Well, that backfired as the slug landed right on his eyeball!

Sterling managed after a good hearty yell, to pry the slug off him once again and hurled it as far from himself as possible.

He was swearing up a storm, before he finally calmed himself enough to realize what just happened. His face turned red and without any additional comment, he stalked to the stream and washed his face. Keeping an eye out, of course, for those treacherous slugs.

''You ok Sterling?'' Jenna chuckled.

"Yes." Sterling rose after sufficiently washing his face. "Everything is fine. I'm going to head back to town and keep an eye out for anything going bump in the night. I've had enough of..."

He sighed and swore again. He just remembered he would have to cross the swamp of slime frogs again.

''Your going to leave us, just like that..?'' Jenna said, her ears hanging slightly. ''Theres also another beast in the swamp. A phantom.''

"And the mutant gerbil," Sterling added and turned to look back at them. "Look, no offense, but of the four of us out here, Elder and I are the least able to protect ourselves. You, Jensara, and Darkness will be much better suited to taking care of whatever else lingers out here at night. That, and I'd really rather not be caught here at night when Darkness goes all hell-bent on destruction."

He hitched his trench coat higher on his shoulders. For what it was worth, he shouldn't have been with them in the first place. But they had helped him. He hesitated briefly and looked down at the ground. "I am sorry. You've helped me out and yet I am unable to repay you."

Jenna turned away, then disappeared into the shadows, to hide away from humanity as she once had. Knowing that she'd never be able to escape the clutches of hunters for much longer, and sure hoped none were hiding in the shadows.

Elders tail drooped, as he rubbed his neck. ''Yes, but if you had never met Silenia then our meeting would have never happened. Our small meeting would have never existed. We met for a reason, a reason that I have not been able to answer. Fate. What brought us here? We killed some Masters, but something else is still out there. Dark met you because I was his friend. If he goes haywire, then no ones here to try and calm him down besides me. I want to stay and help him, why not you?''

Sterling didn't look up for a long time. "I am a Hunter, Elder. The only reason I met Silenia was because I meant to slay her. What happened after that...was poor decision making on my part. I've been cast out of my guild. I no longer bear the necklace of my guild. I am-" His voice caught and he looked at Darkness and then Elder. They needed him and wasn't he there to help people?

He couldn't just leave a rampaging demon on the loose. Even in the woods. When he spoke again, his voice was soft, defeated. "What would you have me do, Elder? How can one hunter and one experiment contain Darkness?"

Elder walked over, limping, and set a clawless hand on Sterlings shoulder. ''If we can defeat three Master vampires and live to tell..'' He looked at Dark nervously. ''Then we can calm the toughest opponent of them all!''

Sterling flinched at the contact and then followed Elder's gaze to Darkness. Chains wouldn't work; rope was out. Tranqs might be the only solution, but he was fresh out. He only had stakes.

And then the idea struck him like a thunderbolt out of the blue. "I-I think I might have an idea...but I'm going to need some help executing it. First off, we're going to need an eel..."

As if on cue Elder glared at Zap 'Zappy' Slimeel who was slithering onto a rock nearby. ''Theres that one from earlier!''

"I just hope that Darkness is still susceptible to the zap." Sterling saw where the eel was lurking and he made quick work of throwing his trench coat over it. A little insulation never hurt anything; he just hoped it worked or he would be demon food.

The eel squirms about in the coat, zapping it madly.

Sterling pounced on the trench coat, really glad now that he had stakes between him and the zapping eel.

"Alright, so if Darkness loses his cool, we'll just throw this on him and hope it affects him in his blood-red moon phase." Sterling looked up to the sky overhead. "But we've got a while yet and I'd rather not play keep-away with an eel. Elder, you got anything we can use to keep it...around?"

''Theres a bowl made of tall glass in the river you could use.''

"That'll work." Carefully moving with the eel in his trench coat, he found the bowl and then dumped the eel into it, covering it with a piece of wood so it couldn't slime or jump its way out.

He then looked at his coat and sighed. The interior was coated liberally in slime. "Great."

The eel hissed, flailing about madly but not getting anywhere in the bowl.

''Well, at least it didn't shock you?''

Sterling snorted. "Yes, true." He rinsed his trench coat off and then shook it for good measure to make sure nothing else had crawled up inside. A crawfish came flying off the sleeve, landing with a splish into the stream, and then he relaxed.

"Alright, now that that's taken care of," Sterling turned to Darkness, "What can you tell me about your, uh, upcoming condition? Any advice, suggestions, concerns?"

''Well, in my monster form I have four horns, and I can't see anything. My tail is like a whip, and it can severe tees and arms. I have odd runes on my arms, or so I've been told. And I apparently drool.''

"So blind and deadly. Runes on your arms?" He frowned and looked now at Darkness' limbs. "I'm not sure if holy water will be of much use for those." At the rate he was going through holy water, he was going to need to bring a priest with him.

"Do you get bigger as well? Or do you stay the same size?"
