It had been two years since the meteor had been destroyed above the earth... The dust cloud that remained passed over the sun, and covered the earth in a dark red light.
that light brought death. For 2 weeks, the dead rose, attacking anything that moved in front of it. No way to stop it, but to hide and pray for it to end... This continued to happen. After two weeks, there was 5 weeks of peace, if you could call it that. Then, the cloud would return, and hell would begin again.
Two years of hell, and no way to stop it. Noadays people call that period zombie season. Everyone learns how to fight, and the week are rarely coddled. Only the biggest and strongest cities still stand in the US...
This is the life we live in.

Jumping over the low wall, the remains of a building, Katherine looked left, then right. She was cautious as she moved. She had seen it, just outside the main wall of the city. She knew she shouldn't slip out like this. It was dangerous to be out this far with a group - much less alone. She was always alone though.
It did her no good to make friends. Only allies. People who could fight well beside her.
The glint of the knife attracted her attention again and looked around, bending to pick it up. She was in danger from raiders, and worse, out this far - but this knife called to her.

The city was built like a baracade. and with so much wall, it only made sense for there to be one entrence. That being said, the knife HAD to be far from the front gate. Night was falling, and the red haze in the sky promised ill tidings, as it always did.
The knife was a good one. It looked like it had belonged to an old hunter... that being said his remains were probably sculking around somewere.
Nearby she heard footsteps, real ones, not the shufle of undead. Through the bushes, and in the dim light, she saw him. A tall fellow, dressed in black. His long coat looked dusty from teh road, and he had a one band backpack over his shoulder. He seemed to be heading towards the gate.
Speaking of which, they would be locking soon.

Katherine started for the gate, giving him a nod as she slipped it into her belt loop. The pants were loose on her, so much that they made her look twice as large. She walked backwards, eyeing the stranger. She had a strange dance to her feet as she walked, careful to keep from stepping on pieces of stone and debris.
She turned, walking quicker, wondering if this man would be a friend.

The figure raised a hand in greeting, she could see he had on some sort of bracer and fingerless glove.
"Yo. You from the town?" he said, nodding to the high walled structure. Funny, he looked like a traveler, but he had no apparent weapons.

She nodded, "Yep. Lived here for quite a while." She played with her hands, a nervous sort of person, it seemed. She frowned, "You just comin' in or somefin'?" She fixed the knife on her hip, ready to defend herself.
"if possible. I'd rather not-"
Suddenly a siren went out. She would know what it meant, the gates were closing, a zombie was sighted. The man frowned, turning and looking.
"Here they come..." he said, rolling his shoulder a bit.

A long drawn out curse word escaped her mouth and she pulled out her knife without a second thought as well as a second one, hidden in her sleeve. For the moment she seemed unprepared and then a creeping smile stretched across her face. She bounced lightly, a crazy look in her eyes.
The man didn't notice her, as he flexed his arms, and the sound of metal leaving metal was heard. Clack clack...
Two zombie suddenl rounded the corner, moving fast in their hungry shamble. One jumped for the girl, the other for him.
CHINK! SKLORP! A pike on a chain left teh man's wrist, embedding itself in the zombies skull. With a heave he twisted, and slammed the corpse intot he wall.

Katty aimed both knives at the zombie, one near the neck, the other towards the stomach. She didn't have much strength to her thin body, but what she lacked in physical ability, she more than made up for with insanity.
She tossed her weight towards the monster, growling. Pinning it to the ground she jumped up, grinding her boot into it's mouth, breaking it's jaw open further. She laughed again, this time louder, looking down at it, spitting on its face.
Why didn't they like letting her outside the gates, again? She couldn't quite remember.

"Woah woah! Easy tiger." His hand touched her shoulder. "I think you caved in it's chest... You might wanna clean your boots later."
She kicked her boot, muck flying off of it, "Eh, they're good boots. Wash off real easy like. Are you okay?" She pulled her knives out, looking for a place to clean them up - suddenly she was more concerned with her knives than getting back inside.
"Eh... ok... hey shouldn't we like, get inside or something? I mean... I'm pretty sure-"
Gunfire was heard. Not far off too. Zombies were hitting the ground, some of tehm getting back up.

"They might let us in if we're fast, but I doubt it." She looked him over a moment of clarity hitting her, "Either way, we need better shelter." She took off running, not even looking to see if he followed.
The man ran after her, and the sounds of carnage could be heard. Ahead they saw the gates, and they were closed. Already a pile of corpses were are the front door, and the gaurds above were sniping.
"Get out of here! No entree!" One of them shouted, spotting them. The man frowned, then looked around. "Ok, temporary teammate, we need shelter fast. Suggestions?"

"Do you trust me?" There was a strange sound in her voice and she offered her hand to him, "Because you might regret it if you do, but I know this area better than anyone. I belong out here." She had no emotion while she spoke, laughing again, her eyes darting this way and that, keepnig an eye out for threats.
"Fortune favors teh bold. Yes, I trust you." He took her hand, a firm grip. "Lucia, pleasure to meet you." In the dark... she could see his yellow eyes. In the low light... they almost seemed to be glowing.
She paused to look at his eyes and then took off running, holding his hands still, "Kate. Katherine. Katty. Katie. Kat. Kay. Call me whatever." Her voice was full of glee now and in her free hand she held onto both knives with an easy grip, "I lied. I don't live in the city always. Sometimes they forget to let me back in. Lots."
"Katie... Cool." he kept up with her easily. Now that she heard him close, his voice sounded young, close to her age.
"You don't say... any reason why for that?"
Gunshot. Now another scream. They must have missed one.
