An era of fierce fighting, power struggles, and general disorder. Underlying all of this is the code of a samurai, or bushido. Though no daimyo or shogun seems to be aware of it, people are beginning to catch onto a particularly nasty plot.
The assassination of the Emperor.
Why would the daimyos and shoguns wish to slay their leader, when their powers originate from him? Who could be the original conspirator of this heinous plot? What are these suspicious otherworldly brings terrorizing the people? And where can Japan find people in its time of need?

Magic is rare. Some of the players might have it. There may be sages or other magical figures that could be sought out for tutelage.
