''I'm still alive and kicking, all thanks to you.'' Elder inquired, smiling lightly.
The cord was loose fitting, but looked weathered and frayed at the edges. A pendant made of the skull of a snake entwined in small but sharp silver spikes. Silver. With two dark blue and small gems as the eyes of the snake.

"Yes, well, it's mutual. I'd've been demon chow or diced Hunter by now if you hadn't come when you did."
"Has your friend here always had this pendant?" Sterling asked suddenly.

Elder looked, frowning. ''I've never seen it. It's hidden in his fur. What is it?''
Sterling shivered but didn't touch the pendant. "Snake skull with silver spikes and what looks like blue sapphires for eyes. Never seen anything like it, and I really rather not touch it." After all, who knew what kind of dark energy it held. Although it was too bad that Sterling had lost his own pendant. He'd have liked to compare the two.
"Kind of reminds me of my own pendant though." He sighed wistfully and then shook his head. Enough of that; he didn't care to show off. He lived simply to keep the streets clear of demons. Well had lived. Now he wasn't sure what he was going to do.

''Well, I bet that pendant was stolen. Did any hunter you ever meet have one just like it?''
Sterling started to shake his head and then paused. A distant memory rising from the depths of wherever he'd left it. And his skin prickled uncomfortably.
"Actually, there was one hunter who wore his own fashioned pendant. He wasn't able to earn one from the guild and claimed it was a stupid design anyway." Sterling's face darkened. "His name was Relan. I haven't seen him in a while. If that's his pendant though... God, I hope he's not turned into a demon. That would be worse than anything else I've encountered so far on my travels." And that was saying something.

''Maybe Darkness is his pet?'' Elder joked, staring. ''I didn't see it on Dark when I first rescued him, as he was in a hurry to get away from hunters.''
Sterling's face turned white and he sat down heavily. "If that's the case, I'm not the only one the Hunters would be hunting down. If Relan has such a...pet...he would be banned from any Hunter collections he may earn."
He rubbed his face. "What is this world coming to?"
He rubbed his face. "What is this world coming to?"
''Darkness could know something about the hunters...Did he mention anything about them the first time he died?''
"Not really. Just that they were cowards if they didn't kill him; the usual demon-hunter banter that occurs." He looked up at Hybrid. "Has he ever told you anything? You said he didn't have it before hand when you first met. Can you tell if he's acting any stranger now?"
''He sure does act like everyones the weakling. You saw how he doesn't care if he dies. The old Darkness never wanted to die, and would do whatever he could in his power to avoid it. It's like something is controlling him.''
"Something...controlling him?" Sterling's eyes landed on the pendant and he grimaced. "I'll show that two-faced Hunter a thing or two." He unsheathed the dagger from his boot and cut the cord free, letting it slide and snake its way down Darkness' neck and chest until it pooled at the ground. The pendant landed with a solid thunk.
"Let that be a lesson for Relan. Wherever he is." Sterling sighed and leaned back. "So how long does it take him to heal, er, come back?"

''Usually an hour.'' As Dark groaned and stirred, the stab to his heart making weird noises as it sealed back. ''Urrgh....I hat this life....I hate it...'' Dark gagged, shutting his eyes tightly and cring. Still bleeding badly, but it was slowing.
Sterling was silent, watching and trying not to cringe. Actually, he was trying not to feel bad for the demon. Half-demon. Whatever it was
He looked down at the pendant and picked it up, careful of the silver spines.

The pendant was somewhat lightweight, but the skull was real.
Darks coughs violently, then winces again and opens a bloodshot eye and looks at Sterling. Then the pendant, then Sterling again. His ears pin back, his fur frizzes out, and he spreads his charred wings.

Sterling saw the change in Darkness and promptly offered the pendant back to Darkness. "Is this something of yours? How'd you get it?"
Dark stood and snatched it back, before he quite sinple walloped Sterling across the face hard enuough to leave a bruise. ''Don't touch my stuff! How I acquired it is none of your buisness.'' He hissed, flinchimg back and holding the pendant close.
He never saw it coming, though he probably should have expected it. He reeled back, clutching his face and blinking the stars from his eyes as he tried to recover from the unexpected blow.
"I only ask, because I knew a Hunter that had a similar pendant." Sterling replied between gasps of pain. At last he could see normally, though his face hurt worse than getting suckerpunched by a Master Vampire.

''And who would that hunter be? One of your betrayed friends?'' Dark hissed, shaking his paw in hellborn pain. He also had broke a few bones from the slapping movement. ''I was given this pendant by a hunter that said it was special.''
Sterling growled and let his hands curl into fists. He didn't strike back, but he wanted to.
"Relan is no friend to Hunters or to Demons. If you have any ties to him, you'd be better off eating him."
