The cottage wasn't exactly what one could see right away. It was deep in the woods, and off the beaten path that led to town. It was fairly well hidden, by the population of dense trees. The cottage itself was crudely made, with mud bricks and twigs for the base and walls, and leaves that were dried and strung together for the roof. It leaked, and it looked like it wasn't very livable. It blended in well enough that most passerbys who dared to venture off the path to town really couldn't see it at first. Only those that were looking for something might have found it. There was nothing outside of the cottage that gave any indication that there was anything or anyone living inside. There were no windows, and the slab of bark from an old dead tree was made into the door, which would be very well wedged to be closed. There were no visible foot prints, and the tracks that were around it were made by a large animal anyway.
There had been rumors about that cottage. The townsfolk whispered about it, the mysterious cottage that could never be found, that was somewhere out in the woods. There was talk that there was something dangerous around it, that it was protected by something. Maybe it was haunted, that had to be it. The cottage had feet, and moved places. Maybe that was why it couldn't be found. Those that had tried to find it, either failed or came back barely alive, and sounding delusional. Not many tried to actively look for the cottage after that.
Still, the cottage remained secluded from prying eyes, so far. Even when Sophoni stood on the path and was actually trying to look, she couldn't see it. She looked around her, and clutching her basket in her hands a bit tighter, She bit her lower lip and walked off the well ridden path. it was market day, and she had the basket filled with all sorts of goodies from town. The bread wasn't as fresh anymore from the three hour walk, but at least she had food. Sophoni kept looking over her shoulder, back to the path as her feet took careful steps to avoid broken branches and leaves as she walked further into the woods...

Cassandra was lost, to put it bluntly. She had wondered out of the desert, her own home, and got lost in the woods because lioness' weren't made to have great directions! She eeked and erked at the growth, her large wings easily getting tangled up. She was new to the lands, and had little to go by. Sand would come off her wings. Eventually she got free, and went in deeper into the woods, ears perked a bit. Of course, a sandy colored lioness would be easily spotted considering she had spots and stripes.
Sophoni walked deeper into the woods. Still, she looked over her shoulder, making sure that either no one was there, or maybe she was seeing if someone would come with her. There was no one out on the road though, even though it was the road to town. The distance between Sophoni and the road grew, as she ventured further in the woods. There was suddenly a blur of golden fur that caught her eye, and Sophoni's hands clutched at her basket. She looked down to find out if it had become uncovered in the jostling. The cloth that covered the perishable foods were well tucked in. She bit her lip. What was in the woods now? She decided to follow this golden blur of fur, now that she was curious about it. There was a mix of trepidation and a twinge of irritation. Who could be in the woods, and this close to the cottage?
She heard something move, and headed towards it with her darker wings folded quickly. She was still frightened. Who else was here? No one had seen her before, seing as her kind was used to the deserts. She started to close in to who was getting closer, trying to stay quiet. This failed as her wings hit a branch when they spread again. Ack.
Sophoni had no idea what she would find. The more she thought about it, the more agitated and nervous she became. Someone, or something was here, and it wasn't supposed to be, at least in her eyes. There was the snap of a branch, or a twig, and Sophoni gasped, and seeing the basket a burden in her arms if she had to face something, She needed to make a decision. She looked off in the direction of the noise and then looked off in the direction of where the cottage was supposed to be. the basket could be safe if she hung it up high enough on a branch. She quickly searched for a sturdy enough branch, and carefully placed the basket on the limb, before she hurried after in the direction of that noise. "Hello! Wait up!" She bit her lip, knowing that it would be foolish to go chasing after things unarmed in the woods, but Sophoni wasn't exactly too worried about that.
She picked her way around trees and fallen branches as she pursued the strange thing that was in her woods. yes. Her woods. They felt like they were hers. She often was in them. "Wait up! I'm not going to hurt you! Come back here!" she caught glimpses of what she hoped she was still following in the woods.

This was when Cassandra got stuck in a mud pool, and sunk until her head only could be seen. ''Ack!'' She hissed.
