The rain would not let up this night. The nearby village had decided that it was an omen relating to the cold and desolate existance of the fortress that looked down upon them from an uneven hill. Even the stone slabs that were once a great road were strown along the path in an disorderly fashion. Sharp and stiff corners would jutt out of the ground, and the rain made walking treacherous. The village's lights and lanterns were the only illumination on this darkened night. The fort's rusted iron bars were bent into different angles, long since ceasing to protect others from entering. The 30 man span between towers held two empty walkways and small arrow slit holes that constantly leaked water as if the building itself was crying.
The nearby village spoke ill of the fortress and of the young lady that had questioned them profusely about it. They called her rude. They called her abrupt. But they didn't call her Crow~

Harren was only passing through, but was warned of a strange woman who lived in the area. Harren was strange herself, so she didnt really think about it. It was nothing to her.
Crow was also passing through the town, but she had stopped to take a detour up into the fortress. Not long after the young lady leaves the villagers alone, another stranger comes into the town square. Mothers of families were washing their laundry in the middle of the town, letting their clothes soak in the fountain there, while a few men sat on crates, stacked besides the shop that they owned, and idly talked among themselves.
One of them hushes the other two when Harren enters their sight. The first man points to her and whispers, "Look, there's the other one."
The second man looks to the first, "Why do you think she's here, huh?"
The third man hasn't taken his eyes off Harren. "They've been coming in of late, ever since we holed up that thing."

Harren was clueless to what the people talked about, she had only just got there. 'Hmm? What are they babling about?' She thought as she kept walking
The third man holds up his hand to hush the other two, "I think she heard us..."
All three men pretended to be busy until the stranger was out of sight. One of them examined the crate that he sat upon. Another looked down the main road as if he was waiting for someone. The last man made flirtatious air-kisses towards the ladies washing laundry.
Past the village square, there were more houses and shops. Finally, there was the end of the village, which was surprisingly sealed off by a large stone gate that towered over Harren and the man that was leaning his back against it, his arms folded across his chest.

"What is this place?" Harren asked looking up and down the large gate. "I really know nothing of this place..." Harren sighed a bit.
The man leaning on the gate leaned foreword and spoke up, "This is Willisen. It's our village in the middle of nowhere." The man quirks his mouth into a smile. "There's not much to tell. Though it's best if you didn't go wondering outside the village at night. Been a lot of strange happenings around here." The man's gaze slowly drifts off to the overlooking fortress. "And a lot of weird people too."
"Like what? Im one to enjoy stories sir." Harren smiled and went a bit closer to him, waiting for him to spill more to her. Was there more of her own kind, vampires or ghosts?
The man scratched his head, looking skyward to try to recall as much as he could. "Well, for one, old Miss Greengritch lost her dog. So we mustered up a search and found it near the old fort. Or what was left of it." The man shook his head. "Dang pup went and found itself something that didn't like being pestered. We searched the fort and reached the basement. Didn't go no further." The man shudders. "Something was sleeping down there. Something hairy and big." The man pauses. "So we sealed off the basement and got out of there." The man nods, having made the right choice.
