"You shades have astounding endurance...I've trained for years, but I don't think I've ever been able to go this long..." He says in between deep breaths.

“We train,” they replied simultaneously, the Vioz shrugging, and Moon smiling at the knight.

"I'm amazed. You shades are fantastic." Kyoya smiled back at his beloved shade, his training seemed pathetic compared to theirs.

Laughing, she held out a water bottle for him.
“But it takes years to learn to pronounce, spell, and translate Ogojohat, learn the rules for the language by heart, and understand that a name won’t fall under any rules at all, making it unique from anyone else’s. Remember, that’s just the first step in our training.”

"Meanwhile, for a typical knight, we just have to learn how to swing a sword or two." He said, laughing in response, accepting the bottle with a smiling, "If we get that part down, it eventually becomes second nature."

“After that’s done, we start learning about all the affinities available, which is upwards of 50 including combinations of multiple masteries. Then we identify what our affinity is, and so on,” Blake added.

“We could go on like this all day,” the witch chuckled, “but we don’t want to have your brain explode from information ovderload.”

"It's really interesting. My father was pretty interested in the shade lore, but he never got a chance to do any research. But, I get to learn from them first hand." Kyoya's eyes sparkled, the information interested him greatly.

“Did you want us to keep explaining?” Drop asked, understanding the urge to learn more. It’d also give her a chance to listen to Blake go into depth over things she didn’t know either.

"Yeah! My father would love to learn more as well...but, he's not here, so I'll just relay it back to him!" Kyoya responded excitedly.

“What would you like to know first?” the Vioz asked them.

“You can ask first,” she said to Kyoya. “I already know a lot.”

"What are these affinities you spoke of? Are they just elements shades can use or are they personalities?" He asked him.

“An affinity is a shade’s easiest genre or area of magic that they can learn naturally, and is usually tied to the first spells a witch casts as a child. Most find that they can expand their horizons with training, patience, and practice over time, but hardly any will develop the same level of skill in more than one affinity.
“Affinities aren’t personalities, but they have a major influence in behavior and mood swings. As a witch trains, they find that the worst quality traits their affinity has manifests itself. This could mean a witch seasonally attuned to summer would usually be bold and persistent could grow harsh and spiteful when triggered. It's like they have a different person that comes out, and they can't control what they do, but there is a way they can overcome said person.”

Now Moon was interested. Her mother hadn't had time to explain this to her before she died.

"So, I assume that means Moon here has an Ice affinity? I've never seen her use anything besides ice so far. So far, she's been really sweet and kind, but during fight against the Mad King she was terrifying. Sort of like winter, it's a beautiful, but deadly season." Kyoya added, seemingly understanding what he's saying.

"So she's a seasonal centered in winter," Blake recapped. "Each witches' trigger varies, though, so no one can say much on that. And having those opposite personas fits in with her affinity since the time of year is paradoxical."

"The Mad King had said a few offensive things about her people and her grandparents, so I assume those are her triggers." Kyoya said.

"Anger and aggression," he agreed.

"You said a witch can overcome her personality," the teen said. "How?"

Kyoya stayed silent, curious for an answer regarding that as well.

"..Explaining the answer is hard to do. It's a process we all find on our own. I know that sounds like a cheesy fortune cookie or something, but it's true."

"Can't you give me a hint?" she insisted.

"I'm sorry, but shades are forbidden from telling witches anything about it. Those who are told aren't considered real shades anymore as the struggle makes experiences to empower us all, but those who can't get past it usually succumb to the dark magics. The other sides can be very persuading and break strong wills if you have weak self-esteem. We often refer it as the persona taking complete control."

"Well, whatever it takes, we'll do what we can to see that you overcome your personality, Moon." Kyoya said, smiling at Moon. "I suppose we both have a lot of looking inside ourselves to do from here on out."
