The entire Realm is veiled in darkness and shadow.
About a few days or so back, the bright sun you once knew dissapeared from the sky. Now the lands you roamed are now cloaked in darkness, with only the stars and the now blue glowing moon, to occasionally help you through the pitch black darkness. Not only that, but a strange and devilish force has shown itself. Temples and monuments made of onyx black stone have arisen out of the ground, causing nightmarish creatures to wander out and attack people and unguarded villages. Strangely though, plants and flora continue to grow even without the light of the sun.
Magicians of all sorts are incredibly vulnerable to this force. Often in their sleep hearing whispers and visions trying to lure them to a monument. If they were to go near one of these buildings, they would hear quiet whispers offering power and knowledge if they go inside, and strangely the creatures that come out of these monuments do not attack them. Priests, Alchemists, and Druidic types however, are not affected by such a force, and might just be immune to it.
Though, the casters that do enter these monuments, come out with shadowy energy flowing around them, practically having become insane and aiding with the killing along with the creatures.
Almost all small villages and towns have been attacked or destroyed by the creatures and corrupted mages coming out of the monuments, except for the small encampments that still remain. You are part of a caravan of people heading towards Brunswick, a great walled city offering protection for all the travelers that arrive there. Your caravan was heading downwards from the cold north to the southern woodland to get to Brunswick, until the journey took a turn for the worse...
A large group of creatures ran out of the darkness and ambushed the caravan, accompanied by a corrupted pyromancer. Needless to say, things went to dung pretty quick. A few of you awaken after passing out from exhaustion, fear, or whatever have you, inside a small, wooden house. The main room being lit up by a roaring fire in the chimney, as well as lit candles on the table placed in the middle of the room. Some of the guardsmen who dragged you inside, lay against the wall, with claw and burn marks on their body and armor, seemingly dead. The door to the house is propped closed with wooden planks and rocks from outside.
Having only a rough idea of where you are, thanks to the crude map on the table, the things you carried with you on the journey, and some supplies from the caravan the guards dragged in with you, you and the surviving rest of your group now have to brave the endless darkness to get to Brunswick in one piece. Will you survive the way there? Or will you give up or die like countless others before you?

Magic is very common. Magic-tech, grand floating islands, forests that sing, magical creatures may be an every-day occurrence.

Welp, I'm interested. Making sure that playing this as a character sensitive to magic despite being a non-mage (e.g. able to feel it, and to distinguish between dark magic, blood magic, and broadly "other magic" ie most magic) would be OK and work with the premise.

Yup. I'm gonna be the GM. Probably gonna be playing as one o' my characters too.
Works for me. Due to Bialis' backstory there's some stuff I usually send as info to GM's but frankly I think it's unlikely to come up in an RP like this.
We just need one more person and then we can start.
