''I apparently get to about the size of a bear.''
Sterling nodded. "Okay, that's not too bad. I've fought worse, and survived." He looked around. "I guess we'll be safe enough out here to avoid any wandering villagers, so I'm not too keen on going anywhere." Besides that, the mountains nestled on either side of the Vault would give plenty of shelter should Darkness' alternate form become too much for Sterling to handle.
''How much longer until night?''
"Eight hours? Maybe ten? We should rustle up some grub. I'm hungry." He looked around for his pack and then went to it, opening up the flap to dig through the stuff he'd brought.
Dark looked around then dived into the stream to catch some random fish.
Elder rubbed his sore arms, then went to examine some rocks that glowed.

Sterling produced some food, mostly dried meat and some fruit that didn't look too bad; an apple only slightly brown and bruised. Kind of like himself. He bit into it with gusto and sat down with his back to the tree after looking up first to make sure nothing would drop on him from above.
He'd had enough of slimy things for a while, and he was perfectly content to watch Hybrid and Darkness do their thing while he looked on and contemplated the intricacies of life and death and mutations.

A sly feral fox ran up and snatched his apple away quickly, tiny armor clacking about as it ran off afterwards.
Sterling jumped when he felt something grab hold of the apple in his hand. He'd just been about to bring it forward to bite into it, when something grabbed it and tore it from his hand.
"Hey! That's mine!" Sterling turned to see the fox running off. Scowling, he settled back down. "That's an apple, you know, not a mouse." He grabbed the dried meat he had put aside and began to eat that instead.

It stuck it's tounge out and starting nibbling on the apple. It had bag with a cross on the front around its neck, and some pendants of garlic around it's feet. It also had a small-sized falchion in a holder on it's side. The armor fit well, but this fox didn't look normal.
The fox wasn't slimey, so that gave it pointers over everything else that Sterling had encountered so far. He regarded the strange creature, noting the strange bag and pendants.
"You're not a normal fox, are you?"
"You're not a normal fox, are you?"
It looked at him sternly, then held it's small falchion in it's mouth by the handle and cut the apple in half. The uneaten half rolled over to Sterling as the fix slid the weapon back into it's holder. It did have bite marks on it's feet, but they seemed old. It wasn't a vampire, but it's light fur was frizzed out and dirty.
Sterling picked up the half of the apple that had landed near him, but he didn't remove his eyes from the fox. He did draw his knife however, and used it to peel the apple skin, even though he'd been eating the apple normally prior to the fox's arrival.
He did notice the fox's bite marks. "Did you get into a fight recently?"

''Several vampires attacked me, but I easily kill them.''
Sterling raised an eyebrow. "You...killed them? How?"
The look the fox gave him seemed to state that it probably wasn't a good idea to ask as its side was stained in dark red ash along with a bottle of holy water in a case.
"Oh." And then he couldn't help it. A smile spread across his face and then he began to laugh. Imagining the fox taking on a couple of vampires was too much, even for Sterling and a few moments later, his rich laughter rolled across the vault.
Mor tossed it's falchion quickly, and it landed painfully in Sterlings right leg with deadly accuracy. ''Dare laugh at me, hunter?''
Sterling's laughter stopped abruptly and turned to a pained cry as the blade embedded itself in his leg.
"What are you?" Sterling demanded, carefully grasping the falchion and withdrawing it from his leg. He winced and pressed his hand to the injury."You shouldn't have done that! I was just laughing."

''Laughing at how I do my job is foolish. One does not simply laugh at a skilled high-ranked creature, despite their stature. I was raised by hunters, and taught how to speak by them. You seem to think that a small fox as I can't kill, but I can. I am a fox, obviously. You were laughing so hard you didn't even seed the falchion untilb it was too late. Are you really a hunter..Silver?''
"Well you didn't exactly give me any reason to think otherwise!" Sterling groaned. And then at the mention of his fake nickname he growled and threw the falchion at the fox. "Hunters don't attack other Hunters."
