Darkness just looked at Sterling with a weak smile. ''Vampires..Never die. They just...Appear at the a-l-ltar...'' He choked, then collapsed with a thud, blood pooled at his heart where bullets had hit. He was still smiling even as his fading blue eyes shut, eventually falling silent and limp. Nothing but a smirk on his face with a map clutched in hand that opened. A map of the town.

Elder stirred, groaning in pain, in his human form and bandaged up. ''Urrgh...I'm..Not dead?'' Elder said, confused. ''But those hunters shot us pretty bad..'' He choked.

Sterling wasn't a man of tears. He didn't do tears. The image blurring before him was due to pain lingering in his body, not because the demon had just made a fatal mistake in arming a Hunter and Sterling wished he hadn't. Although he did wish he hadn't.

Sterling rubbed his face carefully, ignoring the moisture and pretending it was blood. It was probably blood, he'd been shot. And bandaged. He stirred when Hybrid Elder spoke. "Not dead either. He...he didn't make it though."

Sterling saw the map and rolled over to grab it before someone else could take it. "He mentioned something about an altar?"

Elder winces, standing up shakily, then he looked at Sterling. ''Are you..Crying?'' He dared asking, then looked at the map. ''The closest altar is miles away. Why is it important?''

Sterling glared at Elder, no sign of moisture in his eyes. "I am not crying. I'm simply trying to work out the pain and...deal with stuff."

He looked at the map in his hands. Damn it. This was why he didn't get attached to people or things and especially demons. Darkness had scared him--why was he sad now that the demon was dead? Well, maybe not sad; more like...depressed. He'd missed out on taking the demon down himself. Right. That was his story and he was sticking to it.

''Well, you were terrified of him now your all sniffly. Whats the altar supposed to hold? I awake to see dead things and a slain demon that saved us after I saved him..'' Elder said, looking at the ground. ''He wasn't a pure demon..''

Sterling glanced at Elder. "I saw him get shot, repeatedly, by another Hunter. And then I stabbed said Hunter with a knife. My life as a Hunter is over." He scowled. "And he mentioned getting reborn or something at an altar? What do you mean not a pure demon? Can you read this map?" He tossed it to Elder.

Elder caught it weakly, snorting. Then stared at the map as he opened it. ''It's a hunter map....Darkness was an uncover hunter....This map shows the Altar being several miles westward.''

"You think we can make it that far?" Sterling eyed the crossbow and knew he wouldn't be able to use it. The strength he just didn't have to load it or fire it. And he'd be lucky to swing his sword. Maybe daggers would be best.

He groaned as he got to his feet and then retrieved the dagger embedded in the dead Hunter's stomach. He wiped the blood off on the dead guy's shirt. "Let's just start walking. I guess we'll find out soon enough."

Elder nods, and heads to Altar the best he could, still wrapped in bandages. ''Darkness knew he would die...But that smirk creeps me out.''

"You mean it's not the first time?" Sterling asked. His brow twitched at the idea and at the memory of what he saw.

''Well, Darkness is a creature that has Siles curse. He can die, but he is resurrected at an altar. He'll still have his chest shot out for the first few minutes, but afterwards it'll be like nothing happened. Weird, True, and Freaky.'' Elder inquired, shuddering. ''Darkness is creepy. He's beyond a maniac.''

Sterling growled something under his breath, but not loudly enough for Hybrid to hear. "Whatever, let's just find him."

After about a week had passed they arrive at the altar to be greeted by Darkness. Darkness was barely awake, as his movements were sluggish. Still a Werepyre it seemed. Darkness looked at Sterling lazily. ''Told you I'd be back.'' He snirked, snorting then laughing.

It was his attitude that pissed him off. Sterling didn't even hesitated, walking straight up to the demon with a glare. "Do you know what we went through to get this far? Do you?!"

Sterling stuck Darkness with a dagger, not enough to kill him, but just enough to cause pain. "That's for making me kill a fellow Hunter and marking myself as a traitor."

Dark yelps and cringes in the pain, but still kept his smile. ''If you hate me so much them kill me.'' Dark retorted. ''Pain a curse thta you soon grow used to when your a hunter too. I help you escape and this is my payment?'' He hissed, eyes turning a dark shade of red.

"Help us escape? We nearly died! And you were stupid enough to give a Hunter the opportunity to kill you. You're right, I should kill you." Sterling met the dark red eyes and then buried the dagger a second time into Darkness' hide. He wasn't sure if it would kill him, but he wouldn't care if it did. The not-quite-full-demon would come back after all. Unlike Sterling's fellow Hunters who were permanently dead.

As luck would have the dagger hit his heart and he yowled in agony and collapsed, hacking up blood. ''You felllow hunters aren't fellows if they tried to kill..yo..u..'' He choked, gagging.

Elder flinched, and looked away.

Sterling watched as the half-demon collapsed again, and then wiped his dagger clean. He didn't exactly put together the whole "fellows aren't if they kill you" thing--and wouldn't probably until the creature resurrected itself.

"Right. Well, now that that's taken care of..." he slid the dagger back into his boot and took stock of his injuries. They had healed well in spite of traveling though he was still noticeably slower in his attack strength and speed.

Darkness fell silent, limp once more. Something shined from his neck, from a blue string attacked loosely.

''Even if you kill him, he'll be back...I'm sorry about your partners, Sterling.'' Elder said, grimly.

Sterling scowled and stopped himself from picking at a scab. "It's not your fault. The idiots should have heeded my warning." But that didn't really make him feel any better. And worse, he knew if their roles had been reversed, he probably would have fought to his last breath. Well, would have if he hadn't already fought Silenia and Hybrid Elder.

He saw the blue cord around Darkness' neck and drew closer to lok at it. "I'm in it deep. I'm not sure I can be of much more help to you, Hybrid Elder."
