Elenora stared at the bowl of candy in front of her, fishing out the best pieces and putting them aside. She was too old to go out and too young to party so her parents left her in charge of the candy dish while they went out with their friends.
Not too many kids came out anymore, too many parents taking them out trunk-or-treating which was even stupider than trick-or-treating was, in Elenora's humble opinion. She flopped down in the overstuffed chair her father had brought closer to the door and grabbed her cellphone to scroll through instagram.
She took a quick selfie, carefully choosing the best angle to get her Wonder Woman costume. It was the same as the year before, but she had tailored it to show off her legs more and she had fixed the head piece so it looked better. She kicked off her boots and opened a Kitkat, munching on it.

Halloween was always one of those interesting times of the year for Pixie. She had always gotten super prepared a couple days earlier since she liked giving out baked goods and more personalised treats rather than buying candies at the store. However, that was not going to deter her from roaming the streets on the arm of her husband while taking their twins out to go trick-or-treating.
Misri was good enough at home with the others to give out all kinds of goods and keep the oven going for more batches that Pixie left the team with. When Pixie had expressed that she may stay home, the others insisted that she and Beltrán take Luthias and Alonzo out around the neighbourhoods to actually experience Halloween now that they could walk and talk.
Pixie had dressed them up in the costumes they had wanted that year -- Alonzo was in a terrifying(-ly cute) Umbreon onesie that he saw in a magazine and that his mother sewed together for him. Luthias, on the other hand, wanted to be more like Sir Aaron, the legendary knight of Cameran Palace, and an Aura Guardian, at that -- a costume that took Pixie some time, but still managed to get sewn and stitched together.
Pixie herself had a rather modest faerie's outfit -- her husband would tease how 'Pixie dressed as a pixie' for this year's festivities. It was a long flowing pink garb that turned to a deep red closer to the end of the gown. Translucent-esque wings were 'at rest' on the back, and Pixie had her hair up in a french braid with a faux flower crown of forget-me-nots and peonies.
Approaching one of the less crowded houses, Pixie and her husband stuck close to their kids as they ran up to the door and rang the doorbell twice.
"Remember to say the words I told you two. Those are the magic words to get candy!" Pixie said, crouching down next to her two boys momentarily and then straightening back up. Both Lu and Al were excited and giddy, their expressions wanting and filled with a kind of joy that both Pixie and her husband were warmed to see.

Elenora stood up, rolling her eyes when the doorbell went off the second time. She opened the door with a quick yank and leaned out. The pile of good chocolates was visible behind her, but the bowl still held some good choices.
"What do we have here?" She looked down, but honestly, she didn't care.

"I'm a Umbreon! Breon!" Alonzo said, putting on his best 'grr' face as he acted out being the Pokémon.
"And I'm Sir Aaron! He's a prince!" Luthias said, beaming as he and his brother lifted up the plastic buckets for the candy. Luthias was a little more excited, and said 'trick-or-treat!', Al a couple seconds late with the delivery, therefore the delivery being very out of sync.
"What are you, lady?" Alonzo asked, pointing up at her.

Elenora tossed a piece of candy into both their buckets. She didn't really find them cute or anything, but even rude teens knew that you shouldn't hurt kids feelings by being a jerk.
"I'm Wonder Woman, the greatest superhero in the world!" She smiled a bit, truly believing that, "Do you like super heroes?"

Lucy couldn't but stop at the sight of another lost individual. She smiles sweetly at her, but frowned before climbing up the steps. She wasn't really wearing a costume, but her clothes were so ragged she looked like she could be undead or something along those lines. She took a few moments to breathe and pace at the base of the small set of stairs, but took a deep breath. She was just passing through, so talking wasn't bad: she convinced herself of this as she finally stepped onto the last step. "I take it you don't like people watching?"
"Yah! I love superheroes!" Luthias chirped, waving his plastic replica of Sir Aaron's staff excitedly. "I never heard of 'Wonder Woman'. I head of... Gliscor Man! And... and... GenGirl! My favourite is Rapidashtress! She can run really fast, jump super high, and she can't be burned!"
"Aw, shut up, Lu! The best superhero is Raikman. He can make storms and tornadoes!" Alonzo snapped.
This caught their mother's attention as she walked over with a bit of that look of a mother on her face that said she was sorry for their commotion.
"Alright, boys. Let's let the magnificent Wonder Woman treat more people for Halloween. She's gotta be out fighting crime later..." Pixie said, shushing her twins momentarily and ushering them off the porch gently. She looked back to Elenora with a small smile while nodding a 'thanks' before turning back to her husband and getting the kids on the track to getting more candy.

While he certainly looked to be in costume, none who knew him would think he was as such.
And with boots that heavy, it was a wonder he hadn't been heard approaching the house. In fact, the fact that he hadn't even been seen! There he was leaned back against the house, one leg crossed in front of the other with head bowed forward. A dozen hollow, chocolate orbs wrapped in gold foil were being juggled between his hands with almost lazy ease, consuming the entirety of his attention as he waited for the front door to be vacant enough to approach it himself. Each one sounded as if it were filled with something or another, but it was a touch muffled. Whatever it was was difficult to discern.
Soon as the family departed he tipped his tricorn down to catch each of those orbs within his hat one by one until it was filled to the brim, approaching the front door to rat-a-tat-tat his knuckles along musically.
"Oiya! I'm 'ere to be barterin'. My goods--" Glance spared down at orbs within tricorn. "--for not-quite-so-goods. I'm sure quantity'll make up for quality, though, don't worry."

Elenora waved to the children and was about to close the door when she noticed Jest. She nodded her head slowly, trying to figure out exactly what was in the balls.
"Trading?" She prided herself on her intelligence in all situations, but this was too far beyond her own experience for her to catch on quickly.

Tricorn was flicked upwards, all twelve balls flying up into the air. With nimble flicks of his hand eleven were caught in the bowl of it, while the last landed upon the tip of his thumb and sat there just fine.
"Ayep! Anythin' less would be charity, 'n my ego don't permit beggin' for anythin'. Goods, services or mercy." Fingers snapped together, sending the wrapped chocolate ball flying up and onto the tip of index finger. From there it rolled along the length of his arm up to his shoulder, behind his neck and vanished. Hand closed and, with a flick of his wrist, reopened to reveal it sitting pretty on his palm. Whatever was inside of it rattled the entire while.
"Now, as y'can see it's a -very- special treat. All filled with wonder, oomph 'n snazzery. What would you swap me for a prize such as this?" He tried to steal a glimpse at whatever was within candy bowl. "Bigger bein' better, mind you~"

Elenora was quite confused, confounded, and perhaps somewhat unsettled, "Uh, all I have is the candy in the bowl." That was a lie, there was a few more choice pieces behind her, but those were hers. She takes a handful of the chocolate bars and offers them to Jest.
"This enough to trade?" She was not sure why she kept talking. Her brain was getting muddled by all of this.

Chocolate bars were assessed with the same keen eye a jeweler might afford a precious gemstone, looking for flaws or signs of fraud. A few seconds later and she earned a nod of approval. "That's proper 'n fair to me! You've got yourself a deal."
One hand grasped the side of his cloak, tugging it aside to reveal dozens of pockets along the inside. Tricorn filled with orbs was nestled up against one of them, and when it returned it was empty enough to receive chocolate bars like a fancy halloween bucket. Gold-wrapped chocolate sphere was offered to her when she offered the bars, with a face to follow. "Pleasure doin' business with you, you 'ave a safe night, now. 'n remember, in case you need it with some o' these critters struttin' about--"
He was silent a moment, to glance back at a group passing by along the street. "Cold iron for fae, th'brain for zombies 'n tax forms for leprechauns. Keep that in mind 'n you may yet last th'night, I'll be a scream away if th'hordes descend upon you~"
With a wave, he turned to depart down the pathway with his haul. Should she peel away the foil, she would find a chocolate ball covered in Skulls'n'Crossbones. And should she break it open or bite into it, she would find a sweet strawberry bonbon. Sucking on it or biting into it, however, would stain her tongue and lips with pretty, shiny iridescence. Seems he dabbled in tricks and took treats.

Elenora did not eat the chocolate, but instead put it beside her on the ledge, trying to understand the interaction she just had. She shook her head and closed the door, settling back into her chair. What she needed now was a new trick-or-treater to take her mind off of that interaction.
Ah, but be careful what you wish for... No sooner than Elenora settles herself back into her chair to wait for new trick or treaters than there's a colossal explosion on her front porch. A mushroom cloud of musty, green-yellow fog erupts in front of her door, and in the center of it appears a colossal snail, fully three feet tall.
The creature appears to be mid-sneeze at the moment that it manifests, and accidentally smashes its face into the doorbell, leaving behind a smear of opalescent goo. The hard impact startles the creature, and it retracts into its shell with an audible shlurp. A wailing voice can be heard echoing from inside the shell.
