I've noticed lately that there seems to be a significant lack of places that are friendly for modern characters to exist. There IS TBC/Amberwood City (in Furcadia), but it seems like not a lot of people RP there. TGT is popular, but it's a low technology dream, and the time setting isn't exactly modern. The staff and patrons don't exactly go out of their way to ostracize modern characters (and I'm not trying to imply that they do at all, especially not the staff who seem to be very tolerant of modern characters )
Uhhh... I guess the point I'm trying to get to is, do you have a modern character or characters? Do you wish there was somewhere for them to be RP'd in peace? What's your take on modern characters? Like 'em, dislike 'em?
I am not very good at starting discussions, but the point here is to possibly try to stimulate RP among more modern characters, and get a feel for what people think about them. What with most of the only other modern characters in TGT being (mostly) poorly played werewolves*, it's a bit of a crap chute to find diverse RP!
*disclaimer: I don't think all the werewolf characters are poorly played, and I am not using any names. A certain player with a werewolf character put up a list of all the weres in TGT... there is around 140 of them. There is pretty much a plague of werewolves

I have a lot of modern characters myself; Sadly two of which are werewolves but I swear I play them well! The old board I used to role play on was with almost all of modern characters. But it... uh... died. I guess. I do feel like modern characters are not abundant and you'd probably be able to play them on here

Wait, what? 140? They must have been veeeeery busy biting one another!
Oh gods. Mental images
We need some vampires to even the score

I have no problem with werewolf characters, or any character for that matter, as long as it's well played. Some people just can't play certain characters well, or they don't do the research to play them well
I might peek through the RP forums and see what I can jump into. It'd be neat to play Freya in a separate continuity from Furc.
Amongst my 30/40-something characters there is a single vampire. He's so stereotyped it's not even funny, and I love him so. No werewolves, though. Dun like them, dunno why.
That said, I have many modern characters (none of them in RPR, I dun use them that much), and a few that can pretty much work in any time or setting, with a few tweaks. So yes, I have modern characters. Yes, I wish there was a place to play them, and yes, I like them, I think everyone should have a few, it adds much variety and makes a roleplayer more versatile.

Like f0x said below this, the mental image a flurry of werewolves biting anything they can, like a plague of locusts through a corn field

Yoooou could also start a thread that I would probably join like... immediately upon posting

My problem is pretty much the opposite... I'm not entirely comfortable playing characters that aren't modern, but that is something I'd like to work on as well.

Ohmigosh, that is very true! *starts thinking about ideas for plot*
I am glad we have reached this junction
As am I.
Now, how to post as a character I don't have here. Hmm.
...unless I use the mutant or the male diva.

From what I have on here I have a choice between two werewolves or a half-demon Fox-thing O_o ...If I don't want to add anyone else...
Ooh..this reminds me..I do have a modern character, though I've never thought of using her for RP until now..a punk freak that babysits. eh heh.
I've thought the same thing. I have certainly noticed the modern characters and at TGT we do try to gently enforce the time frame, modern characters are okay as long as they keep the time frame out of the public (example, I polish my glock and listen to my iPod, all the while sitting in the major areas of TGT, bar, mainhall, so on.)
There certainly should be a decent dream for modern characters to go to, for a while and the brief life of TBC I even had one - it is a nice change from fantasy/medieval time frame. I've ventured into Amberwood but I don't see many people active or I am going to all the wrong places. That, or the one time I venture in people were OOCing in one of the IC areas (but maybe it has a more relaxed policy- I'm not sure.) Why not group together a bunch of modern characters and actively pursue RPing in a modern dream? Or start one up if the ones available aren't up to par. There were briefly guilds or groups, SELCo, and another one that I can't remember, that have enough people that if they made the decision to move to a modern dream I'm sure it'd attract other modern characters and generate RP.
I like modern characters, especially when they stick to the time line - trust me, in can be pretty disruptive when someone starts waving their robotic arm around. I even have a character who is able to fit into a fantasy and a modern time frame if given the chance for the latter.
And as for the werewolves? They are preferable compared to nazis and ravers and glitter whores, thank you.

... Ravers and glitter whores? I came back from hiatus right as the Nazi trend was coming to an end, thank goodness
But seriously, ravers? I've been to raves. Why the hell anyone would want to RP something that awful and smelly and annoying is beyond me
... or maybe the raves where I come from are just different from everywhere else bah hahaha
But I do try to follow the low/no technology rule in TGT, and try to avoid posting in the main areas to avoid disrupting others with how terribly modern I am

Lol, there are plenty of vampires.
I am going to have to check out other RP threads to get an idea of how to set up RP in the forums... I am a forum RP virgin. Teehee.

Terribly modern. Newfangled, even.
