Yeah me and a friend from tumblr talked about how weird it is that every omegaverse fics we have found focused on??? cis gays being in ~heat~
so we ended up talking about the omegaverse society if it was a real functioning society, but mostly? Gender stuff.
Let's start with stereotype: Alpha is brawn, Beta is brain, Omega is bimbo
and this one is how ABO Genetics work based on my friend's knowledge
ABO society focuses more on the ABO part of their gender and male/female part second, but generally this is a society that 'worships' being able to impregnate someone the same way some society in the real world worships masculinity over feminity.
Omega Males and Alpha Females are the only two out of the six with both sets of equipment but with it reversed, the females take on a more masculine role and rarely get pregnant while omega males are more feminine and are often the ones GETTING pregnant and you have those ~expectations~
Beta/Beta relationships might be acceptable if it's het/can produce kids but you'll constantly have people asking "so which one of you is the alpha"
Beta/Omega relationships are a gray area, again kinda like Beta/Beta where if it can produce kids, then people will be like "oh okay that's weird but whatever" (bc if there's no Alpha what's the point) so gay Beta/Omega and gay Beta/Beta are in that weird gray area. Alpha Females can produce kids with anyone except an Alpha Male so there's no issue there BUT if an Alpha Male bonds to a Beta Male (the only person he wouldn't be able to have kids with) it actually doesn't cause a scandal bc of double standards! yay! the excuse is "well he can't control who he bonds with! it's true love!"
Meanwhile Betas and Omegas can also bond but that's ignored cause it doesn't matter unless it's an ALPHA who's bonded to you.
There are people who try to fight for Alpha/Alpha and Omega/Omega relationships but only pairs that can produce children and they throw the others under the bus. like how some asexuality posts throw aromantics under the bus with "we can feel love too!!" except it's "we can have kids too!!"
Being in heat just means you're fertile so no one would HAVE to have sex just like you can still have sex outside of heat so we can throw that stupid thing about how omegas and alphas are totally incapacitated if they cant get it on.
And okay, I actually like the ideas that Betas aren't just seen as "other" they're a valid gender/category in and of themselves, which means we wouldn't have Alphas and Omegas pairing up and leaving the Betas all to themselves. Betas don't pair up with each other even if they're m/f because kinda like we discussed before, if there's no Alpha then is it really even sex? Beta/Omega pairs will get some raised eyebrows but ultimately that's still accepted because Omegas are super fertile so they'll compensate for whatever the beta "lacks"
So it's IMPERATIVE that you date outside your ABO category. This is societal law. The M/F bit is where it gets a bit more tricky-- AM/BM can't produce kids so that's seen as a waste, why don't you get a nice beta girl to have kids with instead of fooling around with a man?? similarly, BF/OF aren't even seen as real relationships because wth you need to have an alpha or a beta male? how else are you going to get pregnant? what are you doing? but they have an easier time flying under the radar bc no one BELIEVES they're even in relationships
I hope this worldbuilding gets popular, honestly
