Althalos watched silently from his unmarked Lamborghini Aventador interceptor as a group of racers took up positions at a stop light.
"Dispatch, this is Officer Fizen. I'm currently watching a street race about to take place between several cars, back up requested, over."
"This is dispatch, request acknowledged, we're sending more officers to your location immediately. You have permission to engage the targets, over."
"Thabk you dispatch, will engage, Officer Fizen out," Althalos finished and flip a switch, sirens flashing and blaring as he pulled out of the alley, engine screaming and took chase.

(And you guys can be either a cop coming in to help or a racer)

Aaron Mauston felt the adrenaline in his veins as the light switched from red to green. And then he was mashing down on the pedal, bringing his streetcar up to speed, surging ahead with the other racers. There was nothing like a street race to re-create that adrenaline rush that he seemed to be getting used to in his normal, professional racing life.

The other part, he had to admit, was the excitement of whether they would get caught or not. So when they'd made it barely six hundred feet, and he heard the siren and saw the flashing lights in his rearview mirror, Aaron both laughed and winced. He didn't slow down though, he couldn't afford to. Getting his license suspended wasn't something he could afford in his profession.

He was, however, a great driver--or so he told himself. So he allowed himself to drift back to the rear of the pack--deciding he'd "distract" the cop from the other racers. Of course, it probably didn't help either that his bright yellow, souped up two-door Mazda was the type that immediately drew attention to it... One day he would learn to avoid flashy colors.

The unmarked Aventador immediately caught up and Althalos slammed into the rear right panel of the Mazda, forcing it into a turn and then sped off towards the others, knowing he had slowed down the car, but hadn't disbaled it. He saw more flashing lights in his rear view as the back up arrived.

He'd expected the car to catch up, but not that fast. Nor to actually hit him! He spun and only by his quick wits did he manage to avoid losing too much speed or time.

"Dude! You're gonna dent my car to pieces!" Aaron mashed down on the pedal, revving up the engine and turning back to chase down the cop now ahead of him. Of course the flashing red and blue lights ahead and behind him should have been warning enough not to interfere, but well, this had just turned into demolition derby.

Aaron caught up to the unmarked cop's bumper, tailgating but prepared to swerve out of the way should he stomp on his brakes. Not the smartest thing to do, especially to a cop. With a long line of cop witnesses behind him.

Althalos smirked and slammed into the racer on his left, spinning it into the lane of the yellow Mazda. The sound of more sirens gradually got louder and four Dodge Challengers and a Viper joined the fray.

(Excellent--one of the few games I've actually played/seen.)

Aaron grinned in spite of the situation, though concern warred briefly as the driver inside the other racecar struggled to recover.

"Why do they always have to ruin our fun?" Aaron muttered. He realized now that he'd have to take matters into his hands. He really hated denting cars, but seeing that this cop had no respect for them, made his blood boil. Cop or no, they could have at least given them a chance to surrender. Or stop.

He mashed down on the pedal and bumped the rear corner of the police car.

The 2 ton Lamborghini got only a minor speed boost and the engine roared violently as Althalos shifted gears and pulled next to the Mazda, rolling down his window.
"You had the chance to pull over when you saw the sirens," Althalos called out with a shrug and rolle his window back up an sped off as three of the dodge Challengers formed a box around the racer, forcing him towards the high concrete wall.

Aaron would have made a smart aleck gesture but he was too busy steering and avoiding the ever encroaching concrete wall.

"Oh no you don't." He slammed on his brakes just enough to make the cop behind him do the same or hit him. And then as the other two that tried to box him in zipped past, he floored it again and maneuvered for the opening between the cop behind him and the two cops ahead of him.

The front heavy Challenger couldn't stop fast enough and rear ended the Mazda at high speed, causing it to flip over the top, the hood of the muscle car landing on the hood of the sports car, it's sirens giving one last wail before failing. One of the other cars did a 180 and drifted to a stop in front of the Mazda.
Meanwhile, Althalos had just disabled a Porsche and an old Mustang but with each hit he landed, he lost speed and soon the other racers were too far gone. He hit the e-brake, doing a 180 and stopped next to the Mazda.

Aaron groaned as he saw the damage done to his precious car. Well, felt it, more like. His neck burned with whiplash and his entire body felt like jelly now that the adrenaline had eased up. At least it looked like most of the other racers had gotten away.

When the police cruiser pulled up next to him, he knew the gig was up. Even if he could pull out of the mess, there was nowhere for him to go that wouldn't leave a trail. He raised his hands up briefly to indicate he was surrendering, though the scowl on his face showed he was clearly unhappy to do so.

Althalos quickly got out of his car and approached the Mazda, followed by the officer in the Viper, who was aiming a pistol at the driver. Althalos pulled the door open and pulled out a pair of candcuffs, shoving him against the hood of his Aventador and searched him.
"He's clean. Alright, in the car," he said, shoving him into the back seat of one of the dodge Challengers.

"Easy, man." Aaron muttered when the cop frisked him for weapons. "I'm a racer, not an arm's dealer. For that matter, what kind of penalty am I looking at?"

"We'll discuss things like that later. I'm gonna have a nice talk with you at the jail," he slammed the door shut and the Challenger took off in the direction of the police station just as a few ambulances arrived. Althalos got into his car and sped off after the challenger.

About an hour later, Althalos was sitting in an interpreting room with the racer, dangling the keys to his Mazda in front of him.
"You want these back, don't you?"

Aaron scowled as he leaned back in his chair and regarded the keys. "So what's the verdict, Mr. Officer? Did you run my name? Because you'll find out that I'm a professional racecar driver. And yes, I would love to have the keys back to my damaged Mazda. Besides which, don't you have any better methods to stop drivers than hitting them from behind? You could have at least shot the tires...though those aren't any cheaper to replace..."

"No, I havent done any such thing. And if you're a pro, why not keep the racing on the track, hmm? Anyways, I'm here to offer you a proposition. You, my good man, are about to become an undercover cop, more so than I, because you're already in the racing business. All I want for you to do is become our eyes and ears within the racing scene and let us know when big races are about to take place between or involving the bosses. We'll even fix up your car and you'll be getting paid for it as well."

Aaron frowned. "So you want me to do your dirty work for you? Find the races and tattle. You realize that they're going to get suspicious after the third consecutive find, right? And then they're going to limit who they tell about the races so they can weed out who it is. And even though I'm a pro racer, that doesn't get me any higher cred on the street."

He looked the officer over. "But if you're still insistent...not only am I going to need my car fixed up; I'll need a fall guy for later. And of course, it'll probably be assumed that I'll be racing on the streets...?" Really, he was surprised that the police would request his help. But he wasn't going to disappoint them, or miss his chance to "legally" street race. He almost smiled.

"No no no, you won't be going alone because let's be honest here. I'd love to get some sort of racing in, but I need someone such as yourself to help me get in. And you'll be perfectly safe from all cops. Your car will be tagged so that they know it's you and you'll get everything you just requested, plus witness protection if it comes to that. Whaddaya say?"

"Wi-witness protection? What kind of street racers are you looking for?" He was a racer, not a drug dealer. But grudgingly he admitted that the cop had a point. He looked at the officer's name badge at last and then sighed.

"Well, officer Fizen, I'll do my best. You work on cars any? How'd you get that nice piece of Lamborghini you chased us down with? Because you'll need another one; I can guarantee you, those racers at the top can spot an undercover car in two seconds."

"Hey you never know what some of them might be involved in, and I sai if it's necessary, which I hope it won't be," Althalos waited a moment before answering the next question. "I have a separate car for that," he said with a shrug. "I'd rather not be using a two ton Aventador if I'll be racing as well. I happen to be a collector of exotic cars and the like, so I have an SLS AMG for the town and I'm sure it can be used for this too."

The rebel that made up 90% of Aaron's attitude subsided, and a note of awe nearly entered his voice. Though he'd deny it if someone pointed it out.

"Exotic cars, huh? I never would have pegged you for that particular hobby." Cops, after all, didn't have hobbies beyond tracking down crime. Then again, if his car collecting meant the guy could track down crime lords...that was the same difference wasn't it?

"Alright, alright. You got yourself a deal. I'd rather not use the yellow mazda though. Words gotten out already--probably--that mine's been nearly totaled. So if you're keen on hunting down these racers, I'd like to borrow one of your cars. It'll make our story more solid in the long run when they ask how we know each other. Unless you're planning to stay as far from me as possible...?"
