Forums » Introductions » Hello

I'm kinda new to the whole concept of forum roleplay. My name's A11_Th3_S4m3, but go ahead and call me Cosmic for the sake of that being easier to type.
I've been roleplaying for just over a year, and in that time I've honed my skills to be one the best that I know of. Back in my home app of CG (ChatGum), I was one who conformed to the stereotype that third-person-past-tense meant you were one of the better ones in the community, and that style has stuck with me. But, with the increasing difficulty of the character limits, and the decrease in literate, descriptive, and accepting roleplayers like me, I find myself here.
Despite everything I've said, I am NOT that good. I lose track of story elements, am easily overwhelmed, and get bored with both stories and characters quickly.
One of my favorite genres of RP is tragedy and horror. I like putting my beloved characters through absolute Hell. I like showing how they react to major trauma, and, even if the character dies, I find that, since it's a work of fiction, they don't have to stay dead!
My original introduction to roleplay was by a guy who went by the name 'Riko-San.' He was a moderator on CG by the time I had begun to develop my skills. I wish I was still in contact with him, he was incredible.
This concludes my introduction, feel free to contact me anytime, for just about any reason.

I said just about.

No, I won't send nudes... You're dumb for asking, and I'm dumb for acknowledging the question.
Hi Cosmic, welcome to RPR! :)

Ooh, I am the same!

XD Don't worry, this isn't Kik, no one will bother you with requests such as that. That sort of content is illegal here, even in PM.

Happy to hear that.. it was the norm back in my home app.
Which is part of the reason I left. Thank you for the warm welcome :3
Hello and welcome to RPR! I hope you make lots of friends and enjoy your time here!

What. This isn't even making any sense. You're just introducing yourself here, you don't know the site, and no-one would ever ask anything like that from you here. So why are you preemptively calling people dumb?

No! As I said in my earlier reply after MSochist, people asking that from you came with the hobby. Heck, there were people who just entered random rooms and said 'i need girlfriend'.
So this is a legitimate concern of mine.

Hello Cosmic. hope we can be good friends. while i've been RPing on other things for some time, i know what it feels like to be overwhelmed over it, so, once we do the RP together, i will do my best to help you out if needed. anyways, i hope we can be friends.

Welcome to the site!

If anyone ever asks you to send nudes here, please don't hesitate to use the "report" link on the message. The moderators will take that extremely seriously. It's not okay.

That said, third person past tense is very much the norm around here, although we try to be accepting of all RP styles as much as possible. :) I think you will find that you fit right in!

When it comes to starting RPs, most people start in the Looking For RP forum to find some other players. There's also a search tool that will help you find what you're looking for within that forum - click "Find RP" in the top menu, then "join game" then scroll to the bottom to adjust your preferences for game types. If you want more info on using that search tool, here's a handy help article.

If you end up joining someone else's RP, they'll let you know the details about how to join in.

If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
  1. You can just create a RP topic on one of our 3 public RP forums: General Roleplay, Sci-Fi Roleplay and Fantasy RP. Keep in mind that because these areas are public, you'll have to make sure the RP stays in the PG-13ish range.
  2. You can choose to RP via private messages, and just create a new conversation thread with all your RP partners as recipients. Since this is private, the only rules that tend to apply are not to do OOC illegal things and be nice to your RP partners OOC.
  3. If you're going to have a whole lot of people in your RP, or the RP setting is going to be very strictly defined and you want to have a place to store world building information alongside it, you might consider starting your own group. This gives you access to profile building tools for the group, but also to creating your very own forums!
  4. In some cases, you and your RP partner might even decide to use some other messenger or game to RP on.

By the by, you can use the "launch chat" button at the top and bottom of any forum topic, whether it's in a private group forum or our public RP forums, to turn your topic into a real time chat! There's also a link in the sidebar of private messages that will let you do the same.

Welcome Cosmic! I'm sorry you've had such poor experiences in other places, but as everyone has said you won't be bothered by that here. :) And if you do, just follow Kim's instructions and report them!

Have you found anyone to play with yet? :D

Hi and welcome to RPR!
Hey there, welcome to rpr!
Rather in depth account. Brevity may be the soul of wit, but protracted anecdotes simply must to be the spirit of a good writer especially when done so, and I know this sounds awfully antithetical, in a succinct manner. lol. You seem a bit jaded, but that can yield amazingly sage insight! When expressing one's self via text, as a ubiquitous annoyance, nuance can utterly fall to the wayside. You employ emphasis via capitalization and I appreciate that as I typically do the same thing since using stressed/unstressed notation is a gaudy and relatively tedious task to continuously undertake.

I, too, am new to the concept of forum roleplay. I'm hoping that it'll be a blast. I'm more accustomed to 1v1 sorts of role playing (not to suggest that forum rp means >1v1), but acclimation doesn't have to be a bad thing at all.

Welcome!

Lol - how can you "presently" be dumb for answering a future hypothetical? If it's a future hypothetical, my apologies and 'nuff said. I don't do the whole "nudes" think either. Beyond extreme dysmorphia I don't see a point. There's plenty of whataver anyone wants to find out there already.
