''I helped him out by using the remains of a cape I wore. It was dark blue with a weird pattern on the back.''
Sterling paused again. "What kind of pattern?"
Elder describes the complex pattern to Sterling. ''I had the cape on after I woke up outsude the hospital. Why I had it, who knows. I was too drugged up to see how it looked fully. Like an H with fancy swords around it.''
"It could have been used as some sort of tracking or summoning spell, that's why I asked. But swords aren't used in either case. Swords are used to cause harm or damage." Sterling shrugged and hitched his pack higher. He started to pat down his side and then stopped. He remembered that he didn't have the canteen and sighed. Man, he missed that.
''I also had a sword next to me when I woke up..''
"A sword? So they wanted you to fight him, probably. Or something. A sword on a cloak and next to you." He rubbed his head, something not quite clicking for him. "What happened after you freed Cerberus?"
''He handed me a charm, said it allowed us to communicate. He was in a hurry to get away, and that was the last I heard of him.''
"So you don't even know if he still has the other end of the charm?"
''I don't know if he does, but theres a chance.''
"Then I guess there's no choice but to check. Can you do so without calling him here? Or is it a one-time use thing?" Sterling really didn't want to do this without holy water, but there was little he could do. He'd just have to hope that nothing horrible came from the other end.
''He told me back then that it would work constantly.'' And Elder hed out the charm. A hellhound tooth made of black chrystal. It pulsed lightly, then a dark wave scattered out from it as it released a calling signal.
A howl sounded far off in the distance.
A howl sounded far off in the distance.
He couldn't help it; the object itself was dark with energy and the howl made him jump. His hand tightened around the hilt of his sword, not unsheathing it but ready if he needed to. Just because Hybrid was a friend to it, did not mean the Cerberus would think of him as a friend--quite possibly the opposite.
"How long does it take?" He started to ask.
"How long does it take?" He started to ask.
Within an hour a dark Cerberus aoppeared before he two, chains rattling from it's feet. Blue eyes stared out harshly, from the stray blue stripes over its feet and nose. Three heads all eyed Sterling, but the beast seemed to have no intent on attacking him. Hard to say, though, for it had fangs. Vampire fangs. Unphased by his pose, the Cerberus stepped forward roughly, thick tail moving slowly.
''Hello.'' It spoke roughly, looking at Sterling. Not to hurt him, but seeming curious about who he was.

Sterling braced himself but didn't attack. "Hello," he said through gritted teeth, glancing briefly at Hybrid.
For the first time in his life, Sterling had no idea what to do. And he hated that feeling more than Silenia's ooze.

''Why was I called?'' The Cerberus asked, fangs visible at each word. Elder shoved Sterling forward, snorting. ''Theres the Cerberus you were wondering about.'' Elder inquired.
The Cerberus looked Sterling. ''And who are you, and what do you want?''
The Cerberus looked Sterling. ''And who are you, and what do you want?''
Sterling's face turned white, but he gamely held his ground when Hybrid shoved him forward. "Uh, I'm Sterling--but I don't mean you or Hybrid any harm." He dropped his hand from the hilt of his sword. "I wanted to know how you two met...and to warn you that Hunters will be more actively searching for you and Elder."
The Cerberus spat out a medal from one unfortuanate hunter. ''Who said Hunters ever got past to killing me? They don't fare well, for silver hardly hurt me.'' He hissed, fangs still showing. ''I met Elder after hunters hemmed me up in a corner and had a gun pointed at my face.''
Sterling couldn't help it; he caught the flash of the medal before it hit the ground and turned his head to look at it. He grimaced. Definitely a Hunter's medal.
"What happened then?" he asked, returning his eyes to Cerberus.
"What happened then?" he asked, returning his eyes to Cerberus.
''Elder came in quickly and chopped their heads off. I have him a tooth I made and left before more came. Hunters that try killing me lose their medals for shame.''
Sterling grabbed for the pendant around his neck and came up empty. Right, he'd given it to the Hunters who had waylaid them. He was safe for the moment.
"That makes sense. How'd they manage to capture you?"
