Kuro woke up as a sleek black kitten with two red spots on her back, one red spot on her blue eye, anda red ear. She looked around to see where she was; it looked like the entrace to an alley. The sun was up and she wished she had her normal human body back. She walked around the small area of houses and buildings as she tried to think about how she got this way. Her best guess was that while she slept last night her animal genes took over and changed her into a kitten. Why a kitten, she'll never know. My best hope would have to be to find a scienceist to help me change back. she though as she stopped near a busy street cooner and meowed over and over to get someone's attetion. Her eyes were still mismatched colors of red and blue but she still didn't get noticed since it isn't uncommon for animals to have two different colored eyes.

He was running down the street, his lab coat flaring out behind him, as he raced for his lab. He was late, more than late, and it was the grand opening of his newest department. Too bad for him he had chosen to oversleep.

Tungsten, a good sized rat that emitted a strange glow, clung to Eric's shoulder, its tail wrapped around Eric's arm to keep his balance.

But even in spite of his rush, as he made it to the street corner, he heard a strange...mewing. Was that a cat? He paused, ignoring the voice yelling in his head that he was going to be fired if he took too long, and looked for the cat.

Tungsten seemed to find it first, the rat's ears pricked forward. And Eric followed the rat's gaze to see a little black kitten looking forlorn. But it wasn't completely black. The red and blue spots and strange colored eyes were fascinating.

Eric approached and then knelt down a few feet from the kitten, holding his hand out. Tungsten clung tightly to his shoulder, watching the cat warily. "Here kitty," he said softly. "Are you lost?"

Kuro looked at the man who stuck his hand out at her, guessing he might be able to help her out. She sniffed the guys hand then meowed pretty much saying that she was confused. It showed in her eyes that she was confused as to how she was changed into a cat. She noticed the rat on the man's shoulder but showed no sign of pouncing at the smaller creature. Even though she was in the from of a cat she still thought like a human and not like an animal. She found it easier to control her animal genes when in this from. That jut confused her more.

Eric frowned when the cat drew closer. It almost seemed...confused. But it didn't look sick. And it hadn't attacked Tungsten. Then again, the glowing rat was a bit formidable, and also probably too large for a kitten to tackle.

He sighed. "Look," he told it, "I've got a busy day today but you're welcome to hang around. Maybe someone will claim you as theirs if nothing else, and if not, maybe I can figure out what you are. But if I don't leave for work now, I'm gonna be late. You coming?"

He didn't know why he talked to animals; but he did. He did the same to Tungsten, who right now wasn't acting very kindly towards the kitten. The rat was trying to hiss, but instead stuck its cold nose into Eric's ear, tickling him. Eric twitched and a laugh escaped him.

"Stop that, Tungsten." He paused and looked down at the cat. "Plus, you have to get along with my rat. No chasing, no biting and no eating. Or I'll turn you into a personal project. Got that?"

To most people this would seem the weirdest thing in the world but Kuro nodded her little kitten head, showing she understood what the man was saying to her. She stood up on all four paws then geastured for him to go on ahead and she would simple follow. Kuro had already caughten on the male's scent along with the rat's scent as well so if she got seprate from either one she could track them down. Her cat ear twitched a few times before she took a few steps into the dicertion it seemed the man was heading; showing she was smarted than the average cat more so the average kitten. She only looked a six months old as a kitten being very small compared to the other surronding people. She didn't care much of the rat's distaste towards her for her from at the moment.

Eric watched her for a moment, his lips pursed in deep thought. He grinned and shrugged when the cat motioned for him to go on ahead.

He took to his feet and headed down the street at a jog, glancing over his shoulder to ensure the kitten was keeping up. "I gotta say," he admitted to Tungsten, "I think this is a first in terms of stray animals following me to work."

It would also be a first when he finally arrived at work to find himself locked out of his building. He swiped his card ten times, to no avail. "Damn it!" He pounded on the door. "It's Dr. Eric Lansing--let me in!"

There was a significant pause and then the door opened. An intern, unsuspecting, had opened it for him. Eric stuffed his foot in the doorway before the door could shut. "Thanks, kid."

Kuro had followed behind Dr. Eric the whole way to his work at the same pace. She squeezed her small cat body through the open part of the door over Dr. Eric's foot. She looked up at the intern but made no sound. She looked at the door, awaiting for Dr. Eric to come in as her sleek black tail flecked back and forth. She guessed he was in a hurry and meowed loudly, telling him to hurry up. Kuro was an inpaient person, letting her temper get the best of her. She looked over to where she could see some of Dr. Eric's face through the door.

Eric waited for the cat to get clear before following her through the doorway. "Thanks, kid," he said, then added, "shoo."

The intern darted away, no doubt intimidated by Eric's lab coat or the glowing rat on his shoulder. Eric paused to scoop the kitten up as he let the door close behind him.

"Alrighty, to the lab. I just got assigned to it yesterday, so hopefully it's still standing." The joke was that it took him a day or two to blow one up. He pet the kitten absently as he walked down the hallway.

"Maybe I'll start with you first," he suggested to the kitten. "You have strange markings and colors. I wonder what your DNA looks like..." he trailed off, contemplating, even as Tungsten gently lit up the darkened hallway.

Finally Eric reached his lab and he opened the door with a key. He flicked on the lights as Tungsten scrabbled down from his lab coat and skittered across the floor to where his little cage was set up with food and water.

Eric set the kitten down hesitantly. "Remember, no chasing after Tungsten. He doesn't like cats. Usually." And he turned to the stack of files on his desk to sort through them.

When Dr. Eric talked about her DNA and her unusual spots, she flitched. It reminded her about her time with her master as painly infused different animal and human DNA in her blood stream. She nodded her head when he reminded her not to chase his rat. She watched Dr. Eric carefully, if he pulled anything that could be used for testing on her she would hiss at him. She really didn't want to be in another labtory from the memories of the pervious ones she had been in but she also didn't want to be stuck as cat. Her tail flicked back and forth as she watched Dr. Eric work with his files. She saw a nearby table and jumped on top of it, being careful not to knock anything other. She always couldn't stand having to look up at someone. She remembered the two scars she had and then she looked at her right foreleg to see a slash scar there, unhidden by her fur. Then she looked at her left back leg to see three deep clawings; also unhidden by her fur.

As engrossed in his work as he might be, he noticed when the kitten leaped onto the table. He kept an eye on her to make sure she didn't knock anything off, before noticing that she had scars on her.

He forgot about the files and went over to the table. "What happened to your legs?" he asked the kitten, looking at the marks himself. They didn't look like typical cat fight scars. He frowned and then looked at the red and blue spots again.

"Don't tell me you're actually someone else's experiment," he said.

At the far end of the room, he could hear Tungsten eating.

Kuro nodded she was an escapee from the Toyoko Experimental Labtory, but that was over four years ago and she though she didn't believe that she still belonged to them but she was still once Wang Sakuranbo's first success in creating a human being. Her scars didn't come from the experiments; the one on her foreleg was from when her masters wife tried to kill Kuro while she slept, as for the other that was when a bear attacked her and left scar that in her human from that would reach her ankle.

"Great, someone else's experiment. Maybe I can reverse engineer---hold up. You can understand me, can't you? Like exactly what I'm saying?" His eyes lit up.

Tungsten finished whatever he was doing and came scuttling back over. He hooked his claws into Eric's labcoat and worked his way back to Eric's shoulder. He observed the kitten from his perch.

Kuro nodded, comfirming that she understood what Dr. Eric was saying, she just couldn't speak back. She only hoped that he wouldn't try to find out who's experiment she was and return her to them. If he tried that she would bolt at full speed away. She spent four years of her life trying to stay away from her master and she would rather be stuck as a cat than have to face him again.

In fact, Eric had been about to look up her former experimenter. Not because he wanted to return her to him, but because he wanted to find out what he had done in the first place.

He grinned and then carried the kitten over to his keyboard. "Here," he said, placing her on his lap near the keyboard. "Can you type at all? Maybe we can communicate this way."

Of course, experimenting came in all sorts of methods. Trial and error were two of Eric's specialty. And so was making stuff up as he went. That might explain his frequency of explosions.

Tungsten chattered in his ear, but Eric ignored the rat with a: "Shush, Tungsten; let's see if we get anything more than random typos, which is what you produce with regular frequency."

Kuro though for a moment of what she should tell him. She moved her small paws on the keyboard typing something. She stopped and geastured her head for him to read it. On the computer screen it read: I asm Kuro Sakuranbo, Wang Sakuranbo'as first success in the creation oif humans by using amnimal DNA.
Kuro though some more of what would be counted as important. She started to type again for a minute or two then stopped. On the screen said: I am 50 percent human and amnimal. I was never before in the from you see me now, but somehow my animal genes changed my fropm. I need help getting back. I mustn't be known about or my master would come to get me and cause me to become more animal than human so he can get tyhe killing mechaine he wanted me to be.
She looked up at Dr. Eric to see if he was reading what she typed and more so to see he understood her poistion. She did not like how there was a few typos but she would just have to deal with it for now.

Eric stared at the screen, then at the cat, then back at the screen. His face went white.

"My god," he muttered. "You're really...not a cat." Typos aside, he could read and understand it; it was better than most interns could type--and that was saying something.

"Okay, so you're half and half, but what made you change in the first place? I'm afraid...I'm gonna need to take some blood samples. But if I had your former blood samples, I could compare them better and maybe make an educated guess about why this form and why now." He shrugged and looked down at the kitten. "What's your normal form?" He asked suddenly.

Kuro turned back to the screen and started to type trying not to get too many typos. She stopped after a few minutes and looked up at Dr. Eric, the screen read: My former ftrom was a 17-year-old girl with long black hair with four red streaks and ytwo toned eyes the same as the oines I have now. I do not have asny of my perivous blood samples but I dfo know that I have always had problems keeping the my animal genes from controling my mind and thoughts. My best guerss as to why I woke up this way is that my animal genes choose to change me physcially instead of mwentally in the reasult of me being as you see nopw. Most of the animal genes in my blood strteam are in the feline family. Her tail flicked back and forth as she waited for Dr. Eric's reaction to her thoughts on how she got this way.

Eric frowned, contemplating his theories and assessing the most likely ones. "Hmm, well, I don't know if it's the genes responding and the human body adapting, or if it's the brain that's causing such things to occur. But either way, it sounds like the cellular make-up of your body is changing."

He glanced at Tungsten who perched at his shoulder. "Tungsten did a little bit of changing when he got in the middle of my experiment, but it wasn't nearly so drastic as yours. To turn from 17-year-old girl to a kitten...without any conscious thought... Did you eat anything strange in the last day or two? Come into contact with anyone stranger than usual?"

Kuro recaped on what she did in past few days that would've possibly caused this. Sadly it didn't seem so. She turned back to the computer and started to type: I beliweve the only thing that would couint as in something that might have caused this would have to be possible some of the animasls I caught and ate in the times I would stay in the woods opver a period of time; but none of them seemed to me as unusual. I don't really know what might have caused this, usually the tiomes that i have the hardest tuime of control my animal genes in when I let my temper get the best opf me or when I came close to death.
The last sencent remind Kuro of something that could have caused this. She started to type faster than before. On the screen came: Before nmy from shifted I had somehow casught a diease that was unknown to me and everyday I could tell I came closer yto death. My animal genes might have changed me to this from so that my bnody would be able to fight the diease better while I slept since I guerssed that the diease was more meant for humans to catcvh than animals.
Kuro stopped typing and looked up at Dr. Eric to see what he had to say on this possiablity.

Eric brightened as he read her words. "Of course, that would explain a lot. Animals have a higher body temperature than humans; dogs and cats average about 99 to 101 degrees. So if your body started the conversion process with heat then it's likely that your proteins would have denatured and changed to become more like those of animals..."

He lapsed into a huge long explanation that he finished with a sigh. "So basically, the only way to bring you back to human is either to lower your core temperature, reintroduce the human proteins, and then hope that nature--rightful nature--takes its place."

He regarded the cat warily. "But, um, doing that is going to require supplies and needles."
