I was one of the worst RPers when I first started, but I'm a pretty good one now!
Welcome to rpr!

Not exactly sure if this is the proper location to start asking questions, but... how exactly do I go about making a character? I know how to make one through the website, but I'm not the most creative person. I'm not sure I can make a "good" character or one I would like.

I also wouldn't like the idea of using/borrowing someone's characters.

Hi! I think this will be helpful for you: http://www.rprepository.com/help/getting-started-guide

It contains "How do I create a character?" :3
You are more than welcome to ask questions here, but you might get more bites if you asked that question over on the "RP Discussion" forum. That being said, I would start with something you enjoy. Do you like fantasy? Sci fi? And then build from there. It also helps to give your characters a more human like flaw. Maybe your elf is afraid of the dark? It helps people better connect to them. Hope this helps! Everyone here is so friendly I am sure you'll get lots more varied replies on the other forum :)

That's very considerate of you :3 If you want to RP with anyone or you just want to chat, you're very welcome to message me :D
Well hi there! That's very sweet that you've decided to try something for the one you love; I really find that commendable. Welcome to RPR! I'm Lotus, but call me Light or whatever you like that's nice! It's really sweet to meet you!

Everyone here has already left some great links to get you started! But if you need to look over all the help topics we have, the Help Section in general holds what everyone else has already linked to if you need a quick refresher or you may have missed something. It also has more in depth information about the site and RP once you feel more comfortable in your ventures!

I really wish you good luck here and in the world of RP in general! I'm sure you'll love it.
Welcome to RPR and the world of roleplaying! What I tell newcomers to rp is to basically visualize you are writing a book from your character's point of view. You need to be able to picture your character and create for them a world for them to live and interact in. You need to be able to see as they see, smell as they smell, and touch as they do. Once you are able to do that, you just need to put that in words!
When I first started out, I thought about the kind of person I wanted to be. I wanted to be this tall chick, blonde hair and bright green eyes welding knives and poison with ease. It was from this image that I was able to create "Bell" or what I guess you could call my old virtual persona. She's kind of like my character Cynthia, just less of a crab and more outgoing like I wished I could be. You need to be able to create a character or persona that you feel like you are able to take on the task of delving into their mind. If you can't do that with the person you create, just cull'em and try again! I would suggest creating a character that you have similarities with to start off and then try other characters.

I would be happy to rp with you some time or give you more advice. Just pm me! :)
Welcome to RPR, Hope you have a great time here and make lots of new friends.
Hi and welcome to RPR!

Well, it seems to me that everything that could help you get started has already been said, so all that's left for me to say is: Hi and welcome to RPR! It's nice to meet you. Let's RP sometime (when I'm no longer busy, that is.)
