Ai smiles and nods, laying down on the hay as she sees Kori drifting off to sleep. "That sounds like a good idea. We can talk further while we are on the road. Good night, young one." She spends a few minutes staring at the ceiling, thinking about how many other people have been terrorized by ninja and the daunting task of restoring the faith of the common people in the ninja.
It was four o'clock in the morning when the kunoichi woke up. She stood up quietly and walked out of the barn, careful not to wake up her young trainee. Ai heads out of town to a nearby stream, taking off her kimono to wash it. The rest of her body was wrapped to prevent any peepers from seeing her. The medicine woman takes some soap and wades into the clear water of the stream, proceeding to gently scrub the elegant piece of clothing. As she washed, Ai hummed a folk song that her mother would sing to her while she cooked. It was times like these that kept the kunoichi calm and serene despite the chaos, wickedness, and agony that surrounded her and infected her life.

She would feel something right then. It was a fleeting feeling, but to one as sensitive as Ai, it would be like the near silent sound of a presence that is all the same clear only to the most keenly aware. It was the familiar feeling of blood and fire in the will, but it was faint, as a predator who only momentarily reveals himself when moving from one hiding place to the next. Yet as quickly as it came, it was gone. She was not the target, it seemed, but whoever was was in grave danger.
He had to be ninja, however, for he was gone like a shadow.

As she does laundry, Ai hears the tranquility of the surrounding forest interrupted slightly. She freezes and reaches for her ninjatō, the one that she held by her armpit; the other was on the river bank, but she always kept one for self defense. Quickly, she drew the blade and turned to face the source of the disturbance, the steel ringing in a gentle yet threatening manner. The kuniochi couldn't feel the presence there anymore, all she could hear was the serenity of nature once more. Her eyes narrow as she thinks about what--or who--could have caused this. Whoever he or she or it was, the level of stealth concerned Ai. The medicine woman hurriedly finishes bathing and washing her kimono, redressing and rearming before hurrying back to the barn about 6 o'clock. "Kori, wake up," she says to her sleeping pupil.
The girl stirred awake and looked up at her new sensei. "What's going on?" she asked. "Is it already morning?"
She looked through the wood paneling in the barn, then wrapped herself properly with her shirt and tightened her belt. "Right. I'm ready. Where to now?"
