The time had finally come! The bi-annual Champion Tournament was going to commence! Over fifty candidates had been picked or had volunteered to be involved in the intense battle of survival. The winner got riches, and was excluded from the Champion Tournament runnings for four years. In a battle where it was survive or die, all would do their best to become the champion.
Each candidate was with their own personal trainer, gearing up for the beginning of the big event. They all had had very little time to prepare, but each of them hoped it was enough. Aliens and humans alike were getting fit with gear and padding, hoping to have some protection for the beginning of their fight.
As for weapons and supplies, all was in the arena, spread out over various locations. Survival supplies, weapons of every kind, and packages of food, were scattered throughout the biome. Tensions were high as the time for kick-off neared. The techs were making sure the weather was as they wanted it, the cameras were working, and an anxious audience waited with their eyes locked onto the holoscreens.

Inez sat with her trainer, Auster. They both had finished a mini session of exercises and training and all that was left now was to wait. She propped her elbows against her knee's and sat there, staring ahead while he talked with her. She was not even sure what he was saying, to be honest.. Her mind was in several different places for the moment, jumping from topic to topic. This event.. It was always so stressful. She absolutely despised it. She hated being here, she hated the mark she was given and that it practically signed her into this for life [or til death] and she hated the people responsible for it all, but she could not simply refuse to compete after being chosen. That would mean giving up, and that would lead only to her death. At least while competing she had a chance to fight for her life..
Auster looked to her, frowning. "Inez." He spoke deeply. He was tall, at least 6ft. He was of some alien race. Inez never bothered to ask him and he never bothered to tell. His face was harsh, almost insect like, but hinted slight human features here and there, but the lack of ears, hair and a nose really destroyed the possibility of such a thing. "Inez." He spoke louder, hitting her in the shoulder. "This is no time for you to day dream." He said harshly.
She blinked back into reality and looked to him with a small bit of shock. "Sorry." She held a voice of confidence, but seemed.. bothered. "Just thinking about it all." She admitted. He shook his head. "That is fine, but you can't be doing this during the competition. Your life is on the line here and mistakes like that will lead to it being cut very, very short." He chided her roughly as he looked over her.
She was very different from when he first met her. She had longer hair then too, though she was wise enough to have it shaven down to a simple crew cut before the tournament. She was a strong woman, slightly independent, but one would have to be during a tournament like this. Teamwork was not forbidden, but there was only one winner to this. It was a very deceitful game, overall.
Inez was average as most human's were, the only thing that set her apart from others was her strange turquoise eyes. Her hair was black, shaven to a crew cut and her skin was somewhat tan. She may have been from Polynesian roots, but it was hard to tell, really. She did not speak with an accent, or at least not one noticeable. The mark on her left shoulder was small, though over time she had gotten a very tribal-esque tattoo around it. Overall for the competition she chose a simple outfit. A light tan jumpsuit, combat boots and wrapped gauntlets. It was light weight and provided minimal padding.. There would be more that could come later, but for now.. This was all she could literally afford to wear.
"You better be ready for this." He said, a strange clicking came from his neck followed by a slight hiss from within his suit, as he turned to look out to the others. She nodded her head a little, glancing to him with a strangely bold smile. "I am.." She had no real choice, otherwise.

Rixy watched her trainer intently as the older, more experienced woman paced back and forth, giving last-minute advice. She was honed in, waiting, listening, committing everything to memory. The five-minute warning came, and Rixy got to her feet and stretched. The girl's darker skin was shown in several spots through the outfit she had chosen. Padding slowed you down, especially if you could fly like she could. The darker color of the outfit also helped with blending in, night and day.
"Alright, Rixy. This is it. Make me proud out there. Give 'em hell. Remember what they want. They want a show. You can't beat 'em, so join 'em. Give 'em a show, and show them that you're the best." Rixy clasped hands with her trainer. "Count on me. There's no one better suited to give them a show!" Rixy grinned, then walked to the cylinder transport that would take her to the arena.
Each of the contestants were taken to their starting areas. A small square area that they were safe in until the beginning of the tournament was announced with a loud siren. Rixy stood in her area and looked around. Her wings were not visible for the time being. She was able to make them come and go as she wished. A group of twelve contestants could see each other from each starting point. So Rixy was looking at 11 other fighters nearby. In the center, amidst the contestants, was a short stockpile of various weapons or supplies.
The siren sounded.

Inez stood after the five-minute warning came. She glanced to Auster with hints of a frown. He slowly stood and looked over her. "You'll do okay." He said, giving a bit of encouragement to her, before he pulled her into a hug. He was more than a trainer to her. He was a friend and this may be the last time they would see one another.
She bit back wanting to protest against his hug. She didn't want it to get too sentimental and destroy any concentration she had, but the hug was accepted and she kept it for a few moments, before sighing. "Thanks, Auster. For everything." She nodded and pulled away. "Give them hell, Inez." He said, throwing his fist up.
She kept her back to him, reaching the cylinder that would transport her to the arena, closing her eyes as it closed around her.
She ended up next to Rixy, and while she was more focused on eying the stockpile, she did manage to look to Rixy. The girl was able to keep her attention for some time, what with the colors of her hair and the horns there. Her hair contrasted nicely with her skin.. It stood out, but too much and overall was a very nice contrast. The siren sounded and Inez snapped back into reality, turning from looking to the strange hybrid girl and ran for the stockpile. The objective now was to get out of this area without being stabbed or shot in the back.. That generally happened quite a lot. Especially to those who were greedy for a specific weapon. You could not be picky, only lucky.

Rixy didn't look at anyone else much. She got a lock on where everyone was, then focused on the pile of weapons and supplies. She looked at it intently, and when the siren went off...she turned and ran the other direction. It was a battle to the death, and the foolish ones wanted the weapons as soon as they could get them. It was a slaughter-house near that pile, and Rixy felt that she would be able to find a weapon somewhere else. They were all throughout the dome, after all.
Rixy's feet took her through the forested area that they had been started in. She didn't let her wings out even now, just focusing on getting away for now. She had to keep that ace up her sleeve until she needed to use it. There were shouts and cries as the battles waged between people. Rixy herself knew that she was soon going to run into someone. She had to get herself into the right mindset.
The mindset to kill.

Inez was not focused on finding a particularly good weapon, or really finding anything that was extremely useful. She just wanted /something/ and to get as far as possible away from the pile and the people around it.
Already there was bloodshed, and someone had been stabbed. Inez continued to run, vaulting over the one who had been injured and slid over the top of one of the crates, rolling onto the ground in front of it. She got back up to her feet and scooped a pipe up off the ground. Likely something that had fallen off the pile. She did not bother to turn around to check the others, rather she took her pipe and continued running. Already someone was after her.
He gave chase, trying to catch up to her, but she definitely was not stopping. Already there was regret in going for the pile.. She could have been like that one girl, who ran the other way, but nooo! She had to get her hands on something that may get her killed.
As he drew close, she went over in her head what she would have to do.. She spun around, taking him off guard and swung hard for him. He did not have a large weapon, rather a bloody knife. It would figure that she get this guy, out of them all, to be the first to trail her.
He slid to a stop, rolling out of the way, just missing having the pipe slammed into his shoulder and arm. He attempted to get back up to his feet after his roll, but Inez did not waste time standing there and instead took off running through the tree's, leaving him behind.
The male was not done with her, but did not give chase this time, rather he got back up to his feet and took off in the opposite direction. Her time would come soon enough..

Rixy knew it was only a matter of time until she ran into someone, and she was right. She ran off through the forest, only to have someone walk right into her path. Holding a machete. Rixy planted her feet on the ground and used it to spring herself into the air, spinning over the attacker. The machete nicked her arm, but she kept going. She hit the ground behind the woman who had stepped into her path.
It only took a moment of debating. It was time to give them a good show. She dropped down in a crouch and lashed her leg out to knock the woman off her feet. The woman rolled over onto her back, but Rixy was quick to punch her in the face a few times and distract her. Then, that machete was grabbed.
It was the moment of truth. Could she really kill someone? But now wasn't the time to think about it. Because if Rixy didn't kill this woman, this woman would kill her. She could see it in her eyes. The machete came down, splattering her in blood. She got up and wiped it off, and wiped herself off. She stared down at what she had done. She had taken a life.
Noises nearby jolted her out of the stupor and she turned, running off through the forest again. She had to stay vigilant. It was a matter of life or death.

She had gotten turned around.. or maybe she had not. The forest looked the same in every direction so it was really hard to tell. She just hoped that she was not heading back towards the stockpile. That would be a really crappy way to get through the day. Escape from death only to run right back into it.
'Luckily' for her she was not running back towards the stockpile, rather she was running farther away from it and up a hill, at least until she came up on a rather abrupt drop off. It was weird because the tree's were so tall, that it looked like the ground continued. It took her by surprise when she reached the top of the hill, only to fling herself to the ground below.
She tucked and rolled, slamming into the ground with her shoulder and rolling down the incline, until her body finally stopped, by hitting something else hard. Well that was dumb. It was a very stupid mistake that she would not be making again.

Rixy was slammed into by some sudden, unknown force that knocked the legs out from under her. "Ooof!" She fell flat on her bum, wincing. It only took her a moment to realize that what had ran into her legs at the bottom of a drop-off was in fact, another contestant! Mumbling a stream of curses she had certainly gotten from one of the more alien species, she scrambled to her feet and started running. She was not going to risk her life again so soon, against a sudden unknown opponent. She needed to find weapons and supplies first.
Inez remained tucked into a half ball to keep herself mostly protected. She was so shocked that she had actually ran into another without even thinking. The cursing was regarded as she slowly got back up, watching the figure run off. It was that one girl who ran the opposite direction, which totally was a smart move.
She cleared her throat and got to her feet, looking down and shaking her head. If she had been just a few minutes earlier, she'd probably be very dead.. Twice now she has been lucky, but that would probably run out.
Her pipe was missing and that was a problem, especially since something from the nearby thick brush, begun moving and making sounds. A stout bodied creature pushed it's way from the brush. It was about the size of a large boar, had large back legs and strong front legs. It's form seemed to be missing it's neck, so it was body then directly into the head. Even that looked very strange. It's body was scaly and covered with thick plating on the back, while the underside was soft. The head narrowed towards the front of the mouth and it looked like it shouldn't be able to open it so much.. That was at least until a deep hiss came from it and it's mouth opened, splitting in four, each portion was covered in layers of small, but dangerous teeth.
Inez's eyes narrowed and she slowly backed up, further behind the tree, before turning and running. This is not how she wanted to die.. Not at all. She yelled in panic as she ran
The beast wasted no time, having already caught onto her, it lunged and begun chasing.
She tore through the forest floor as fast as she possibly could, looking for anything that could deter this beast.. or at least somewhere to hide from it. She scaled up the side of the hill that she had fallen off of and took off running again, trying to put as much distance between the creature and herself.
The entrance to a cave, or what appeared to be one, was not too far from her and was exactly where she was heading..

Suddenly, Rixy dropped down from the sky, right behind Inez. A blaster was in her hands, and with it she shot at the big creature that was charging for them. She was a sure shot, steady and unwavering. When faced with a crisis, one had a way of overcoming nervousness. And after the first kill, it was easier. "Damn that's an ugly bugger!" she said, shooting until it was dead. Mainly she focused on the head and legs, to at least kill or incapacitate it.
"Man, I hope there's only one of those. It's gross."
"Man, I hope there's only one of those. It's gross."
Each shot to the beast did damage, enough to slow it down. The legs being taken out was a big thing and it's hulking figure came sliding to a stop before them, unmoving at first, at least until it begun thrashing about, giving a sickening hiss to them, trying to get them with it's split jaw. It was wounded, but very much alive and if given the chance to get to it's feet again, it was still very dangerous.
Inez was on edge the entire time. Another contestant was here with her, and had saved her from the inevitable, but still.. they had a gun, the aim of this game was to win and.. It did not sit right. While she was grateful that her life was not ended so soon, she knew very well that it could be, but she was not going to be foolish enough to attack her savior, considering she had nothing to attack them with. She coughed a bit and worked on catching her breath and working through a plan of some sort.. Something at least had to be done
A deep intake of breath was taken, before she reached forward, taking Rixy's wrist that did not hold the gun and attempted to pull her along. "Come on, we don't have much time!" she announced, hoping that she would not be shot in the back for this. "To the entrance. It probably wont be able to get through to us if we are inside."

Rixy pulled away when she was grabbed. "We're not going to get far if we don't kill him. You gotta learn that fast." She stepped closer to the creature and aimed the blaster at it's mouth. Best to shoot the opening and break things apart from the inside. And that was just what she did.
When the writhing creature finally finished and died, she would drag the body off into the bushes. Then she went into the cave. "Alright, now let's go." She glanced at the girl. "I'm Rixy. You don't look like you have much of a chance of surviving, so I'll help you out. No offense, but someone like you doesn't seem like a threat to me. Not weaponless, at least."

It made her feel like a child.. She didn't have a weapon, so she was thinking more on her level. Not having a weapon meant she was not going to touch that thing as it was.. If she had her pipe with her, then she would have already been caving in it's skull that way, but the point was, she did not.. And for her, getting as far as possible probably would have been for the best, but what Rixy did, did not obtain any complaints from the woman, rather she stared with a strangely blank face.
She pushed through the entrance with her and moved ahead, stopping when she spoke again. She seemed a little distant, turning to stare at her with the same strange blank face. "Yeah.. none taken." Inez was pretty decent with hand to hand combat, she probably could hold her own with someone who had a weapon that didn't fire a projectile of any sort, but even then.. Without a weapon she was still defenseless against the creatures that lurked this place.
"I'm Inez." She sighed a bit and pinched the space between her brow. "It's uh.. Nice to meet you, I guess." There really wasn't any way you could say I'd rather we didn't hang around one another without it sounding bad.. And it sounding bad could very well get her shot. She did not stick her hand out to shake the others "You're the one who darted the opposite way.. and tripped over me earlier." She thought about it and nodded. "Nice.. You've done well for yourself." she nodded towards the gun. Inez wondered how many more shots it had left or if it even ran out, but she did not voice such a thing.. she had already said enough as it was.
With feeling somewhat foolish and vulnerable to death, she turned to investigate further into the cave. It was already growing darker as she progressed, but after a moment her eyes adjusted properly and she was able to see well enough to get around. She wouldn't be able to hit too deep, but she could at least try and find something in here to use as a weapon. She did not know if Rixy could see her or even see anything in here, and she didn't really care.. Inez was not initially comfortable with accepting the help of someone who had a 'better weapon' than her. Mainly because the intentions could be all too sour..

Rixy listened to her and smiled. "Nice to meet you, Inez." She would take the hand and shake it. "Hey, I have a proposition for ya." She walked along with the girl, frowning as things got darker. "This is a game, right? A show for the fancy people who don't have anything better to do." She stopped walking and smirked. "So what do you say we team up? Give them a show. We'll watch each other's backs, kill everyone else. IF it comes down to just the two of us, which is a big if honestly, then we'll just fight to see who the better warrior is. But until it would be just the two of us, we'd be a team. What do you say?"
She laughed softly. "I know this is kind of sudden and surprising, but I want to give them a show they won't forget, right?" She smirked. "Let's make them rethink this stupid tournament. They think we all have to go one-on-one, a dog-eat-dog world. They think that nobody can create a bond because of lack of trust. Let's prove them wrong and stun them all."

She paused and stared at the woman when she took her hand and shook it. If Inez had a weapon, it would have been driven into the other woman.. But she did not, instead she was still and staring with her strange eyes. She could see things just fine. "I am listening." She said quietly, looking back out to the darkness.
It was a promising idea.. Teaming up with one who could fight. Inez just wanted to survive all of this and perhaps go home and rest for a while.. It would be nice, but teaming up also meant that at the end, they'd be at one another, aiming to kill each other.. While it could be done, it was not just as simple as it sounded. What if they became friends, or more? What if they were at an end for it.. Inez did not exactly want this, but surviving was a better option.. She'd have to worry about everything else later.
"It sounds reasonable enough." She admitted. "I'll agree to it.." It was survival, she didn't like it, but this was where it had to be. "How far into the dark can you see?" She questioned, looking over the area, then back to her.

Rixy smiled and shook her hand. "Great! Don't worry, things'll be fine. It'll work out sooner or later, huh?" She looked down into the cave and pouted. "Um...not far. Not as far as I would like. Why, can you see really well?" She took hold of Inez' arm gently. "I guess you're leading on then, huh? I'll cover our rear too, to make sure we're not followed. I can't see, but I can sure hear if someone's trying to sneak up on us. Besides, if I'm in the back I'll be the first one attacked anyways." She gave a light laugh.
"I'm sure they will." She said slowly as she progressed further into the darkness. "I have enhanced low light vision. I can see very well at night and in dark places.. As long as there is a small source of light nearby. For now the mouth of the cave is providing a good deal of light for me to see. It wont last long though." She admitted. "Does your gun have any lights on it?" She questioned. Any lights would be fine, no matter how dim, it would help out a lot.
"It makes it so that what I see, is.. sort of like a well lit area, rather than a dimly lit area. So all of this" She waved her hand between them. "Is clear to me. I can see the colors on the walls and the details around me." This meant a lot of good and bad for some people.
"How many shots does that have left?" Finally her favorite question~

Rixy considered the weapon in her hands, looking at it even though she couldn't see. "Hmm...I don't think it does. It only gives off a light when it fires, but I don't want to waste shots. I think I have a glo-orb, though. It doesn't give off much light, but for you it should be really good." She considered the last question carefully. "I'm not sure. It depends how long the cartridge lasts. Some have a good charge, gives off plenty of shots. Others have weak charges and don't give off many shots without needing to be refilled."
"That would be nice." She replied, stopping to inspect the area around them. She didn't exactly see anyone down here.. or signs that anyone had been here, but that did not mean that someone was not. No, certainly not. It would be fairly easy to be snuck up on in such a place. Luckily one of them did have a gun..
"Lets hope you have one with a good cartridge." She said quietly, picking back up to continue. "I need to get a weapon." It would be nice, to be honest.. She had nothing but her fist for now, and while that usually was ok, it made her uncomfortable to not have something. "Maybe I can get one down here, but I am not so hopeful."
