This looks like it could be really fun. I don't think Yrsa would fit well, but would you accept a magic user from a more primitive culture? Or are all the races in this world fairly civilized?

Yup, the setting encourages diversity, if anything. While the majority are of the civilized persuasion, there was once a Student who enrolled after growing up with a tribe! I'll throw a PM your way shortly.
