My RP adventures started almost 30 years ago. Most of my experience has been with table-top play, but i have done a lot of chat RPing as well. I miss having a group that gets together regularly to play. Lately though, I have been doing little to no role-playing. Mostly because I have had a hard time finding players. As I have gotten older, life has also gotten in the way sometimes.
My hopes for here are simple, to meet new people with new ideas and to get RP back into my life. RP, to me, is about having fun with "What If?" And part of that fun is how different people/characters/etc respond to those what ifs.
I prefer Fantasy and or Science Fiction for my play, but not exclusively. I do try to keep an open mind for new possibilities. More important than the genre is the players. Players make and break a game. Good and active players can take a bad system/setting and create something great from it. The reverse is also true.
I am not sure what else to say for the moment, but feel free to ask questions or give advice. I know I am a bit rusty and for the moment, I will be doing a lot of reading and checking things out. So far I like what I have seen, the friendliness especially.

Sanne: Thank you, I hope you are right about RPR and I being a good match. As for ideas about why I have difficulty finding people to play with, I have a few.
I think the biggest reason is that my personality, what I want out of RP and even what I think RP is about, does not mesh up well with "newer," "younger" RPers. I do not think it is a right/wrong way of playing issue, I think it is a bridging gap/difference of opinion issue. I am a "this is my character, this is the situation, lets see what happens" sort of person. I have a very hard time with "this, this and this are what we are playing out."
Combine that with having been playing more years than some players have been alive. In my experience, that tends to intimidate. Or at least that is what I have been told.
I have other ideas and examples, but I think those are the biggest. That and I have to head home from work, so my time to type is being cut short. I am very open to more question, feedback if there are any.

Welcome! I'm sure everyone is delighted to have a new member of the community! I too love group roleplays, but usually it is very difficult to find a dedicated group. Here it is actually very easy to find them. Let me tell you, there are a lot. So I hope you enjoy the site- It's great- and have fun!

I also don't like pre-planning an rp, not extensively anyways. I don't mind discussing possibilities of things that might play out, but I love the freedom of 'let's see what happens' I also pretty much only do Fantasy genre.

Welcome to RPR! We have so many different types of players with varying styles I am sure you can find a few people you mesh well with! Hope you're having fun here so far! 
It's not often I see anyone older than say... twenty something joining up to RP, it's great to have you join! I've RP'd with a few older RPers before and each time my experience was different than my usual RPs- in a good way! Nice to have that age diversity, in my opinion. Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here. ^^
I'm also a big fan of throwing characters into a situation and seeing how things unfold. There's a pretty healthy population of both types here.
