Ok this rant is going to have plot spoilers so if you care about that, don't read.
SPOILER WARNING:
Am I the only one disgusted with this play? I only read the plot summary and I would already burn the book despite being a total book lover. I mean seriously, Voldemort's daughter? There is absolutely NOTHING in Voldemort's character that would ever even consider having a kid.
I also hate that they made Harry into a control freak of a father who would say to his own son that he wished they were not related. That also doesn't fit Harry's character at all who was said that one of his greatest powers was his ability to love! To say something like that to your own child goes against what the character itself was meant to represent.
I also don't think I need to mention the whole time turner mess and Hermonie's stupidity at hiding it.
Personally I am going to pretend that the cursed child never happened and am never going to read the actual book or watch the play.
So am I only one who was disgusted by this mockery of the HP universe?

I'm not even a big Harry Potter fan and that sounds like a total monstrosity.

Exactly, this is me right here.
(WITH BELLATRIX LESTRANGE, TOO? JESUS.)
(And of course the kids of Draco and Harry and Hermione and Ron become besties.)
(And of course there's time travel.)
Goodness.
Yeah, the synopsis is terrible (I haven't read the thing yet, since I got spoiled early on) but I don't know if I'd called it disgusting . Grossly out of character, yes, but I guess my hyper fangirl tendencies have dulled with age. I get the sentiment though.
I may just be bias because I may have shipped scorpious and Albus before it was cool
And while I get the anger at the thought of Voldemort being a sexual being...If I had to put money on who he'd bump uglies with...I have to say that's the most IC thing I've seen so far.

Are we talking about the book that was just released? Good god... i was gonna BUY IT
Honestly don't judge something before you have the chance to read the entire thing your opinion greatly effects the people who read your post and makes them think that they should not like it because you don't . What I'm saying is that first you must atleast read the book in its entirety before jumping to conclusions. Two you are influencing the people around you greatly without knowing it, and three I politely ask anyone here to first read the book before jumping to an unnecessary and over exaggerated conclusions I personally love the book so far myself but their are others ( such as yourself ) that disagree so I won't push the point . And honestly if your thrown off by one bad synopsis are you truly an HP fan. I believe that if you love a series wether it be books, movies, games you should enjoy what you get from the maker of that series before the series no longer exist by living by this philosophy I have enjoyed many bad movies, games that the general public does not typically like....for example I highly enjoyed the Star Wars prequels and have not let anyone change my opinion. I am not asking that you change your opinion but rather read the story in full before judging thank you and good bye.

While I agree with you for the most part, fans shouldn't mindlessly like every product a creator puts out. Me disliking what I've heard of Harry's characterization doesn't make me less of a fan. In fact I dislike it because I care about the series.
It sucks when you see backlash about something you like (I'm a fan of the new Star Trek movies. I know that feel.) But it happens.
Hell. Even with my apprehension, I'm still tempted to pick up the book. I'm just going to wait until the media about it dies down and the general public isn't talking anymore.
That might be for the best. I find it more enjoyable when I watch a movie, play a game, read a book, when the hype and backlash has died because instead of getting constantly attacked they react in a way that sort of says " ok whatever" instead
@Raider-jack29 I do consider myself a harry potter fan, I grew up with the books, watched the movies and even played a couple of the video games. I'm actually offended that you doubt my love of the harry potter universe because I dislike something that I consider to be grossly out of character. It is because I love the series that I hold it to a higher standard, a standard that the new play didn't come close to meeting.
As for not reading the whole thing, honestly from what I have read, the only thing that would accomplish would make me hate it even more, I know my tastes enough to know that as the summary was enough to enrage me and that is extremely rare.
Also if people are being influenced into not buying or reading it, then it is their own fault for reading this. I did post two spoiler warnings after all and it would be even worse if I chose a less descriptive title.
I also don't consider myself a hyper fangirl, but the disgust comes from a lot of sentimental reasons stemming from my childhood. For example the harry potter series was the very first series I started as a child.

My thoughts are usually that if I enjoy it I enjoy it if I don't I don't I can see your opinion but even though I'm fairly young I've learned not to judge by first thoughts( and boy did I learn the hard way ) but I do respect a person set in their ways and though you do not like it you can atleast acknowledge it so that you can compare it to other works by the author or creator to show that in your eyes they can be diverse they are not always perfect but when it's good it's good and when it's bad it's bad. ( though people still glare at me when I mention my opinion on the new ghostbusters) I respect your thoughts but it just felt you where jumping to conclusions too soon but if your that set I can't do anything to change it. No matter what our opinion on certain things connected to the series we all have one thing in common! Atleast we all love the series as a whole right?

I actually read the summary multiple times multiple times just trying to make sense of it, and then I just went "why?" It felt like I had read a bad fanfiction and not something canon. It was like a gut punch straight to the childhood. I had to put up with a lot of crap as a kid and I don't want to risk tainting my happy memories of harry potter by reading the Cursed Child because I honestly believe I would regret doing so.
I would prefer to think that Harry Potter was a wonderful father determined to give his his children the loving parenting he never got to enjoy.
As for Voldemort, I would have been fine with an antagonist seeking to restore the dark lord or emulate the dark lord...just not one that would go completely against his character like giving him a child did.

I actually felt that it was rather in his character. Picture this... Voldemort the dark lord feeling the possibility of his death draw nearer each day conceives an heir in order to continue his legacy should he ever pass on( which he at the time thought unlikely) or if he did live he would train the child as his own to become his ultimate soldier. I haven't read through the entire thing but that's just what I feel his reasoning would be. As for Harry's parenting skills.....I have no exscuse for that... That was just poor Writting on Rowlings part (....it actually physically hurt to say that ) I was waiting for Ginny or someone to straight up smack him at some point.
You could argue that, but Voldemort was never shown to accept his own morality. Hell he thought that death was the worst thing possible and I just can't see him even considering the possibility of his own death, let alone take steps in case it happened...it just honestly doesn't sound like something he would do.
People are free to disagree with me on that, but that is my interpretation of his character on that front.

It's ok I can see where your coming from
Asking this because I haven't looked too deeply into the new book: is there a book & a play, or is the play the book with the yellow golden color we just stocked this week in our book section?
(Context: Target got its copies!)
(Context: Target got its copies!)
Book and play but currently the play is only in the uk
The book is the script to the play

theyre called rants for a reason, pal... And does it REALLY matter if someone's opinion is really strong? Just because this person loathes it doesn't mean the entire Harry Potter fanbase will flock to this post and be like "it must suck cause THEY said it did"
