Letting people know the sorts of RP you enjoy can help you find a good group or a 1x1 RP partner. There are simpler RP's, as well as the more mechanic-heavy stuff such as Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder.

No really, before I came here, I was a nervous wreck. I still am, but RPR has been really helpful with me making a friend or two and reaching out to RP. So don't be nervous. We really don't bite, and some are just as nervous to introduce themselves to others (like me!).
