is that allowed? Like, say, I'm roleplaying as character A and B in the same roleplay thread, sometimes on the same reply post

or is it something that I should talk about with my rp partner(s)?

I'm not a mod, but I assume it is okay.

I agree with Dragoncat. I can't see why that'd be an issue especially if you were both characters in one post.

This doesn't break any site rules, however I think it'd be a good idea to have your RP partner's approval before you do this!
