i've never really been in a group for rp... well i mean ive join some to well try to see how it all works but got nothing and learned nothing out of that.... but what i'm wondering is how exactly do you rp like that?
It depends a little bit on the kind of RP, but in general there are two ways.
1. Everyone who is interested responds and gets added to an order, for example: John, Susan and Sam sign up for a group RP. The order is established as: Susan first, Sam second, John third.
Susan creates the first post, then Sam responds, then John responds. Then Susan responds, then Sam, then John. This continues throughout the whole RP until the end, where everyone has the chance to reply to what's happening and add in their own little twists and ideas as they go along.
2. Everyone who is interested responds, but the roleplay order is random - whoever can reply, replies! This means Sam could post with John back and forth for 10 responses, and then Susan joins in and responds every couple of posts when she can. There's no strict order.
Both have their pros and cons, with #1 being the most preferred one in my experience because otherwise it's easy to leave others out. Sometimes there is a 'minimum # of posts a day' requirement, where if you don't respond within x days, your turn is skipped to keep the RP going (and you can respond whenever you're available again).
Details can vary per group, which usually has one person in charge of organizing order and keeping tabs on responses. You can always discuss with the group what everyone's preferences are and request changes where needed. It's a lot easier than it sounds, just make sure to talk to them!

Both are possible! If you create an RPR group you can RP in separate forums for that group. Otherwise all participants can be added to one RP thread where the RP happens.
PMs don't allow you to add or remove players though, so if you want flexibility, group forums are the way to go!
