The moderators have made it possible for me to stay sane over the last two years. As the lone admin and programmer who ALSO has a full time job that is totally unrelated to the RPR, I work some astonishingly long hours to keep up with your bug reports and get new features out. There was once a time where, in addition to all of that, I was afraid to sleep because I never knew if there was going to be some problem on the site while I was away, and I had no one to help me keep watch and keep the peace.
There's no way I could thank these brave souls enough for all the time that they have volunteered patrolling every nook and cranny of the site, keeping it safe for all ages, helping to mediate disputes civilly, setting examples for positive involvement, and answering questions when I'm too buried in code to know my own name.
I am tentatively setting the date for Moderator Appreciation Day as July 1st. I'd like to do something(s) really nice for our mods.
I'm open to any and all suggestions of how you think I/we could appropriately thank them on that day. What do you think?

This sounds like a really great idea! I'd suggest maybe thank you notes, but I wouldn't want the poor moderator's inbox to be spammed. Perhaps you could set up a thread and pin it to the top of smalltalk on that day so that they can go there and see it? Or maybe one of those 'news' types threads? Just an idea, can't wait to see what everyone else has to suggest!
I demand an army of kittens!!
I think a great way to do moderator appreciation day would be kind of like our Kim and Darth thankyou cards, except online! Do art, write stuffs, all for the moderators that have really meant something to that individual!
We could also give them internet cake.

I like Celestina's idea. Art, write stuffs, ect for our beloved moderators.
I like that idea too Celestina, but for those of us that are not as artistically talented I hope they will accept a heartfelt thank you note
....puppies, kitties, and cotton candy?!?
I have to go with Loki on the hopes. *can't draw on the comp, nor can he draw in rl at the moment*
I think this is a brilliant idea! It'd just be nice if everyone wrote nice things about their moderator, and thanked them for all the hard work they've put in over the years. It doesn't have to be fancy, it'd just be nice to show some appreciation.
I'm thinking of writing a blog article about this at my blog, Kim would you do me the honour of writing a short article to announce it as it was your idea? I want lots more roleplaying people to get involved and hear about it!

Mods deserve love, and love they will get! Boxes filled with it!
I have no idea what would be a suitable way to thank mods though. I'll let everyone else decide what's the best way and I'll go along with it.

It would be neat if every mod had a t-shirt with comments from the community on it and the RPR logo. Personalized or grouped together. That is likely to be expensive or difficult to accomplish however
Sounds like a good idea to me! Most definitely!
*noms on a shirt* If it's at all possible, I'd love the shirts a bunch! I'll wear it everywhere and never ever take it off ever again!
It sounds like July 1 might be too close to Canada Day and the fourth of July for a few of the Mods to comfortably make it. Perhaps we should move it back?
Sanne, the t-shirts are a grand idea. I'll have to look into the cost... I'd been sort of sitting on the idea of t-shirts until we could get our new logo finished, so I'm squirming a bit thinking about jumping the gun there.

Our 'old' logo (I'm assuming the one at the top of every page) stands for the last two years we've helped you out! I'd love that one as much as I'd love a new logo, probably more so. Either way, I don't mind. I don't know about everyone else though.
Do you already have a business where you know they do T-shirts with prints well? If not, you could totally use us as guinea pigs for it.
I love all the suggestions in this thread! If I could carry all the love and squishy sweetness around me wherever I went (yay T-shirt!), I'd be the happiest person in the world.

I've been carrying around a business card someone gave me for a small-run apparel print shop for nearly a year now thinking I'd try them out for something like this.
I think we need to move the date of this back a bit. July 1st is Canada day and I don't want to conflict with other holidays if at all possible. Plus I want more time to prepare awesome amazing things.
Mods, are there days you know you definitely CAN'T do? What would the best week be for you?

June 21 to 24 as I am out of town for a wedding some crazy 12 hours away.
Last week of July to the first two weeks of August I am on vacation and I know for one week I will be doing nothing but sitting on my butt at home, just not sure when.
Jule 1st might possibly work for me as we haven't made any plans (previous ones fell through) so it is looking like it is a quite day at home. Or even June 30 or July 2.

I don't think Canada Day coincides with any moderators except for Dylan? I know for sure Darth, Serpahic and I aren't Canadian so I'm assuming it doesn't matter for us. Unsure about Sherlock.
I'll be out on the 23rd for a few hours, but eh... Not for an entire day for as far as I know at this moment.
