I am not sure if this should go in small talk or not. Anyway...
DO any of you listen to music while you role play? Sometimes music helps me get inspired and get creative. Sometimes, I just boot up Youtube and put in music from Final Fantsy VII, Tactics, IX or any other video game music to get my creative juices flowing.

So...

What kind of music do you listen to while you Roleplays?
Or do you not use any music?
T...that's a good question! When it comes to actually replying, I don't use music; the extra noise in my ears distracts me while I type. Then I end up just listening to the music and forgetting to reply...
However... Inspiration wise, music and sounds from videos are a great source for RP ideas and plot devices, and outright silliness I want to draw later. I'll imagine my and/or my partners' characters acting out a funny skit in a video or going through a massive fight or dramatic scene set to rock or dark music.
It's fun to imagine and think about how each character and their personalities would react to different genres of music and whatnot.

I may listen to a few songs or watch a video before or as I start a reply for some inspiration, but it's off before I get too far in. I can't revise or proofread writing with music either. Same goes for drawing, I can doodle and sometimes paint with music or background noise, but shading and my best work is done mostly in silence.
For inspiration, I like music from video games. Risk of rain, Starbound, anything from SuperGiant, and occasionally selections by Danny Baranowsky(Super Meat Boy, Binding of Isaac, Crypt of the Necrodancer).

Nope, never. Never occurred to me that someone might!
I am the sort of person who does sometimes~ More often, like the others I'll listen to it just before typing and then switch it off so I don't accidentally start typing lyrics but a lot of the time I like to draw while roleplaying, and music really helps me focus when I'm drawing so it happens naturally!
Then again, I'm also the kind of multitasker who has two monitors that are always showing something, one flash game and one video and one webcomic and like three RPs...

Yeah, i do it all the time. I'm even doing it right now. I just go to my soundcloud and let my playlist play.
I won't even lie, i'm guilty of getting a Disney playlist on, either that
a bit of indie/rock, all depending on the scenario and what mood
i'm in.
Music is my muse

If I do listen to music, it really needs to be something that pertains to the character. So more often than not, it will be classical or something Middle Eastern or Asian or something that the character would listen to or from their background. I don't really listen to MY music when I RP, because that pulls me out of the character I'm trying to RP as. My characters are people in my head and they speak to me and I use music to draw one out over the others, usually.
Always, it helps reach for the character's aesthetic/mood. There are times where it's too distracting though.
Music's (as far as I know) the only thing capable of stimulating your brain entirely and ambient noise has been proven to amplify creativity. It nourishes you in a way that you 'feel'' or 'perceive' the mood better in order to act as a catalyst for your character.
I also think the genres tie in with the characters a person creates, but that's just a theory, I have no evidence.

I do sometimes. Mostly instrumental because music that has lyrics tend to cause issues with you while you write, because your brain is focusing on the lyrics instead of the writing you are doing.
Hell yes. All the damn time.
All. Kinds. Every damn genre.

I cannot RP without music.
I usually listen to Soundtracks (I.e. Braveheart, GoT and Interstellar.)

Ha! Okay so this is weird..
More or less, each of my girls is inspired in part by a song, or two. Jay is a lot of the Queen of The Damned soundtrack and a bit of Deadsy mixed with some southern gothic. In turn, the things that inspire me to write the characters, along with related songs or things in the same little ballpark all get thrown into a playlist...which I listen to when I play that specific character. It kinda helps me find the right headspace for journals and rp in general. I do pause when it's my turn to post because I have an awesome attention span. Not.

I'm so glad everyone else does this!
Music just helps you get into this mood, it's amazing. For Indie, she's mostly inspired by Breaking Benjamin and songs on the Supernatural soundtrack.

Sometimes I'll listen to a few songs that fit the mood before an important rp to help me get in the zone. If I listen during the RP it had to be instrumental, or I start getting more into the music rather than paying attention to what I'm typing. The same goes for my writing, I either take short breaks every now and then to immerse in powerful music to set the scene, or I have to have instrumental going in the background. I use a lot of Epic Score music, such as Two Steps From Hell, and recently I found a song that really fit so well with my main, I just had to play it on a loop for hours while working on some stuff for him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeYke08Xuws
I usually listen to music, but it's gotta be fitting, I guess.
So lots of Rasputina, CocoRosie - both of which are incredible live, so if you're into weird music make it a point to see 'em! -, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Die Antwoord... it's all kinda listed on the RPR. NSFW on that link.

Songs are a huge influence on my characters and I'm known to pass songs along to my partners to say it's my chars mood/feelings.
I have certain genres and playlists for characters to find the muse for them. It's easier to play them if I set the "mood", so to speak.
