I know it seems like everyone's running on hiatus; but I swear mine is all for good things. I'll just be not-posting Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. I've got some good stuff happening and I need to concentrate on figuring out how to be a "responsible" adult as I make my way into the wild blue yonders of independency; ie: out from under my parents' roof.
Anyway, just a heads up. Also, any advice about looking for apartments would be welcomed. Thanks guys; and I'll be back to my regular posting madness by Sunday.

good luck, even if it's short!
Check. Everywhere. Looking into online websites is good, and can help you get an idea of what you want, but sometimes the very best way to find an apartment is to simply get in your car and drive around until you see a complex that catches your eye.
You've probably already done this, but make sure you include utilities into your budget. When I was looking at apartments at first I was thinking only along the lines of 'this is what I can afford rent wise' and didn't think about how utilities are also monthly. Getting an apartment that includes water+sewage is a good idea.
Also, do you have a roomate/are looking for one? I would strongly suggest writing up a roomate agreement and having both parties sign. I use to loath this kind of thing, but one by one my roomates in the past have managed to not pull their side of the bargain and it's left me out several hundred dollars as a result.
Also, sometimes that is on the information given to you isn't always correct. Some places advertise 'yes! we accept pets!" then you show up only to find out 'oh, just kidding, thats for our other apartments. We just use the same advertisements' or, like in my case, the information will say 'absolutely NO PETS!' but they actually allow small animals for a fee.
Also, if you can save up two month's rent at a time (usually impossible, but not always) try and do so. It looks good to your leasing office mostly, and keeps you from freaking out if something goes wrong and you wind up short one month.
Good luck, hope this helped!

Good luck finding an apartment! Luulu's advice is pretty spot on! Can't wait to see you back and posting again!
Well, I found three places! One has a waiting list; the second has an opening in June, and the third has multiple openings throughout July. All I need now is the acceptance letter for the job...and then I'll be moving!
I'm praying it all works out. And also, I'm back from hiatus, although my schedule is really wonky this next week. Ugh. Openings, closings, and taking care of a neighbor's dog with cancer...life got complicated.

Does your neighbor have cancer, or your neighbor's dog? Either way, I'm glad you were able to find some apartments! What field will you be working in?
One thing about budgets is this: I know a lot of people say to pay yourself first. I've seen SO MANY PEOPLE get in trouble doing this. Pay your bills first, in descending order of importance: rent, electricity, water, groceries, car payment, gas, savings account, mobile phone (or land line), credit cards (if you have any--btw, don't get any yet), then everything else. If you pay the important ones first, you'll be able to rest easy knowing that at least you've taken care of what needs taking care and anything extra you have left will be for fun stuff.

It's my neighbor's dog that has cancer. But he seems to be doing a lot better since my neighbor opted for neutraceutical supplements over chemotherapy.
As for the apartment and stuff--it only works to pay yourself first if you can still come up with money to pay everything else later. And I do have a credit card that I pay regularly every month; as well as student loans and a car loan.... At any rate, I don't really need a whole lot of money--I tend to save more than spend. (I also have really good credit due to student loans.)
My field will be Latin Teacher at a private school in Lynchburg--fingers crossed! I'll be teaching 5th-8th graders. I love that age group.
