I have a question for all you RP Reposipeeps!
For a long while now, if a gallery image is being hidden from a notifications feed due to having potential mature content the viewer has not marked themselves as "comfortable seeing", it has taken the form of the See No Evil" monkey:
With improvements to gallery widgets around the corner, I'd like to revisit this icon. I don't think it's at all clear what it represents or why it appears, or why a person might want to exercise caution if clicking it.
What kind of icon do you think would work better to communicate that a gallery image has been hidden due to potential mature content?

My mind went to an 8-bit heart icon with devil's horns and tail - keeping the nerdy in and warning of obvious naughty content.
I think something straight to the point might be a little better. Something that is only an image with no context, especially for someone's personal character gallery, would prove confusing.
I suppose if there were an image, I would just recommend a mascot or character with a sign or speech bubble that says something like "This is mature content." or something along the lines of that.
Or maybe just something that has a text that just says: "this is potentially mature content".
I can't really think of anything that conveys that solely with an image that is not somewhat suggestive, or inappropriate.

Maybe an M for Mature over the RPR shield, keeping with the theme of the site sorta? :>
Edit:
The shield probably shouldn't have all the details in it if it includes the M, but the shape would still fit the theme anyway!

I like this idea!

I second this vote.
I agree that the monkey isn't super clear! Maybe ...
- an exclamation point
- a circle with a slash through it
- a circle with a horizontal dash, like a minus sign, that doesn't meet the outside of the circle
- skull and crossbones
- just the RPR shield logo with an explanation on mouseover

Why not just keep it simple and make it a larger version of the lips that is used for profiles already? Sounds easy to implement and leaves the meaning pretty clear as well.

The only issue I see with this that there are some people that also upload gory items as well. I'm not sure about certain uploaders, though I make sure to mark mine as 'mature' for the content of it being bloody and usually gross by most people's standards.

i think i'd prefer something along these lines. better to avoid misinterpretation and accidental clicks! these symbols are all clear warnings something's up.
perhaps though, for a little flair, it could be a literal 'mature flag' - a flag with one of these symbols on it?
What about a "stop" hand gesture? That springs to mind as a "hold up, mature content " warning.
The big ol' M sounds swanky too!

Another possibility that's a little fancier would be to run the actual adult thumbnail image through a blur/pixelization filter!
However, I don't recall what happens when you click on an adult image that's thumbnailed... or what it looks like in a gallety that's set to "full size" mode. Does it show the adult image, or the monkey graphic?

At present, it just displays the full size image. In the next iteration, it will show a dialog that explains the image might contain mature content, and lets the person choose whether to show it or skip it.
We probably won't do the blur thing just because server space.

Strong language is another reason that images can end up marked mature.

Fair enough!

Then how about a sign like this, tho obviously much less crappy.
The problem with that is that images may be mature for reason other then erotic which wouldn't fit the heart and horns.
Something like this?? Maybe with inverted colors (brown shield and white letter) if this is going to be too hard to see? Or with a dark brown outline, even.
