Hello everyone! For the past couple weeks I've been casually working on a comedic setting for a pen and paper game called "Candylance." All the tooth-rotting sweetness of Candyland plus the high fantasy shenanigans of Dragonlance.
The kingdom of Sucrosia is divided into five provinces. Cocoria, homeland of the cocoas; Crumbleford, homeland of the gingerfolk; Jellensia, homeland of the mysterious gummies; Sweetdrop, homeland of the lollies and host to the king's throne; and Mentholia, homeland of the frigid and magical mentholians.
I already have a good number of details planned out, and hopefully I'll get to posting more of them later, but I'm curious to know what you guys think. Any details you think would work in a setting like this? Places, creatures, customs?
For example, there is the Sassafras Sea, an ocean of root beer speckled with icebergs of vanilla ice cream, and the Mellow Marsh, a hot cocoa bog where marshmallow sheep are frequently herded. The Order of the Spice Drop consists of gingerbread knights tasked with the safety of Crumbleford. Meanwhile, in Cocoria, there is a social hierarchy based on cocoa content, with white chocolates being the "untouchables" at the bottom. There are gummi wurms and Swedish fish, and of course the threat of the evil Licorice Empire (better name to come) looms over all of Sucrosia!
It's more of these sorts of details that I want to populate the world with, so if anyone has any ideas, lay em on me.

Awesome. I can't help thinking of the Sugar Rush game from Wreck It Ralph. There should so be some oreo guards somewhere, maybe in Cocoria, that reference Wizard of Oz with their "oreo, orrrrroooo" chanting, those guys were my favorite lol.
Jellensia should totes have a forest with ferocious gummy bears. You already have gummy worms so why not?
Maybe the Licorice Empire has a color hierachy? Black licorice is the royals and red licorice is peasants. The blacks don't always treat the reds fairly, so when they invade the rest of the world, some red licorice people turn against their homeland and fight for the side of good?
And if you ever need a map made...you know I'm taking map commishes

I'd love to chat more about the Jellensia homeland and her people!
Possibly the rarity of certain color/flavors and how they relate to certain positions within the kingdom? (Playing off of how there is always more of certain colors)
Perhaps the lands contain a vast ecosystem to cater to all the gelatinous forms of life? (Gummi Bears/worms/etc)
Lemme know if you wanna chat here or via PM.

Please do vomit all your ideas here!
The flavor of the gummi doesn't have anything to do with rank. However! Sapient gummies may attempt to commune with a feral gummi of the same flavor in attempt to calm them! And yes, there's all kinds of gummi life--gummi people are regarded as a little wild because of their close association to the ferocious beasts that roam the land. Some cocoas even think of gummies as a lesser people, leading to some friction between them.
And ah yes Dragoncat! There should definitely be Oreo guards in Crumbleford!!
So, I especially need ideas for crops, plants, monsters, and animals! The current flora I have are candy corn, redvines/twizzlers (they grow like bamboo), spearmint trees, Runts trees, and kinoko! For fauna, I have a wide variety of gummies, marshmallow peeps and marshmallow sheeps (which look just like regular marshmallows), the salmon-like Swedish fish, chocolate bunnies that lay Cadbury eggs, and crows which are the eyes and ears of the licorice empire.
A friend suggested Anisians, since classic licorice gets its flavor from anise.
Also, just... holy crap.
Also, just... holy crap.
Crumbleford DOES sound better for the oreos than Cocoria.
Why not nerds? They can be little annoying fairy...things. They hop around and cause mischief.

Crumbleford and Cocoria do share a border!
And that is a fantastic idea for the nerds!!

Oh. Yes. YES~
So are the Gummi people more tribalistic in culture? What kinds of tools and dwellings do they have? Do they, as a race, have special properties and skills individual to them? Strengths and weaknesses that set them apart?
Gumdrop/spice drop trees and bushes and stuff. Because yes. u_u
Woke up this morning with these ideas.
In Cocoria, a Reeses mountain range. The valley below the mountains forms the border between Cocoria and Crumbleford, the Mallow marsh drains into it and forms the Smores canyon.
The oreos patrol back and forth between Cocoria and Crumbleford, across bridges on the Smores canyon. The oreos, being cookies, are native to Crumbleford but relations between it and Cocoria are friendly. Sometimes the chocolate people will give messages to an oreo to take to the cookie people and vice versa.
You said there's a hierarchy in Cocoria, so I'm assuming...dark chocolate is royalty, milk chocolate is middle class/soldiers, and white chocolate is peasants/farmers? White chocolates are the ones that raise the marshmallow sheep, right?
Hate to be a parrot, but I'd love to make a map of this, when you're ready, hit me up!

This is looking AWESOME Heim! Aw yeah on the mentholians - on that note I continue to suggest you avoid actual brands names of candy. I know you're probably not going to do anything with this where it'll matter, but somehow Cadbury eggs, Swedish fish, Oreos, and the like feel distracting and a lot less charming. It imposes too much of 'real world' ideas on your glorious world of candy, plus makes it lean more towards maybe too much resembling Sugar Rush.
THAT ASIDE, a jawbreaker gorge, a volcano area of hot candy (the cinnamon range maybe), a jungle of sour candy (lemon drops into forever), cotton candy fields, something to do with bubble gum (awman already got a bog - a bay or beaches?), caramel and butterscotch need love too. The Caramel Caves? I could do this all day, OH NO.

I can see your point, but I disagree. It doesn't distract me to have real world brands, it's just as charming with them. It could very well be connected to Earth somehow...maybe on another dimensional plain or something to that effect where the sweets on Earth are actually a nod to this world. It's just for fun, right? Although the swedish fish might have to be renamed or something, since this candy world probably doesn't know of a place called Sweden. Idk.
Before I respond, lemme say this: I love ALL youse guys.
@Virus
I imagine the gummies somewhat like wood elves. Regarded as closer to nature, but usually not barbaric, except by some of the cocoas. They'll have a dexterity bonus and the ability to commune with feral gummies of the same flavor. So they're geared towards rangers, druids, etc. I don't plan on putting a TON of thought into their languages, cultures, etc betond the basics.
@Dragoncat
For the cocoas, that's sort of what I'm thinking, but pushed further. Cocoas can have a wide range of chocolate content, from 99% to 0% like real world chocolate. Because the white cocoas have no actual cocoa content, they are in a completely separate caste. They can't fraternize with those outside of it.
As for the map, I'm working on one now!
Also, digging the idea of some kinda Smores canyon!
@taroo
I see your point, but I think keeing brand names adds to the humor. For example, Jellensia was almost called Hariboria ... a hybrid of Haribo gummi bears and Hyperborea And calling Swedish fish "gummi fish" has less punch. And the twizzler/redvine rivalry! And it's the little things, like "Atomic Fireball" being the most powerful fire spell.
That said, there absolutely is a cinnamon wasteland in the south to match the ice cream tundras in the north! I really wanna know what to do with bubble gum. Maybe it forms near the molten candy area and pockets of hot air make it puff up, forming natural actual bubbles that float around for a while. Yees ... as for caramel, I might do something like the La brea tar pits! And butterscotch, NO CLUE. Also, jawbreakers are gonna be used as weaponry So they totally an be mined from a gorge in Sweetdrop.
I also just thought up "the Straits of Ramune" which just sounds so damn legit, lmao! Also, rock candy jewelry errywhere.
So, do you guys have any ideas for things like weaponry and armor? This WILL theoretically be a P&P game.

Gummi's comprise of Druids, Rangers and the occasional Barbarian. What of Witch, Summoner, or Shaman? (Mage classes; I can almost imagine a Gummi-man summoning a giant Gummi-bear right out of the ground! )
Would they have a secret language all their own besides the established common tongue spoken elsewhere, sort of like the Druids do?

I have an idea: why not a forest located between Cocoria and Crumbleford filled with Pocky and chocolate pretzel trees? And the almonds on the Almond Crush Pocky trunks being a harvested crop or mineral? Maybe the "wood" from the Strawberry or different flavored Pocky (like White Chocolate Pocky) is valuable for building or decorating gingerbread manors and cathedrals in Crumbleford, as well as the salted chocolate pretzel trees?
Ooh, oh! Or the harvested sticks could be used for Pocky spears with almond spearheads! Or chocolate pretzel arrows with salt-laced arrowheads for that extra sting. Just a random thought.

Should we discuss armor, weapons and special materials they can be made from?
Like peanut brittle knives, gummi rope whips, sour acid bombs, fruitcake hammers, ice resistant peppermint bark tower shields

Yes, this is one of the things I really wanted input on! I know that most average clothes are made from woven cotton candy. There's also the thicker pieces of fruit leather made from the thick hides of the fruit rhinoceroses. As for armor, there are mint hard candy lifesavers that are turned into ringmail, as well as the more flexible but less protective gummi variety. For weapons, I know there are going to be jawbreaker maces (it's so perfect!), lollipop shields, and rainbow spiral pop lances. Pieces of twizzler will be braided into whips as well, and warheads are incendiary devices. I am seriously digging sour acid bombs and fruitcake hammers
I have more where that came from!
Fiery hard cinnamon candy swords, licked candy cane lances, entangling gum ball bombs, rock candy crystal armor, edible magic candy amulets (necklaces), pixie stix choke dust, quick cooling hot chocolate shells (a combination of alchemist's fire and a quick drying cement), hard candy caltrops
