Streets silent, the moon cast its pale glare over the buildings, their shadows stretching almost eerily across the ground. The serene silence was broken by a quiet shuffling, then unsteady footsteps as a figure limped oddly down the walkway, glasses glinting.
He'd been ambling along the streets, crossbow propped against his shoulder as he walked confidently to nowhere in particular. The crunch of his boots against cobblestone was a reassuring sound after his earlier scuffle with a vampire.
A silver pendant gleamed around his neck, the only really reflective surface that he wore, other than his greying hair. Otherwise his grey trench coat seemed to cloak him in shadow.
He paused at hearing an odd sound. Was someone coming? Or was it a failed attempt at hiding? He brought the crossbow up in front of him and began to search the shadows.

Oblivious to the approaching stranger, he hummed to himself cheerfully, twirling his keyring on his finger as he wandered about, his crooked dragon-like tail swaying.
Sterling stopped and watched the oncoming person. He lowered the crossbow a little so he didn't look too intent to shoot, and then continued forward.
"Hey!" he called towards the stranger. "You seen anything strange around here?" He was too far really to make out the exact shade of the man's skin tone, or his eye color, but there was a bit of not-quite-rightness that niggled at him.

Blinking, he looked up to him, tilting his head.
"..Anything strange? Oh, no, nothing at all..~" He flashed a toothy grin.

He forced his hands not to clench the crossbow. There was definitely something not right about this guy.
"Who are you? Where are you heading?" Sterling asked, pausing in his stride long enough to get his bearings.

"I vas heading to work, I am a doctah', you know..~" He smiled innocently again, pocketing his keys. "Is there something wrong..?"
Sterling shook his head. "No. Nothing is wrong. But if you're heading for the hospital, I recommend taking the well-traveled roads. Keeping to brighter spots. The usual, common sense method."
As he spoke, he kept thinking he saw something sweeping out behind the man he was talking to. "Is that a tail?"

He looked over his shoulder to it, and back to the man. "Oh, yes it is, I am a dragon, after all..~" He chimed happily. His tail had dark, blackened scales, several spots seemed to be rotted away, the bone exposed.
Sterling brought the crossbow up to point at Ociede's chest. His eyes were narrowed and his mouth grim. He looked ready to shoot. "What kind of dragon?" Doctor or not, that didn't mean anything. In fact, working at a hospital would be the perfect cover for a dragon to eat someone.
Flinching, he stepped back, feathered ears flattening. "..Undead dragon..why do you ask..?" He bit his lip, feeling rather uncomfortable with having a crossbow staring him down.
Yeah, that wasn't helping matters. An undead dragon working with humans? Not likely. Sterling growled under his breath. "What kind of doctor are you?"
The crossbow never wavered. But he didn't pull the trigger either. He was still giving the dragon doctor a chance, even if it didn't seem like it.

"I..I'm a surgeon..listen..I really don't like where this is going.." He adjusted his glasses, backing away a little.
Sterling could see the man, no, dragon, was panicking. Good. It wasn't going to harm him then. At least, as far as he could tell. He lowered the crossbow a little, still ready to bring it up if he needed to.
"I've killed more than my share of vampires tonight," Sterling said. "I'd rather prefer it if I didn't have to worry about you as-"
A flicker of shadow darted at the edge of his peripheral vision, distracting him into turning and following it with his eyes. Another vampire? He sincerely hoped not.

Eyes narrowing, he huffed, following his gaze.
"I surely won't kill you..but whatever that was, might..."

Sterling considered his chances and then reluctantly chose the one least likely to get him killed. "I suppose both of us heading to the hospital might not be a bad idea."
He'd keep his eyes open for the shadow, however. Just in case it decided to follow them.
