Dark cringed. ''Mom has a new bow of yours broke? Oww...My ears...'' He choked as Silver,Jenna and Elder crined a bit too.

"But...this one worked so well..." he murmured, before catching that all three of his allies were cringing from a sound.

"What is it? What do you hear?" He scrambled to his feet and wavered for a moment as the blood readjusted itself to his standing.

''Pained cries hurt.'' Dark hissed, rubbing his ears. Jenna snorts, and aims the bow at Sterling playfully. ''I found it in a hunters house.'' She inquired.

"Oh, is that all," Sterling relaxed until he saw the bow aimed at him--and then he flattened himself into the grass. "Watch were you aim that, woman!"

He picked himself up again, wincing as his arm protested the rigorous movement. "Let me see it."

She giggled and handed him the crossbow carefully. It was armed with silver tipped bolts and looked well used.

Sterling gingerly took the crossbow, keeping the end pointed at the ground. It was a little lighter than his other one, but only by a pound or two. It fit his grip a little different, but then maybe he was over-analyzing it.

Suddenly he raised the crossbow to his shoulders, sighting for a tree that wasn't anywhere near anyone, and fired. Ka-chunk. He grunted as the arrow soared past the target and hit a tree further to the left. Well, no matter. He reloaded the crossbow and then offered a small smile.

"It'll do; thanks."

She nods, smiling lightly. ''I have more use for my claws and not crossbows.'' She replied, her dull claws brushing against her loose hair where crooked horns could be seen poking out. ''Werewolves used to rarely come out until their population began to get too high. They even attack during the day, without care of who is around. Hunters have a hard time killing them without getting bit, huh?''

Sterling grimaced and flexed his injured arm. "Well, we're in a dangerous line of duty, so it's not uncommon to get bit. Most Hunters though travel in groups so it's harder for them to get bit. I was...stupid, for letting myself get so close."

''Well, it's really our fault for still lingering here. We need to leave before my husband attacks. Those Weres were part of his 'gang', so to speak.'' As her eyes gazed around nervously.

"Fantastic," Sterling muttered, wrapping his injured arm with the rest of his tattered jacket. The thing would need replacing soon, even without all the abuse it had taken with claw marks and fang tears. It had been slimed beyond recognition.

He sported the crossbow in one arm, and kept a wary eye out. "Hybrid, you stay close to me. Darkness, if you could take point, and Jensara, the rear...that'd be great. Let's go."

And thus he prayed that they made it out of the vault, alive, unslimed, and otherwise unharmed by werewolves.

They headed out with ease, appearing at the marsh of terror once more. Only something had scared the frogs away.

Sterling breathed a sigh when he saw no more slime frogs, but he knew better than to think the coast was clear. "Let's keep moving, please?" he murmured to Jensara, noting the lack of movement around them. Even the animals had taken cover, and that wasn't a good sign.

Jenna nods, and her group start to lead on until a growl sounds.

Wincing, Sterling turns and aims his crossbow in the direction of the growl, using his injured arm to help steady his aim. It's not pleasant, not by far, and he's ready to shoot anything that even starts to come near them.

"Show yourselves already!" Sterling yelled. "I've been through hell already--you might as well send me back!"

....

A rabbit hops out, carrying a growling toad.

Ka-chunk.

The bolt sailed effortlessly through the air, slicing readily through both toad and rabbit.

''..You killed a rabbit and toad.'' Jenna squeaked.

Sterling grunted his nonsensical reply as he reloaded the crossbow systematically, only to find he couldn't even draw back the string. His injured arm protested too much.

"I...I just wasted my only shot." The look in his eyes was of utter shock as he came to the realization that he had literally nothing to defend himself with. And a trio, er, quartet of demons around him. And who knew how many werewolves beyond them.

''Well, you have us to protect you.''

Sterling hesitated. He really didn't like that thought. He really hated being the one protected, because he was used to doing the protecting.

"Alright, thank you." He did have a knife at least, but that wasn't going to last him at all. His best bet would be to climb a tree, but again, with his busted arm, he wouldn't have much of a chance.

Darn it. He knew things would turn out badly. "Can we keep pressing forward?" he asked after a moment. "I'd really rather not linger here." He felt exposed and, well, vulnerable.
